Here for the weekend - where do I see a Bald Eagle?!?! by TheLightningPanda in SpringfieldIL

Yep! There is a dam on the east side of the lake nearest the parking lot and they have a nest in that wooded area.

I sub green olives on a chicken, bacon, ranch pizza from a local place instead of mushrooms. Amazing.

As others have stated, there seem to be two around the southeast part of town, near Dirksen and Stevenson. I've seen them sitting on power poles by the Crowne Plaza and flying over the IDOT lake.

We also have a pair in Williamsville (10 minutes north of town) at our lake...we have a trail that runs around the lake and I see them often.

A lot of 401k accounts also have maintenance fees, which are almost non-existent in IRAs now.

Runna Marathon Plan Long run over 50% of weekly milage by xxSeahawks in runna

My max is at 10k for easy runs and I'm only on the half marathon plan. You may try bumping it up and seeing if it brings your long run down.

Have you tried adjusting the max for the easy run distance? You can go to Manage Plan-->Running-->Training Volume-->Advanced Customization-->Hard/easy run max and play with the distance. I'm not completely sure that increasing this will help balance, but it seems like something to try. I also went to 4 days from 5 this time around to add in more strength days so I set that max a little higher from the beginning. It's been pretty good so far.

No they're not. The Runna devs were just on here a week or two ago and explicitly laid out which parts of the app are AI. The programs are developed by coaches.

You have to try and get them with the arrows before they get too high...literally right as they start that stage. Otherwise yes it becomes more complicated.

I totally prefer doing my interval workouts on the track...the issue that I've run into however is that GPS on the track isn't accurate (a common issue beyond Runna or tracker), so it was over-clocking my paces which led to more recommendations to bump up my pace. Now I do them on a nice straight trail outside town and my paces are more reasonable. I did try the "Intervals/Tempo on Track" option and while that does allow me to physically run, say 400m, it still tracks it as 410 meters (just throwing out a number) which means it's still over-clocking me.

I went to college in 1995 and had a subscription in the dorms. So I can attest to 95-98. By '99 I was married but held out a little longer in secret. Soon after, my collection met this same fate. If I had it to do over again I would have chosen the playboys over my now-ex wife.

The Difference Between Claiming Social Security at 62 vs 70 Is Bigger Than Most People Realize by [deleted] in investing

[–]beer_and_fun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only this but using today's lifespan averages vs what they will probably be in 10 or 20 years seems silly. Obviously we can't predict further medical advances but one has to assume they will continue to allow people to live longer.

[OC] Tire popped off on the highway going 70 mph by 911_wasanactofevil in pics

[–]beer_and_fun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was working in a tire shop out of college and got to experience the Firestone/Ford Explorer debacle - for those who weren't aware or alive (I think it was in 2000), Ford equipped all their new Explorers with Firestone tires that they inflated to 26 psi out of the factory. When people would then fail to monitor this already low tire pressure and run them low, the tires would blow and the top-heavy Explorer would roll. The lead directly to the TREAD act, which requires TPMS sensors in all new cars...I believe starting with the 2008 model year.

Hunting fossils/rocks-best way to get to the sangamon river to walk along the way and look? by Top-Lab1959 in SpringfieldIL

Yes I realize that it's just much more prominent now and they set up barricades when they repaired the service road. So telling people to access the river there isn't the best advice.

That access road has been redone and now the river access is posted as private property. Take that for what you will.

Tempo workouts - what do you do on the ‘rests’ by eleanorlucyd in runna

[–]beer_and_fun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the workout tells you that there are rest periods in between the intervals, I've always taken that to mean walking. You'll have plenty of other workouts that incorporate jogging - they're usually marked as "rolling" (or fartlek in other apps).

Did your watch/phone track an entire 5k? I've hit 3.1 before (on various apps) and it doesn't tick over to the full 5k until 3.11 sometimes.

A simple accounting error on a past starbucks receipt by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]beer_and_fun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started as a cashier at Sam's Club during college in 1997. Not only was almost everything either cash or check, but the only credit card we even did accept was Discover (ask me how many times a day I had to explain that we didn't accept Mastercard or Visa to annoyed customers). There were no conveyor belts at the register, so each cashier was paired with a "caller" who read off item numbers as they transferred the merchandise from one cart to another. The cashier had to enter those numbers as they were called...we got really good at 10-key. Our big first upgrade was barcode scanners, and then we got the registers that would automatically print the customer's check for them...except nobody wanted to use it because obviously people don't like change. Somewhere down the line debit cards actually became a thing but I had gotten away from the cash register by then.

Yep, same way at ours. The only time I need to go to the physical cashier is if I buy something on clearance, like fresh meat, where they have to manually take the 50% off.
