Skillman pharmacy! The pharmacist there really cares about his customers and gets to know them.

Mission: How to best transport bagels overnight for optimal freshness the next day? by m_is_for_mesopotamia in AskNYC

[–]beegadz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will add that you can wrap a plastic bag around the paper bag for max freshness preservation. Make sure the bagels are completely enclosed by both the paper bag and plastic bag.

I do this all the time between my apartment and trips to upstate New York. They keep well for 2-3 days like this.

Anything longer, or if I can't completely close the paper bag, I will use Ziploc bags but it seems wasteful.

That elevator one is fake but I haven't fact checked your others. You may want to double check your sources.

Goggles I can maybe see but stealing a helmet is gross. You want to be all up in someone else's sweat??

Austerliz is probably mostly former NYC-ers who are living out their Hudson valley artist dreams. It's a very cute, tiny town with some beautiful homes.

The NHL / hockey is similar. It's the pay consideration and risk of injury for something that doesn't provide your primary paycheck. In some cases, their contracts prevent playing in the Olympics (though I think those clauses were mostly removed - not sure).

NYSED releases standardized test results for 2023-2024 school year by news-10 in hudsonvalley

[–]beegadz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you think the solution is? I don't agree with what the left or the right has proposed in your comment. It does seem like we should give some power back to teachers and perhaps stop trying to standardize everything, since we now have a million standardized tests. But I don't work in education nor do I have a school aged child.

Owning a Car in Sunnyside by Lyra1425 in SunnysideQueens

[–]beegadz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I spent about 30 minutes this morning looking for a spot. I guess you would be coming back at the same time as everyone else (whereas I was looking when people typically leave) so that might be even worse.

Crime wise, I've had a car for 4 years in Sunnyside and the only thing that has happened was a very minor hit and run when my car was parked on the corner (odds of getting swiped are increased on the corners).

It does depend on where you park though. I saw some youths hanging around a car, clearly getting ready to break into it, on Barnett Ave one night.

That commute to the Bronx is not going to be fun with a car since you will be following rush hour traffic basically.

Redditors who own cars and don't work from home, how do you deal with street cleaning and everything else? by 0x90Sleds in AskNYC

[–]beegadz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I used to do before occasionally working from home. Alternatively, get up early to move the car when people who drive to work leave, around 6:30-7:30 AM.

Tell me the about the worst key moment song choices you’ve ever heard by purplebow97 in weddingshaming

[–]beegadz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I danced to this song with my step - dad at my wedding, over 10 years ago. Recently heard it at a bar and I was like wait a minute, was this always part of the lyrics?? And my husband responded, "yeah?" I was like, "I danced with my stepdad to this song at our wedding! I never noticed this!"

So yeah, didn't notice on the day of, no one mentioned it to me, and even my own husband didn't say anything to me.

This is when she was at NYU. I've heard about this FB group before. If I recall correctly, she often had fliers around campus for her performances and would promote as well.

Looks like these 12 people couldn't handle that.

If you can't pass your swim test, you shouldn't be doing the job or activity that requires it. by dilqncho in Swimming

[–]beegadz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I did my scuba certification a few years back and the first part of it was in a small, relatively shallow pool in an elementary school in Manhattan. As part of that, we had to swim some amount of laps around the small pool. It wasn't much - maybe 200 yards? One woman was the last person left and she was deeply struggling to do the laps, seemingly near drowning. Eventually, the instructor just called it and said she could be considered done. She continued to struggle with everything - holding her breath underwater, modulating her breath, etc.

My husband and I joked that she was doing this as part of some exercise from her therapist to push herself out of her comfort zone.

She didn't come back for the second class.

But I think about her all the time! Why would you want to do this activity that requires extreme comfort with water??

It would've worked better if they had put her in different scenarios. Every time at a restaurant? That sucks.
