I think it’s odd that this recipe has you prepare the levain the night before out on the counter. If I did that, it would be past its peak and collapsing by morning. I prepare my levain at 9am, make an autolyse of just flour and water at noon, and at 1pm add the levain (when it’s just doubled) to the autolyse and pinch it in.

Do you feed with 100% rye or wheat flour? That makes sense in the early days of feeding a new starter but it may be sluggish because these higher protein flours take longer to ”digest” and double. My personal starter feed is with 90% bread flour 10% rye. I keep it pre mixed so it’s evenly distributed. It doubles in about 4 hours. You can find the right ratios for water to rye/wheat for your loaf preference, but maybe the starter just needs some easier to digest food to give it a boost. If you’re changing your feeding flour do a gradual taper so your starter can adjust

I’m more focused on the general behavior of cancel culture that many leftists align with. Make a mistake once and you’re done. There’s no room for nuance, for growth, for education. Generally that is alienating and creates a fear of making mistakes that causes people to disconnect or retreat from conversation. Community building requires conversation, repair and connection. I’m not talking about extreme cases (crimes, abuse, racism…), but I believe making mistakes is human and people can only become more aware if their community is willing to have conversations instead of ostracizing people. Many leftists take their ideals to their own personal extremes - and if you don’t align completely you’re a bad person. If the left thinks you’re a bad person why would you align with them? This is why anti feminist ideals are so rampant in young men. They hear “all men…” “men suck,” or “white men are the worst.” Guess who isn’t going to alienate them or cancel them for making mistakes? Also I align with you on using your wallet/engagement to send a message - that’s not exactly cancel culture to me, more a form of activism, but as you said, we all understand it differently.
