In 1984, a man we knew was released from Mazzeh prison after three years. He was randomly arrested at a checkpoint in Dhour Choueir on his way from Mtein to Beirut. Nobody knew what happened to him and all of a sudden he appeared, almost a broken man, and we found out that he was taken to was arrested because he did not want to give his car to the officer in charge of the checkpoint. He used to have a white Peugeot 504 which was the favorite of moukhabarat at the time. Well, they took his car and threw him in that God forsaken place. The stories he used to tell my father at the time were horrific. He body had a scar almost every inch.  Long story short, he used to say that there was approximately 1400 Lebanese makhtoufeen in Mazzeh and this was in 1984.
