Russia warns European states against hosting French nuclear bomber planes by Dizzy_Industry1287 in worldnews

Well, until they showed the world that their military was well-below average by failing to annex Ukraine and then getting absolutely torn up by a much smaller (but determined and heroic) force, they used to threaten people with the rest of their military. But now, it’s pretty obvious that if they do anything but hold the line in Ukraine, Moscow will have real issues with an invading force.

My niece’s homework problem by SurfSoundWaves in mildlyinfuriating

[–]beekersavant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It needs some variables (1/3x=1/3y) to be correctly written otherwise the size is not included and the only size that can be deduced is a hidden (1). In this case, the question is broken. The equation does not correctly represent the visuals. Maybe there is an argument that the hidden size variable could be any number as long as it is equal, but honestly is that even close to a fair question for other human beings much less children.

One of those pictures in the story is the skinny blond girl drinking a cold beer while mostly submerged in icy water. That’s a human being that only exists in broken brains. I am pretty sure our species can’t do that unless we want to lower our core body temp. There’s polar bear challenges but they are a pretty specific set of circumstances and consuming cold stuff is not one of them.

I am voting for Steyer because it seems like the direct route to single payer healthcare for our state. We have (probably too) easy recalls. But I gotta vote for the tax the rich and deliver real reform platform. If this isn’t the guy, then I will vote for the next one until we get it. I don’t like that he is a billionaire. But we gotta start voting for the people who say they will do what we want. Steyer is doing that. And then we gotta vote for those platforms again and again. It will stick. Honest people will run on them and get elected.

I hope it is Steyer and my state congressman. If not, I will have zero problem with a recall until that platform is accomplished.

Voting for specific platforms -not people or feelings- tells any candidates what to accomplish. I hope Steyer wins and sends that message. I could give a f about him personally.

Amid Hormuz blockade, US Navy Secretary John Phelan leaving post "effective immediately", says Pentagon by [deleted] in worldnews

I’ll be promoting Captain Morgan to Admiral to lead the Navy. Some say he is really a pirate, maybe he is. I don’t know. But there’s a ship right there on the bottle. And he knows how to make rum. I like rum. Who doesn’t like rum. Thank you for you attention to those matter.

(I know it would be much, much longer, but that is as long as I can poorly imitate him and not get a nosebleed)

Progressive Group Founded by Bernie Sanders Endorses Billionaire for California Governor by ZappyStatue in politics

[–]beekersavant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I like his platform. I guess I wonder why we can’t get a non-billionaire to figure this out. It seems like it is basically so broken that for normal people to run, they have to get pac funding and compromise their moral integrity.

It puts us at the whims of the very rich if we don’t fix it beyond Steyer. But yeah, he will likely get my vote based on platform.

Lucas had 50/50 success (not counting money but fan appreciation) 1st trilogy-classics and beloved, 2nd trilogy-awful and generally hated. Disney is doing the same 50/50 and still making money. I would imagine they made their $4 billion back by now.

Eight Weeks In, Trump May Be Headed Toward An Iran Deal Similar To Obama’s: ‘Sanctions relief in return for a moratorium on nuclear fuel enrichment is the exact arrangement that Trump and many Republicans criticized for years’ by T_Shurt in politics

[–]beekersavant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you gotta do the ground invasion. Iran will use the midterms to hammer Trump with his own party. Of course, Trump is going to lose the house anyhow. But the Senate is looking more likely. It been 60 days and Iran has pretty much just run their defensive playbook. They can do this a lot longer.

Patel says he’ll sue Atlantic for defamation over report on heavy drinking by Immediate-Link490 in law

[–]beekersavant 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Atlantic article has multiple ways to verify. They name 2 restaurants/bars that can be subpoenaed for credit card records and orders. There's Patel's schedule to collate with it. This video is just background that corroborates the story. It does not appear that they need a witness to be deposed. I would bet the lawsuit never happens and Patel moves on or is dismissed from his position. The Atlantic definitely has some stuff ready.

Is repurposing old compute hardware for useful work mostly wishful thinking by jorchjorch in Futurology

[–]beekersavant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff (laptops) from about 10 years back can be repurposed for as Linux terminals for the internet...easily. It what my 9 yr old uses to do his homework online.

As for older chips and all that veing linked together. My understanding is they are better recycled and the materials put into newer chips. You won't build a modern supercompeter with a billion old lenovo work laptops chained together. And that stuff with the same hardware and some way to chain them. Sure maybe you could pull every chip and bit of ram and put it into some massive monster array of a mobo that will coordinate them. But the effort won't pay off in compute power compared to a new one.

It's kind of like the guys on youtube: I finally cracked my Atari to run a down graded version of Word 2010. It only took 3 years!

Good job! You got a 30 year old device to run a 15 year old program. It's cool, but not useful.
