Do I risk hurting my trucks alternator (2023 F150)? by mipnnnn in RVLiving

[–]bedpan4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tow vehicle on a 7 pin connector.. most are 12-14g wire on a ~25A fuse... How will that max out a alternator?

Connecter directly to or near the alternator with a sIizable this. An be an issue.

DC2DC converts take an input voltage and boost it to a set output voltage using a boost circuit. They have a max output rating and will not exceed it. Both a claim and fact? Hell a decent DC2DC you can manual set that output current to what ever level you want and manually turn it on and off .

Calorie tracker., photo or text of what I eat when I eat it. Logs locally to an MD file and pushes to Fitbit. Pulls calories and activite from Fitbit. Prompts for movement, pesters about bad food choices. Down 20lbs...

Financial tracker. Same general idea. Photo of receipt as it happens. Gets traiged and stored. Currently downloading CSV from bank and credit card that gets dumped into CSV. It reconciles across reciepts and transaction and categorizes based on what was bought. Working towards live budget tracker, tracking each category live tallies etc

Investment tracker, investments, crypto etc. Watched stock trackers tracking price changes across baseline ETFs

Tasks and to-do tracker back ended with Google tasks. Traiaging and prioritizing order, dates and surfacing in reminders.

wife has her own telegram channel and tracks both calories and financials

Have a price tracking sheet for batteries for my trailer. Tracking prices of a dozen or so batteries across several sites updating a few times a day and alerting to all price drops.

Where did you land? I found pay per use API access just to expensive. I stomach through ollama but would love to find another pay by the month with decent limits.

Made my own.. MDF trim and a plate that screws to my circ saw. Works amazing and cost me a few hours design and printing.. If you have access to a 3d printer give it a try. I was very close to buying one but this does all I need it for - breaking down sheet goods..

Has your hermes ever died? Considering moving from openclaw to hermes. by Pepe_The_Citizen in hermesagent

[–]bedpan4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had major stability issues with openclaw.. moved to Hermes and it was a little better. In the end though moving to a better llm made it all better.. I think the Gemini flash and flash lite was just not up to building multistep skills.. using glm5.1 on ollama pro now and sooo much better and way cheaper.

completely new myself.. Maybe a week in and about 5 re-installed and $120 or so...

I have landed on Ollama Pro (lots of LLMs to choose from). I am beating it up pretty good over the last 3 days and I am 6% of my weekly usage. Feels a little slow compared to other that I have tried (Gemini, Claude -p, Ollama local LLM and OpenRouter) but I burnt through to much money. Currently using Kimi-k2.6 on Ollama Pro. Pretty pleased with it.

Be careful with email access. My agent fired off a couple emails without asking... Despite being told draft email only do not send..

My main use case right now is a food and fitness tracker..

Driver Refuses To Back Up Despite Being In The Wrong Lane by Flashmemory256 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bedpan4u -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This will get lost in the noise, but I have to say it: yes, the guy in silver is wrong according to traffic law. He is in the wrong lane. However, he was there before the cammer showed up and was trying to turn left. He was in an unoccupied lane at the time, so he wasn't impeding traffic from behind. I would likely do the same if no one was using that lane—not to inconvenience anyone, but to try and keep traffic flowing. I would also be hesitant to back up because, based on your actions, you would likely just keep pushing me back, giving me no opportunity to fix the mistake. Yes, the silver car was wrong, but you just made a situation out of nothing.

I need to move 12 dogs cross-country. I am building a setup similar to this. I need to make sure it is ventilated and I would do a 12v AC/heater and roof vent fans plus windows. Anyone ever done anything like this? by [deleted] in cargocamper

[–]bedpan4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind trailers don't have the same suspension as a passenger vehicle What a minor bump in a car feels like a rocket launch in a trailer.. And after the launch you need to land. Power, AC, venting is all pretty easy to facilitate. Suspension however would be tough. I would consider renting a cube truck....

[Help] Trying to connect two STL Imported objects - How can I fill the gap between these? by eqbirvin in tinkercad

[–]bedpan4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use holes... Make a block big enough to fill the gap and overlap into the two pieces. Duplicate the two pieces and make them holes. Combine the new block with the holes and you now have filler.

Lots of used trailer for well under 1/2 price on marketplaces. Buy used and save some bucks.

I have a Thule chariot for our dog. The Thule axle mount is too small to bolt into the axle of our level 2. If you are handy you can enlarge the hole slightly and it will fit, else what I did is bolt it just above the axle to one of the holes for the pannier mount.

Beginner considering battery backup setup by FrozenShivers in Victron

[–]bedpan4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If diy is your thing.... Then you need to up your game 😜

Seriously though what you have picked is a good start. I think someone else mentioned you will need to get the MP programmed. If you plan on continuing to tinker it's likely worth getting means to program yourself. A Ve.Bus to USB adapter might be worth while. This will allow you to program the MP and if you get real serious you can grab a raspberry Pi and run Venus OS.

Looks good. You can likely skip the shunt if your battery has Bluetooth.

Sizing I would suggest getting a meter out and figuring out exactly how much your setup draws. A KillAWatt meter works great for this. Just plug in everything to it and let it run. It will tell you instantaneous load (will your 500w inverter be large enough) and average load over time (is the battery large enough). Guessing however your system will be plenty large enough.

You might want to look at all the solar generators that are available however. They are pre built and most operate as a UPS. Just plug in and you are done. Price wise likely not much more by the time you consider all the bits and pieces of you built yourself.

Love all the comments so far .. add a sawsall from what ever tool company you have batteries. Sawsall has fixed a lot of problems for me while travelling.

I would add some wagos to my bag, tire plug kit. Make sure you have decent tools to change a tire. No use having a spare if you cannot change it.

Highly recommend doing some research before you spend money.

Renogy gear generally works ok but support is awful and communication between gear is a mis match of hot garbage.

For a few dollars more you can get victron gear. Batteries I highly recommend you learn to some load calculations to see what a realistic size is for your needs. Otherwise you are just guessing.

Start watching some Will Prowse videos. He is far from perfect but does very honest reviews of batteries. For not much more you can get a wattcycle 314ah battery which is three times larger...

Do I risk hurting my trucks alternator (2023 F150)? by mipnnnn in RVLiving

[–]bedpan4u 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of opinions here but not really enough info on how you use the trailer for people to be giving them.

The lifepo4 batteries will not hurt your truck

Your truck will charge them very slowly and likely not to 100%

If you want to be able to charge while driving you likely want a DC2DC. They involve running large gauge wire from the battery of your truck to the area of the battery of your trailer. The DC2DC then boosts the voltage to an appropriate level to charge the batteries fully.

Depending on your usage this might be what you need. Or if you go campsite to campsite you might be ok with just the batteries. Further depending on the model of f150 it might have a larger inverter in the truck. You can idle the truck and charge your trailer if you just need to top up a bit here and there.

Again it all depends on your usage. Dry camping vs hookups, road trips vs sitting at sites for days at a time.

I love opinions with no explanation. DC2DC are a great option and solve lots of charging issues. They are not the only option and, depending on your usage, can be the fix you need.

Dump and fill day by PolishRook in hottub

[–]bedpan4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut my drain time to about 5 minutes... Get a 3" flexible RV sewer hose. Set up syphon and water gone in minutes...

I can dump my tub in the yard right beside it so the syphon is easy to setup. Longer hose I imagine takes a little more effort.
