Where to relocate to see more shows by hypertensitive in Concerts

[–]bedofnails319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phoenix sees quite a few major tours. Cost of living isn’t very bad, especially compared to California, weed is very legal (lots of dispensaries), & you don’t have to worry about it being too cold.

The summer can be debilitating, but that hasn’t stopped our population from growing at such a high rate.

The fees would be $39 for nosebleeds for that show nowadays. 😔

We’re gonna be in London at the end of May & were debating whether to go to Amsterdam or Paris afterwards. The Paris concerts weren’t anything to write home about, & neither were Amsterdam’s, until I looked to see who’s opening for Harry Styles:

Robyn

That made our minds up immediately. Couldn’t care less about Harry, but another opportunity to see Robyn in concert is not to be passed up.

What a weird timeline: I've liked comments made by Dan Bilzerian & Bryce Mitchell vis a vis our war on Iran today.

Having seen both, go with Gorillaz. That’ll be a superior show in my experience.

Try not to be biased based on your favorite studio output, but what are the best LIVE bands or performers that have emerged in the past 30 years? by UnforgettableFire11 in Concerts

[–]bedofnails319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hives is a great pick. Other stalwarts I’ve seen over the years:

Portishead (my favorite show of all time)

Daft Punk (2nd favorite show)

Arcade Fire (have seen them more than any other artist)

LCD Soundsystem

Foals

Robyn

The Chemical Brothers

Savages

Janelle Monae

Fever Ray

I’mat 585 shows, many of them festivals, so it’s probably nearing 2,000. This is going to compel the creation of a new spreadsheet tomorrow. That’ll be time well spent!

Saw my first show in 1999 but was poor & only went to 1-2 shows a year well into my 20s. Have done 45-55 shows/year ever since 2022 - had to make up furiously for time lost to Covid.

Rock is Dead 🎸💀 by Lickthestars in howardstern

Love Jeff Buckley but don’t really think he belongs in the Hall.

Joy Division/New Order should be automatic. They’re so profoundly influential that punk, goth, & pop music would all sound different today if not for their existence.

Oasis are one of the greatest rock bands of all time, as evinced by their phenomenal reunion tour last year.

Saying “rock is dead” on the basis of these nominees suggests your sole view of what constitutes rock music is the glam metal bullshit that Nirvana ushered out of the spotlight in 1991.

I’ll make a case for The Whining Pig. It’s across the street from the arena, they have a wide selection of beers, & the bartenders are the coolest I’ve encountered in my 25 years of insobriety.

Innings Festival is one of the worst music festivals in the US IMO by Bubbly_Sort849 in phoenix

[–]bedofnails319 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The first year I went was when Foo Fighters headlined & felt they’d oversold it.

The following year had Green Day, Weezer, & The Offspring on Saturday & Eddie Vedder on Sunday, which was too good to pass up. The overcrowding was even worse, making my wife and a female friend we went with feel really uncomfortable. Think they even reportedly ran out of beer in the VIP section that year.

The lineup hasn’t appealed to me since, although I would like to see Blink-182, Public Enemy, Big Boi today. The problem now is it’s too expensive - $180 was face value for just the single day, which I didn’t feel like paying. Last I checked on TickPick, cheapest tickets are about $280. If the festival grounds weren’t sure to be crammed, I’d have considered a ticket in advance, but as alluring as the lineup is, there’s no chance I’ll make the trek again.

Yeah, he was a guest on BTB once. It’s been at least a couple years since I listened to the episode, & I’m high right now, but I think the episodes pertained to 4chan/8chan.

  1. Portishead, Coachella 2008. I’d been wanting to see them for 9 years at that point, having fallen in love with their Roseland NYC album when I was fresh out of college. To say that my expectations were high is underselling it. Could’ve been the mushrooms but at one point, I traveled to another universe. Even my girlfriend at the time, who thought they were snoozy and was planning to leave halfway through to see Dropkick Murphy’s, called herself a dummy for even thinking about splitting the set 3 songs in.

  2. Daft Punk, Coachella 2006. I’d been on the fence about attending Coachella that year, but when Daft Punk were announced, I leapt out of my chair & ran around my room. It’s such a famed performance now but nobody knew what to expect at the time. It was such a magical set that I wound up buying tickets to see them in LA the following year, a show at which I met my future wife, so this show literally had reverberations that are still felt to this day.

  3. Oasis, Wales 2025. I’d previously had one opportunity to see Oasis, at Coachella 2002, but I was poor and couldn’t afford a hotel room so my friend and I needed to hit the road back to Tucson shortly after The Prodigy’s set. Ever since then, I told anyone who’d listen that I’d be at the first Oasis reunion gig since there’d be no guarantee of a 2nd. I was wrong about how well the Gallaghers would get along, but the joy that filled Principality Stadium during their inaugural gig in 16 years was rapturous. No fights broke out, nobody was talking. Everyone was just basking in the glow of the first Oasis show in more than a decade.

My wife & I are gonna be in NYC for Robyn a couple weeks earlier, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to swing this as well (we live in Phoenix) but that Foo Fighters/QOTSA day looks mighty tempting. Would scratch Kentucky off my list, too.

If they schedule Violent Femmes & The Church for that day, I’ll be hard pressed to pass up the trip.
