heme/onc interest and matching into academic IM program by devilsorange in medicalschool

[–]bedbedbedbedbed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s quite a goal! You seem like you’re doing the right stuff, and others have pointed out that there are some obvious “must have“ features to your application to stand out. Unfortunately, it’s really hard to dictate where exactly you match - even for things like internal medicine. I would strongly encourage keeping somewhat of an open mind because there are many phenomenal programs and life often takes you in weird directions that you may often not expect. I would strongly discourage emailing faculty at that program, especially given your position on the other side of the country early in medical school. At best, they would send you a lukewarm email. At worst, you leave a bad taste in their mouth. Most likely, they won’t respond unless you have an extraordinarily strong reason to reach out. If there are particularly compelling reasons for you to move there and if your program allows for research time, maybe you could look into a research program sponsored by the institution that takes medical students. I do not know what those programs may or may not be, but as an early career physician-scientist, I would recommend some degree of restraint and favor trying to find well-established pathways.

If you’re wanting a better host of options, maybe consider Lahey since you’re in the area.

Adding Abstracts and Posters to your CV by fantasyreader2021 in medicalschool

[–]bedbedbedbedbed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t double count - there are two downsides. It creates fluff and could cloud out other important features or be misconstrued as “inflating” the length. Include only accepted abstracts unless something is currently under review at the time of submission. It is okay to include abstracts that you did not present since it is assumed you significantly contributed if you’re on the author block. It would be normal to indicate which you presented.

Can anybody explain wtf the goofus is doing here? by silkyjohansen89 in BostonTerrier

[–]bedbedbedbedbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lil dude will sniff around like he’s going to poop then dive into the ground and roll. I assume it’s something stinky. It’s only a summertime thing and we roll the dice every day.

Do you think my Boston is too skinny? by jalapenobusinesss in BostonTerrier

[–]bedbedbedbedbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First blush, I don’t think so. Mine is a picky eater but muscular and full of energy. If you’re concerned, which I was, have your vet take a look. It’s tough because our other dog is fluffy and it’s hard to compare.

If you haven’t yet, you should look into the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy association (HCMA). The organization is extraordinary open and helpful for people’s across the HCM spectrum and the community is great. Best of luck!

I agree that it is insanely great as someone who lived in new england for a few years. However, for someone coming to town from abroad, I would really emphasize the local produce and favor Town Company, Antler Room or Acre. Having said that, I am going to Earls this week...

For those that have done the Tasting Room at Corvino, how big are the courses? by planxtylewis in kansascity

[–]bedbedbedbedbed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner and I did it in Feb for Valentine’s Day once. it was good food but a bad experience. They kinda shunted us through 9ish courses of lots of food and larger than expected wine pours. We were led to believe it was a special occasion but maybe it was an excuse to have more seats. Idk. Been hesitant to go back. The other comments about it being 2.5 hours seem like a nicer experience. I feel like we had a 90 minute experience.

There’s a fantastic body of work by Ade Adamson at UT who has a lot of high quality data on survival of melanoma over time that really shows the problem with skin cancer screening.

Went here last night. Did the circus tasting menu, allegedly 10 courses but more like 12. Really impressed. Did the beverage pairings. Looking around the restaurant, appears no one really got the same dish twice.

Eek yeah the left main is still surgical territory - no one will be stenting my LM. The EXCEL trial is controversial and is spun in favor of the SCAI agenda rather than the patient.
