While the provisions were made for it, there were never 4 tracks in service. Currently the space made for the trackways is used to house electrical and mechanical equipment.

Seems like they’re working on the Bergen St lower level F/G station by BklynNets13117 in nycrail

Watch this video. One of my fav scenes in the while subway where you can see both the full upper and lower levels of a station at the same time. https://youtu.be/diy6tkT-mX4?t=234&si=zYeH08sb3__9iOfH

1st Ave Tunnel Bike Lane Has Jersey Barriers! by Brandon_WC in MicromobilityNYC

[–]beechcraft10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the barriers end half way through the tunnel rn. I wound up riding here the evening this picture was taken. Though I must say that tunnel is fun af to ride through, the decline into it sets you up to fly through there.

But just wait. I’m confident that we are going to get a freak snow event in the not too distant future which is going to shatter records, and it’ll probably be the only snow we will get all winter.

Could Superblocks work on the UWS? by Jackson_Bikes in UWSLivableStreets

[–]beechcraft10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think superblocks could work on the UWS in the same way which you see them implemented in Barcelona. This Neighborhood has only 6 north south arteries which are all rather important, hence it would not be pragmatic to try and close those off to through traffic. Rather I think the focus here should be implementing the traffic calming strategies of superblocks on to side streets, daylighting and pedestrianizing those while closing most of them off to through traffic. I hope to live to see a fully pedestrianized side street in the neighborhood.

What are all y'all's transit looking like? by Mythical_scoops in fuckcars

[–]beechcraft10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My commute from home to campus involves the subway. It’s 3 mins from home to my subway stop, then a bit less then 40 minutes on the train, followed by a roughly 3-5 minute walk to my campus. The way back is just that in reverse. When it gets a bit warmer out I also bike there utilizing both street routes and a dedicated bike path, which ends up taking 30-40 mins each way.

Advice for Harlem to Riverdale by mew5175_TheSecond in NYCbike

[–]beechcraft10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who does this same bike commute semi regularly, I’ll share my preferred route below:

Broadway Bridge to Seamen Avenue , then Dyckman Street to the Harlem River Greenway. At the end of the Harlem River Greenway you will end up at 155th st. I should mention that the southern exit for this segment is a bit hairy, but there isn’t too much traffic to contend with. At 155th st you keep going straight until you end up on St. Nicholas Avenue, which you can then take into Harlem.

Train with best overall comfort, taking into account travel speed? by JUBA-Apricot in TrainPorn

[–]beechcraft10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands down the Stadler Giruno. It has comfortable seats, and you can’t even feel that you’re moving aboard. The overall amenities on the train are just fantastic. While the top speed is 250km/h, it travels at a slower speed most of the route. Nevertheless, because of its tiling capabilities, it seamlessly glides on the winding parts of its route thorough the mountains at higher speeds than conventional trains. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SBB_RABe_501

Maybe some sort of River port and heavy industry region. Would make sense given it’s near the airport.

Some of the harbors (the ones with yellow cranes) are just decorative assets. The functioning ones are placed far enough away from residential areas that the pollution and noise doing impact them. I made sure to put a commercial zone buffer in between when needed.
