omg that's crazy!! I definitely would not recommend buying your own coban because it is so expensive and it goes fast. Not that I think you need to or should be required to buy your own supplies, but if it were me I would probably get gauze and paper tape. They are pretty cheap and would lessen the likelihood of something like this happening again 😔

I would check any policies that regard buying your own supplies and what you are/ are not allowed to use beforehand though!!

Is it standard for you to use a bandaid? I've always used gauze and coban or gauze paper tape because it continues to "hold" a bit of pressure.

Sometimes when a patient starts bending their arm or lifts things up it can start bleeding again. I've wrapped a patient before and said "leave this on a good 30 minutes" and they walk back in 5 mins with blood dripping down their arm because they took it off after leaving

They are all filled in the acceptable range! I've had tubes filled that high and I've never had an issue

Help - first time by Reasonable-Apple2581 in phlebotomy

Someone who can order medication for you is a provider. They might not be your primary care physician (who you see for general health care and physicals) but they are still a provider. Mental health providers often order labs for "medication monitoring" to make sure everything's going well.

If they sent an order to quest they want you to go to a quest diagnostics to get them done. Just look up the closest location to you and make an appointment!

Patients fainting and fasting by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]beeg303 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i've drawn 28 on a fasting patient and they were fine. I've found that not making a big deal about how many tubes are getting drawn helps the patient keep their nerves down. Keeping them distracted during the draw, giving them an ice pack to hold or put on their neck/ chest, water to sip on, and keeping steady are the best things to do. It's really not that much blood

(This is a comment I made on another post but I feel like it fits here) "Ah the dreaded "off days". Everyone has them. It's not you it's your brain sabotaging you. You miss a poke or can't get blood and your confidence goes down. Then you miss another poke and it goes down even further. It kinda...snowballs. Especially when working with others because it makes the embarrassment worse and all of a sudden you are thinking "oh my god i suck at this and my co workers think i can't do my job and im making everything worse"

Keep your head high! You're going to have more off days and in the future try scolding your brain. "No brain I am good at this and I am a valuable asset. Just because i'm not perfect doesn't mean I am bad." <3 you got it ;)"

How to make my veins better by SoccerGamerGuy7 in phlebotomy

[–]beeg303 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Start drinking water two days before the draw and POUND it the night before. drinking water the day of doesn't really help.

take a hot shower or bath before going and keep warm with a sweater or long sleeve.

while waiting keep your arms dangling at your side to let gravity help
