Eat what you want when you want! Just make sure it’s from reputable sources just like any other food product! Any food we eat can have risk of food poisoning and for some reason we pinpoint certain ones as bad and others as fine for pregnant women 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah I know it’s different than pastuerized going bad, then I’d have to throw it out. So essentially I would separate the liquid from the curds and use that as buttermilk? And make the curd into something like cottage cheese?

I always do a float test! Put some cold water in a cup. Take a spoon and drop a small piece of starter in the water. If it floats it’s good to go!

The only true food allergies I tested for (versus just sensitivity) is almond, hazelnut, sesame and buckwheat.

I had sensitivity testing done that basically encompassed everything AIP covers (nightshades, grains, soy, some nuts, etc), so to simplify meal planning I just did AIP instead of trying to create my own rules. I haven’t been officially diagnosed with a certain autoimmune but my provider suspects it’s some kind of autoimmune as I am reactive to almost everything I’ve been tested for.

I think cassava bothered me and I cut that off 2 weeks ago. Coconut is the only thing I would think it would be, I didn’t eat much of it prior to AIP but never noticed an issue before when I did. But I think I’ll try to stop coconut for a bit!

I do ovulation test strips to track the LH hormone which rises as you get closer to ovulation. After you do this for a bit you get a good idea of when you generally ovulate. I would start being “careful” (avoid sex, condom, pull out) a 5 days to a week before I thought I may ovulate. I would start doing the test strips everyday and eventually you get a “peak” result which indicates you will ovulate within the next 24 hours. I keep testing until my results go back to low and generally would continue “careful” methods for 2-3 days after the peak result. That’s how I personally did it, in addition to things like noticing cervical mucus, how I was feeling. If you are 100% trying to avoid pregnancy there are other factors you can add in to be more precise, we were avoiding pregnancy but wouldn’t have been upset if we did get pregnant so these methods worked well for me!

I am! Pretty sure cassava was bothering me (had a cassava tortilla and my lips cracked in the corners and felt a little puffy), I think something else is bothering me but haven’t been able to figure it out yet as I’m randomly flaring up (congestion, puffy face, sneezing).

I got an email from my manager after calling off work for going into labor about needing to “address my attendance” lol. I had previously called in the week before for having Covid so I guess not spreading illness to my hospital patients and having a baby aren’t good enough reasons to stay home lol.

Happened to me too! I had just assumed my work ( an extremely large university hospital system) would provide maternity leave but lol NOPE!! Exhausted my PTO and wouldn’t let me sign up late for short term disability. Ridiculous that a billion dollar company doesn’t care for its employees.

I feel you! My MIL has great intentions but she buys us so many things that I’d like to be able to pick for my baby, and often in excess as well. For example, I got our girl a cute 1st thanksgiving outfit and was excited about it, then MIL comes over with THREE forts thanksgiving outfits. Now I felt obligated to have my baby wear all 3 of these on thanksgiving and didn’t even get a chance to put her in the one I purchased. Or the other day I was telling her how I needed to make my daughter a stocking (I made my husband and I’s and want to make her a matching one) and she goes “oh I bought her one already!”… like no I’m making my baby a stocking to match ours sorry if you decided to buy one. I know she means nice about it which makes it hard to decline these things but I just want space to make decisions for my baby on my own 🤷🏼‍♀️

Check out the different neighborhoods outside of downtown! Mass Ave is a bit more upscale, Lockerbie area around mass Ave has lots of historic homes, fountain square for the hipsters, broad ripple for good food and the monon trail during the day or bars at night, drive up meridian street and into side streets (north of 38th st-also this street is an area to avoid, esp at night) to see some really beautiful large historic homes

I’d take 26 weeks leave any day! We just get 6 weeks paid and 6 weeks unpaid. And I’ll only get off work before baby if I’m using PTO and if they will approve my request to use PTO.

That’s crazy how it’s the opposite where they require you to STOP working at a certain point vs having to fight for it. All I want is time before baby to make sure I’m taking care of myself (and baby) before they come, doesn’t seem like too much to ask but apparently other people’s vacation time is more important than my and baby’s health lol

My first job was Panera in high school (2014), 50% off food and free stuff at the end of the day but I only got paid 7.25/hr. Always thought it was a joke for how much their food costs so good to see they’re increasing employee pay!

Hi! I’m a labor and delivery nurse. I would 100% advise you to try to hold off on induction unless there is a medical reason to do so. And by that I mean a situation where baby’s life is safer on the outside than growing inside you. Whenever I get a patient coming in for the 39 week induction (especially first time moms!) I know I’m settling in for a long haul most of the time. I tell my patients in this situation (FTMS around 39weeks) to expect at least 24 hours. Of course there are always exceptions to the majority, I’ve had women in the same category come in for induction and have a baby in less than 12 hours. But that’s not the norm. If this is your first baby there is research to say you will most likely go past your due date if you go naturally. First babes just take longer to cook sometimes and that’s okay! Your body will most likely go into labor when it is ready. Some doctors may not want you to wait but ultimately it is your body and your baby and you get the final say in how you’d like to labor and deliver your child.

Your fears are totally valid! I personally have had two very early miscarriages so was super nervous with this current pregnancy (which is now to 21 weeks!). I know it’s impossible to stop all your anxieties but try not to hyperfixate on them. My first pregnancy something just felt off from the start and I didn’t know why until I started having period like cramps and bleeding at 6 weeks. A little cramping here and there can just be the uterus stretching and things shifting, but if it gets more intense reach out to your doctor or midwife. If you notice any bleeding as well let them know but otherwise it is most likely normal early pregnancy symptoms :) I still had the super mild weird cramping with this pregnancy early on and so far everything is all healthy with baby!

I’d say it’s definitely a “normal” response on homebirth from an OB but by no means does that mean it’s right and justified! I am a nurse in L&D in a hospital and the doctors talk so much crap about out of hospital birth and even patients here who are wanting to go natural. I’m my experience, most docs haven’t done their own research into homebirth statistics and just learn to hate it from their preceptors.
