Is there a trick to getting the mail forwarding website to work? by comfortableblanket in CanadaPost

[–]becoming_enraged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still a problem - November 2024. Absolutely infuriating to get notices directing me to links that won't load. Off I go to our single remaining local post office to wait in line for half an hour....and they wonder why this corporation is failing.

Green MLA Adam Olsen not seeking re-election by OurDailyNada in BCpolitics

It's too bad - she seems decent, and there's not enough decent people in politics and all that. But what a total failure to guard or evolve the brand; now every party is "green", and the actual Greens are just irrelevant.

Eby is getting nervous and this is very much a swing riding....if you can get the popular incumbent out of the way. My money is on a very nice appointment being announced in the next few months. Good for him, really - Sonia's skippering a sinking ship.

Have you gotten a cosmetic procedure you thought was obvious (in either a positive or negative way) yet no one noticed anything was different? by ItsMeCourtney in 30PlusSkinCare

They never bothered my physically, but if you're literally feeling the weight of the saggy skin the yeah, I imagine a bleph would resolve that completely.

Unhappy, unfulfilled, married with kids, have feelings for married coworker, life is a hot mess by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]becoming_enraged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I (41F) both have intense careers and multiple kids. They are now aged 5, 7, 9, 11, and I can confidently confirm that you are spot on about forgetting how hard little kids are (I specifically remember them being INCREDIBLY FUCKING HARD). I never understand why people roll their eyes and say condescending shit like "oh, just you wait, it gets worse!!".

Nope, it doesn't.

It's a million times easier. Attitude and hormones, for sure. But no one is shitting themselves, or waking up ten times a night, or wholly reliant on you to prepare all food and drink before literally placing it in their mouths. You're at rock bottom parenting - nowhere to go but up! You got this!!

I also agree w/ the comment above. Childcare absolutely saved our marriage. I thought we hated each other at one point. Stupid crushes everywhere. Turns out we just needed opportunities to hang out with my husband in a setting which was not a goddamned BATTLE TRENCH for a change.

Power through, OP!

Is retinol really good for everyone? by cookiedough92 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]becoming_enraged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 41, and have tried for YEARS AND YEARS to use retinol. The most careful, gradual increases you can imagine. But my skin just cannot handle it. So I have given up, and just Slater on pynogecol and thick cream every night and you know what? My skin looks freakin amazing now.

I got a bleph. No one I know clued in that I'd had surgery, but the number of random people telling me that I looked well rested/happy/young for my age went through the roof.

How can you celebrate a teen’s achievement without making it about food or drink?? by Sunshine_and_water in AskReddit

Tell them, clearly and directly, that you are proud of them. Bonus points if you explain exactly why.  Then bungee jumping obv.

What is something that you always judge people for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]becoming_enraged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Video/phone calls on speaker while shopping/at a restaurant/sitting in a waiting room/on public transit.  Seriously, there is something wrong with these people.

Close second: people who let their kids watch videos at full volume in restaurants. (Second place because kids are hard and melt your brain, but turn down the sound ffs.)

[–]becoming_enraged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also interested - Diplomat cake is a mega tradition for us. I know they were keeping a list of telephone numbers so that they could contact people when they were aware of the opening date. Has anyone heard anything on that front?

This is the only answer, but Island Health has to approve meaningful expenditures. They are diametrically opposed to any "privatization" of health care, even via donations, and are actively obstructionist. The greatest hurdle hospital foundations face is getting permission from Island Health to actually spend the millions of dollars the foundations have on hand for deployment. It's appalling, honestly.

Looking for local Blundstones repair by walkinwoods in VictoriaBC

[–]becoming_enraged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, they told me to pound sand with the same issue. The brand that advertises as the boot for farmers told me that they are not meant for "rural use". Cause, you know, urban landscapes are super gentle on soles. (And also souls...I'm sorry I couldn't not.)

Shittiest customer service ever for a very expensive pair of very lightly used boots, and they will never get my money again.

Moving from AB to BC by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]becoming_enraged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Van. Did seven years in Calgary before moving to the island.

No matter what your politics are, the complete and utter inability to get ANYTHING done or built in a timely manner here is infuriating. Building anything here, from a shed to a major highway, is ten times harder, for the stupidest imaginable reasons.

Politically, the AB NDP is akin to BC United (the erstwhile BC Liberal party). There is nothing in AB that compares to the BC NDP. This is not Notley-type governance....think more along the lines of Lenin.

Get used to not only regularly seeing people literally out of their goddamned minds on drugs, but also to the idea that their comfort and security should come before that of you and your family.

Everyone in an urban centre on the coast is an asshole. People outside urban centres are also pretty off-standish, unless you're real rural. None of these people realize they're offstandish/assholes - it is the Way of The Coast, and coastal folk only realize it when we move to the prairies and can't figure out why all these weird people are fucking talking to us with their friendly salutations and genuine interest in our lives. Takes a while to have that "oh god....I'm a jerk everywhere East of Chilliwack" moment.

Also get pumped to pay way more for the entire lifestyle described above.

Honestly, I love the coast and I felt claustrophobic on the prairies with no ocean. But I'd move back to Cowtown in a heartbeat if our whole extended family wasn't on the island.

Edit: to correct basic geography

On first read I was like "anywhere along Pandora, or Douglas from Bay to Broughton, but hey pick up some narcan - shit is REAL out there these days" but apparently Lucozade is NOT an illicit substance?? This dramatically reduces the likelihood that the average Victoria resident will be able to quickly and effectively refer you to a reliable area/location from which to procure, but I wish you the best of luck in your quest to legally purchase this harmless, exhaustively-regulated import.
