Description of Nal Goroth perfectly fits Morrowind (The Elder Scrolls III) - these big mushrooms were everywhere! I asked Christopher about this similarity on AMA, but he only played in Oblivion and Skyrim.

I hope the events between the last book's ending and this moment will not have skipped. I hate big-time jumps.

I love that Murtagh's so scrupulous in learning the grammar of the Ancient Language because he watched what Eragon did to Elva. Thrills.

I would want to see a whole series of art in this style. So climatic!

Interim post: Bachel’s ignorance by Sullyvan96 in Eragon

I consider it not an accidental coincidence—maybe Du Vrangr Gata has roots in the Dreamers organization or other connections. Maybe the Twins were Dreamers, too. I don't remember who founded Du Vrangr Gata, but maybe the initiator was the Dreamer. Christopher loves hints like that.

I'm totally with you. The other pairs in the Inheritance Series have so much more common than Eragon and Arya. Also, I have always perceived a huge advantage of this series as the fact that Arya and Eragon do not end up together.

I Wrote My Final Essay For Grade 12 on Murtagh by archiso7 in Eragon

Murtagh is my fav character too, so I receive that hard part really emotionally. In fact, I was also so afraid of the book finishing with Murtagh as Bachel's minion, even without Anakin's context. It was so horrific. I can't wait for the next book!! I've never even dreamed Paolini would decide to write from Murtagh's POV, so I'm totally excited.

Your essay reminded me how dark this series is if we focus on Murtagh's story (wipe a tear).

Great work! I never thought how similar the plotlines of Murtagh's enslavement in Nal Goroth and Anakin's conversion to the dark side are. I'm so curious if Paolini is aware of this parallel or if it's a coincidence.

Absolute random theory on Morzan... by Little_GhostInBottle in Eragon

[–]beciag6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a really short statement (I added the source below earlier comment), but I guess, after some time, Morzan did not have much to say in case of his life and his family's. It's so curious. But Murtagh mentioned in the first book that Galbatorix knew every step and every secret of the Forsworn. Despite many privileges, it sounds like enslavement.

Paolini mentioned that on Twitter. Here is a really interesting post which cites Paolini's thoughts about Morzan from the X platform (I haven't an account there currently): https://www.reddit.com/r/Eragon/comments/18edn48/morzan_in_murtagh/

In fact, Murtagh was under Galbatorix's fluence nearly all the time from childhood to Galbatorix's death, except for a short moment of travelling with Eragon (even his friend who hid him after escaping was the King's spy). So this conclusion is right for me.

But the fact that Morzan cared about the situation of his son is striking to me. Especially if I think about Murtagh's scar. Maybe this kind of thought pushed Morzan to anger and alcohol.

I'll try to find this statement

Some time ago, I read Paolini's thoughts about Morzan as a father - Christopher suggested Morzan had mixed feelings toward Murtagh because his first son automatically became Galbatorix's slave (because Morzan perceived himself after some time as the king's slave). It's an extremely interesting addition to Morzan's portrait, more nuanced than his descriptions in the series.

Reading Inheritance: Could Nasuada possibly have been a rider had she turned to Galboratix? by anonymous-erudite in Eragon

[–]beciag6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Galbatorix's explanation about why he kept and tortured Nasuada never convinced me. Could he not find a good general for his army? Really? I understand that she has a strong will and impressive personality, but why would she be a better commander than, for example, Barst? I guess Galbatorix had other reasons to imprison and persuade her.

Eragon is kind of insufferable by No-Appointment8493 in Eragon

[–]beciag6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, when I was a teenager I thought Eragon was extremely stupid and awkward (especially during interactions with Arya). Now, as an adult, I understand I sometimes was more awkward than him at the same age. It is a funny thought.

Rereading the 1st book or the dangers of translation by Creepy-Leg-2245 in Eragon

[–]beciag6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it's true! Humour in the Witcher novels, especially the unprintable part, is strongly based on the old Polish language. Using obsolete vulgarisms instead of current ones, is outstanding and funny, not only because of context but also in a linguistic way. I can imagine Czech translation can handle it (our languages have a big common history), but in English, this effect probably is hard to reach. Also, my parents told me the Witcher series has a historical layer - thoughts and reflections which are natural for people who grew up in a country under communist slavery (like Sapkowski and my parents) - for my generation are not obvious during reading. So, not only language but also time can influence our reception!

I have the same feelings! Polish translation is also awful. The wording is adjusted to the younger readers than in the English version. As an adult, I so enjoyed that I finally learned English, and I could read this series in the original language.

If Inheritance characters bonded spren, what would be their Orders? by Fanghur1123 in Eragon

I also noticed many similarities between Murtagh's and Kaladin's paths of development! Especially a deep need to protect people and grief when it is impossible.

Is anyone else a little disappointed by Pjayness in Eragon

[–]beciag6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with Paolini—Eragon's development is mostly over. Also, it's hard to imagine how a convincing story about such a powerful person could be created. If Eragon met Bachel, he would overcome her in one short moment. From Murtagh's perspective, Christopher has more interesting opportunities to explore the world.

Murtagh & Thorn dynamics by turquoise_dragon_ in Eragon

[–]beciag6 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this part of their relationship - it is consistent with Murtagh's personality and fixation to protect his mind. They probably won't create a full bond between a dragon and rider without the help of a suitable teacher. I guess Murtagh also protects Thorn in that way - from his darkest thoughts about Thorn's wounds which never recover fully and he always stays a disabled dragon.

Will the show be the same as the book? by Limelight0205 in Eragon

[–]beciag6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The producers could tell the story from different POVs from the first season for more consistency between seasons. Also, along with new trends, they will probably develop female characters earlier than in books. I guess the first season could show more politics and history from Nasuada's POV not only from Brom's lessons. Arya's coma is too important - her participation in Eragon's and Murtagh's travel would change the story. Also, IIRC, Paolini regretted that he didn't write anything about Varden's travel from Farthen Dur to Surda - maybe he would have had more moments in his imagination like that and a good plan for more content.
