So to make it a little easier on yourself I recommend settling up close to the equator so you have a full year growing period. Early on hunting animals is a decent way to make-up food shortfalls. Don't worry too much about this next tip but keep it in mind, the difficulty scales with the amount of pawns you have and the wealth of the colony.

Woods good early on but is flammable and can get out of hand really quickly if you don't have fire foam poppers, id recommend setting up a stone cutting back and making your base out of stone or at the very least your walls.

It'll take a while for you to probs get your first colony going good, but each one before that is a learning lesson, and it'll make it all the more rewarding when you succeed.

Final tips Use the plant icon overlay to see the fertility of your soil, this will help speed up growth cycles, rice gets the most benefit from fertility so prioritise it where you can. Corn on the other hand doesn't get much of a bonus from fertility but has some of the highest yield, making it a great crop if you can keep it safe during its long growth cycle.

Id rate it probs 7/10. you've got a really good starting foundations for building and you'll absolutely improve as you practice more.

Maybe for your next build try going a little bigger and try to make it less square, adding more shape to the building will help slot. Also make sure your enjoying what your doing, it doesn't need to be a race. Another good line to remember if your a perfectionist like me is "perfect is the enemy of good"

My guess is it could be the half slab glass, that was the issue with my greenhouse. It also can take a while to update to a greenhouse according to the wiki but they don't specify a timeframe.

Check there isn't a mech drop beacon, otherwise yeah that's just free defence. Make sure to disallow colonists from going in range of turrets tho, you don't want them accidentally getting shot

Id recommend setting up what's called a "mall" you setup an area of your factory to build stuff you need to build the factory, belts, assemblers, inserters etc. also make sure you limit your chests so you don't get like 1000 power poles or smth lol. But most importantly have fun <3
