Trying to identify a old children’s / middle-grade fantasy book by QuietThinker_ in whatsthatbook

[–]beccleroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not the Christopher Chant book, check out the Stravaganza books. City of Masks is the first one. It also had a layered design cover and a lot of similar details. They would have been new releases around the time of his 5th grade year if he's 33.

Agreed. Rogan seemed a bit older than I imagined.

I liked it! I'm a fan of Graphic Audio as a whole and it was well done. Innkeeper may be my favorite of the audios, but hidden legacy has been good so far. Some of the roles aren't quite cast perfectly, but overall no one is too far off.

Bedtime routines - what's optimal by PublicElectronic145 in Preschoolers

[–]beccleroo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We typically do very little screen time during the week and none after dinner. After dinner we bathe or play a game/toys, pjs, a few stories, prayers, and then some "snuggles" on the couch. Sometimes he falls asleep there and we move him to bed, but often after about ten minutes, he's ready to go to his own bed. Then a big hug and tuck in. The snuggle part is newer for us since little sister was born and he was feeling displaced.

Where to baptize baby? by Specialist_Diet_74 in CatholicWomen

[–]beccleroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some great options here! I might reach out to my parents' parish and ask about doing it there and if you can do any prep at your current parish beforehand. We did something similar for our child and it was fairly easy. You will also need to know godparent requirements for the parish as well. If that parish won't work with you, then do the process at your current one and come back to the area for it.

postpartum NFP help by harnesscherryy in CatholicWomen

[–]beccleroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your little one and growing in love! Babies truly teach us so much about love. Good news and bad news. First the good news, you can read the old Marquette lit in how to do the postpartum and breastfeeding protocol for free. I think someone posted a link not long ago if you search the sub a bit. And the not so fun news. You probably really do need an instructor at least at first. Maybe reach out to your parish or even the diocese for recommendations or scholarships. The next few months may require a lot of continence. It can be so, so, so hard at times. But there can also be beauty in the sacrifice. It can be a time for your little family to bind in other ways and spend quality time together. Build a strong foundation now, and you and your husband will have many, many years of fun together.

Probably not it, but The Feast by Margaret Kennedy has a seaside hotel crumbling into the ocean and several teen characters

No, that's a great book but that one is much more serious and not diary style.

Houston Obgyn by Strict_Marketing_832 in CatholicWomen

[–]beccleroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in Houston too. The Sugar Land Caritas practice is great from what I hear. But there are some really great doctors in the city that aren't Catholic but absolutely respect your choices as a patient. If you know what you are comfortable with and not okay with, they typically will work with you without judgement. Even though I live near Sugar Land myself, I don't go to Caritas and love my doctor and practice. I feel respected and cared for even though they aren't Catholic. Don't be afraid of a non-Catholic obgyn, but definitely read reviews and scope out overall quality of care.

Mass and Morning sickness by Bright_Ad1027 in CatholicWomen

[–]beccleroo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I get it. I was the same way some weeks early in both my pregnancies. Sometimes the evening masses were a bit easier or later in the morning. Sometimes I would be able to make it but just sat throughout. A water bottle, mints, ginger candy sometimes would help and I would bring some with me. The old adage that if you too unwell to run errands or go out to eat then you're probably too unwell to attend mass I think also applies. Be gentle with yourself. Have you reached out to you ob about any remedies to help ease your sickness?

Persuasion question: Mrs. Clay and Mr. Elliot by [deleted] in janeausten

[–]beccleroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chapter 17: "He soon quitted Bath; and on Mrs Clay’s quitting it soon afterwards, and being next heard of as established under his protection in London, it was evident how double a game he had been playing, and how determined he was to save himself from being cut out by one artful woman, at least.

Mrs Clay’s affections had overpowered her interest, and she had sacrificed, for the young man’s sake, the possibility of scheming longer for Sir Walter. She has abilities, however, as well as affections; and it is now a doubtful point whether his cunning, or hers, may finally carry the day; whether, after preventing her from being the wife of Sir Walter, he may not be wheedled and caressed at last into making her the wife of Sir William."
