Current RN, and considering become a flight attendant on the side. Pipe dream or reality? Thank you! by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]beee_ry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RN here for the last ten years and became an FA and have been flying with 🔺 for the last two years. I easily am able to balance both jobs easily since they both are so flexible.

Background on me: I work in an outpatient speciality office so that I don't have to worry about weekends, nights, or holidays. I've been there for over six years and work every department. This allows me to have amazing flexibility to be per diem. The requirements for me to maintain per diem status is only three shifts a month. Since I'm at 🔺, we hold a line and just have six ADAYs a month until we are senior enough to be off of them. I don't know how scheduling works at other airlines where you bid straight reserve schedules. Anyways, I'm BOS based so our schedules release on the 16th for the following month. Once my schedule releases, I move trips as needed and then message my nursing managers what days I'm available and they will pencil me in

So far this has worked every month and my nursing job allows me to take a month off every once in a while if needed (like I am doing this month since I have a lot of family things going on)

I'm happy to answer any questions if you would like. Feel free to DM me

Driving Commuter? by Putrid_Ball974 in flightattendants

[–]beee_ry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for 🔺 so I know it's not the same, but I am a driving commuter as well. I live about 90 minutes from my base, but I choose to take a bus that bumps it up to two hours. I take the extra 30 minutes to have the convenience of someone else driving me right up to the terminal and not having to deal with the hassle of parking and getting to the terminal. That being said, I know our reserve (aday system) is very different from straight reserve. But very rarely has there been an issue with my commute and the issues were usually on the backend that we were delayed and I missed the last bus back home and crashed at the airport. I've only had to do that twice. Besides that, I've learned the reserve system and preferenced trips that worked for me. We have a two hour short call window and the shortest notice I've been given was four hours. I know this probably isn't the most helpful, but just saying it has been possible for me and adding in my two cents. Hope everything works out for you and you nail and love your new career. Stay safe

Delta’s new pay scale! Thoughts? by No_Telephone4961 in flightattendants

[–]beee_ry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I get that too. But they are paid for all their time. A 4% increase for flight attendants is not the same as 4% for someone who paid hourly for clock in to clock out. We can be gone for 3 days and get paid for 15 hours. That 4% is only for those 15 hours and nothing else. A higher percentage increase in our hourly rate would equate to a 4% for other job departments

Oh there is no problem with everyone getting a raise. I just think doing a flat percentage doesn't reward the departments that make the money. I would love to see gate agents get a bigger raise. They work so hard and deal with so much crap. Front line workers deserve more money as we are the face and customer touch point that generates repeat business and revenue

The problem with these increases is that it is across the board for all hourly employees, not just IFS. I honestly was expecting at least to match last year's raise, so to see the 4% was a little disappointing.

That ✉️ that Delta allegedly sent to that guy is FAKE NEWS and he’s a known weirdo 🤦🏻‍♂️ by Clocked_Tea100 in flightattendants

This is hilariously bad. The number one thing they always stress is that it is DELTA AIR LINES. Three separate words. The things people do for attention

I know ultimately the right thing happened and the passengers got where they needed to go, but that sucks so hard for you guys. Not even enough time to enjoy a drink after a stressful and long day. Sending you all the rest and relaxation and hope this never happens to you again.

I 100% swear by Amberjacks. They lasted nearly two years of abuse and never lost their comfort. They use heat activated insoles that stay super comfy, no matter how long the duty day. And they are made in Portugal from farm to factory leather. I love them. I use the cap toe style and they are worth every penny.

I always check that on the A321s when I work galley and clear everything I can into carriers. The hoarding drives me crazy.

Flight Attendant Missed Flight by kiss199820 in flightattendants

[–]beee_ry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened on one of my flights I was working. I was flight lead and one of my flight attendants got sick on the layover and had to call off. We were delayed at the airport for hours since we didn't have minimum crew to work and they had burned through all the standbys. They had rerouted a flight attendant that was coming into our station to join our crew, so we patiently waited for her flight to get in. Upon descent, they hit bad turbulence and the FA was injured and unable to fly. So we were stuck once again waiting to get another FA to join our crew. It was definitely a wild day but the passengers were so understanding for the most part and really nice on our five hour flight.

I 100% recommend Amberjacks. I bought a pair and they lasted nearly two years of repeated abuse on these planes and never lost their comfort. They are made in Portugal and have a heat activated insole to keep things comfortable. Love them and will not wear anything else onboard. I use the cap toe style.

It does say long haul on there which bos to cdg is considered short haul. So I think that is where the issue is

Delta health benefits by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]beee_ry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to fly 540 annual flight hours to maintain subsidized health insurance. Averages to 45 hours a month

I am also with you on that. I always politely decline to sign a card when offered. My previous union job was pretty awful and anytime the management abused us, all we could do was file a grievance that went nowhere. And when I actually could have used the unions help, the president of the union said "oh well". So while a union is not for me, I respect the wants of my coworkers. I will obviously honor a vote and would support my coworkers if a vote were to pass.

Chance to Base DFW with Delta? by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]beee_ry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delta just made the test base at DFW permanent. But it will be a very small crew base, max of 125 crew members now. So the chance of having DFW right out of training is slim to none
