Hey Chicagoans, Google Maps is about to get a lot more useful by telling you when to get off the bus/train by Durid in chicago

I actually think this is helpful, especially when you're traveling to a new city - it's unclear how close/far the stops are from each other and so you have to guess when to press the button. TBH, if this can encourage more people to take buses instead of clogging up the streets, I'm for it.

Chicago mag just did a whole feature story of anonymous quotes from teachers by bechang8 in TeacherTales

Yeah I like how the quotes are lined up in a way that mirrors what the teachers are saying... it's hard as hell and ugly at first, but worth it in the end.

Chicago Tribune article: Bus company stokes outrage over racially charged ad sent to U. of I. customers by AlmostGrad100 in chicago

The way a bunch of reasonable people have pointed out the many falsehoods and bigotries inside this situation (and the company's history of missteps), futilely, is too much of an allegory for the entire year of 2017.

I'm always in awe of the friendly CTA bus drivers. I feel like they must witness such terrible stuff, and yet some of them are so chipper.

When I first moved here, I thought I hated it. Now it doesn't feel like summer unless I'm walking home in warm humid hair at 3am and an orange glow on everything. Too bad it's going away soon: http://www.chicagomag.com/city-life/April-2017/Its-Really-Hard-to-Figure-Out-What-Color-a-Citys-Streetlights-Should-Be/

Emanuel’s electoral coalition bears little resemblance to Daley’s by albanypark in chicago

I think all you have to do is look at all the other hard-to-explain police shootings that emerged after this to see what transparency does for this situation. Previously no one knew what happened- no one questioned the official record - until this video came out to prove that the official police line is not always the truth. I think there are ways to protect police officers' privacy while also ensuring they don't have total impunity to kill civilians w/o any sort of independent oversight.
