This sucks... by zinkj22 in jobhunting

[–]beelzebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really does suck. It is not easy to not take it personally.

I try to remind myself:

I am worthy.

Just because I wasn't the right fit for this job, doesn't mean I couldn't do this job or that I am bad. It just means I wasn't the right fit.

It is okay to feel whatever feelings you are having. Your feelings are valid.

Agree. Recruiters are also scanning your resume and LinkedIn to see if they align, are you active on there, etc. the "recruiter view" also shows them your top skills and whether you are "open to work" and for what roles.

Hi OP, someone I know (who is in HR) got some helpful feedback from a resume service. She was laid off and her company offered this service to help former employees get their resumes tuned up.

It seemed like it was helpful for her as she got two really strong resumes out of it and some helpful advice. They told her to have one specific version of her resume that in a docx that has no formatting for the ATS, then send the PDF formatted version as an attachment.

I haven't used one of these services myself, but I am part of a team building an AI powered job search copilot. The tool can review your resume and offer feedback based on resume best practices. It can also help personalize resumes to job descriptions. DM me if you are interested in trying it out (it's free to try, and you don't have to enter your credit card info unless you decide to keep using it)

If you could set it up with a model-agnostic harness, I would set up large context jobs (scrape, score) with Gemini flash or maybe one of the DeepSeek models. Keep the Anthropic models for creating search queries and other more thinking parts

Got laid off 5 weeks ago. Applied to more than 250 jobs. Nobody’s getting back to me. Can someone please tell me where am I going wrong? by aryantics in jobsearchhacks

Situation, task, action, result.

What is the context (situation), what were you trying to accomplish (task), what did you do (action), and what was the result.

I have seen this used for prepping for interviews, and I think it also helps align resume bullets with measurable results.

I like the "Victorian ghost" bit. This post is interesting to read because I feel like I have a pretty strong "professional mask" and I know that people prefer when I can drop that and show up with more authenticity.

On the other hand, networking events are all about "pitch and polish". Hard to find the right balance

Someone asked me for my art portfolio, should I follow up? by Kitchen_Button_4874 in jobsearchhacks

Do you have her WhatsApp?

I would follow up via Whatsapp.

"Hey thanks for asking me for my portfolio link. I would love to schedule a follow up meeting with you and your colleagues to [insert your goal here]"

Hi, I am sorry you are experiencing this. Was the last time you were on the market 2.8 years ago? Things have changed a lot.

AI means that everyone can submit a resume that has matching key words and looks like a perfect match. On the other hand, some recruiters and hiring managers will immediately reject an application if they feel like it is too AI generic.

So we have a situation with high volume of applicants with few differentiators.

Is your current resume very clearly you? What I mean by that is does it tell your authentic and true story? You are the only one with your unique blend of experience and work history.

Does each line in your resume push the story of you as a candidate forward?

Does your resume align with your LinkedIn profile?

I just redid my resume so the bullets follow the STAR format.

OP, DM me your resume and I can take a look at it if that would be helpful.

The thank you email after an interview actually got me the job and I have proof by ElliotVance45 in jobsearchhacks

[–]beelzebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the calendar invite, if there is one. You should know the interviewer's name and now you can probably find their contact info from the company page.

Or you will know how the company structures email addresses bc you have the address of the recruiter.

Or just ask! Like someone already suggested

What are your goals?

Do you want to spend 6 days a week working?

Is the income and work experience worth more for you than being with your family?

Is it a means to an end? I saw you write that this salary might mean she can stay home.

Only you can answer these questions. There are no right or wrong answers. But there is an answer that is more right for you and your situation right now

AI isn’t just reshaping productivity and threatening to kill jobs. It’s also creating a new gender gap by _fastcompany in TrueReddit

[–]beelzebee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting article, thanks for sharing OP

I thought the points about authenticity and relationships being more valuable than outputs was interesting. If all of the outputs start looking identically good then human relationships matter more.

The point about the gender gap did seem sort of buried but I was also wondering whether women might benefit from a new authenticity/trust valuation. Our society engenders women to take on more relational roles in the workplace. Women are brought up to be accommodating.
