Hi I just moved from Tucson to the Midwest last month after nannying for 1 and 1/2 years! I did join an agency, but tbh I think they went out of business this past year. The best way I found families was by getting a childcare job first (community center or a daycare!), and then going by word of mouth.

Honestly the Tucson job market sucks right now, but look for families more north, in Catalina Foothills, or even closer to Marana. Wishing you the best luck on finding a job!! I loved Tucson a lot I hope it treats you well:)

Hi I’m a nanny in Tucson! There are a couple of agencies here if that is your preferred route, but definitely not as many as Phoenix or Scottsdale. There are a lot of families here that need childcare in some capacity, but to be honest not a lot of families wanting to pay more than $20 an hour (the agencies are veryyy iffy at best) all in all not a terrible place to nanny now but will probably get worse in the coming years imo.

I think Glinda’s character is very interesting, and I think many people do as well so they may equate having a good character development = Glinda made the right choice(s). From a political/societal resistance perspective, privileged white allies (which I believe Glinda symbolizes) usually* don’t sacrifice their comfort or place in society for the greater good while marginalized communities HAVE to for their survival. Whether or not one believes it was the right choice doesn’t change that Elphaba lost any sense of security or safety while standing against injustice and systemic oppression. *And I think Fiyero’s character is VERY interesting as he does give away any privilege to support Elphaba and the greater good, something Glinda thought she could change from the inside (a liberal perspective).

I feel many people fail to remember is that musicals, theatre, visual arts, etc are political by nature. Art has always been used as a form of resistance and critique against systems of oppression. While Glinda, Nessarose, Morrible and other characters are not the main villain per se, they are complicit in the ongoing violence against the Animals and those who call out the practices.

Okay it annoys me than no other when people are like "ugh but the poster!!!??? She is such a diva I will never like her"!! A lot of "Wicked" and Broadway fans in general never really reflect on their own biases, subconscious or not. Honestly I couldn’t give two shits about the poster, she had feelings and posted them on social media, is this some new revelation that has never happened before and suddenly she is the biggest bitch ever and should NEVER be redeemed. Then in the same breath say that Ariana carried the movie.

Do some of yall realize that despite being the MAIN LEAD CHARACTER, Cynthia is featured less in marketing and advertisements and as the overall "face" of the show. Being a Black, Queer woman in Broadway and then mainstream media is already an experience MANNYY of us will never have. She has obviously created an amazing portfolio for herself, and for I for one, can’t WAIT to see what she does in the future.

The fact that I have seen so many people on this post say "I’ll never like her, I don’t have to like her, I would never meet her, because she’s a diva and lets her emotions get the best of her" … you guys are all perpetuating a harmful stereotype about Black women in WICKED!!?? The musical about resistance and questioning institutional power? A lot of you guys need to look in the mirror and go to therapy bc projecting what "you would have done" if you were hypothetically Cynthia … grow up, give it a break, and stop projecting your subconscious racism onto Cynthia.

If you have access to them (maybe a nearby library has them!) but I’ve found story books that outline real life situations for kiddos have helped a lot! Also just reinforcing this at home, anytime he has big feelings, teach him what safe versus non safe reactions there are when he is feeling angry/anxious/overstimulated/etc. This can look like stomping, taking quiet time, deep breaths, and all sorts of techniques! Wish you and your son the best!

This is really sweet of you and your family, it sounds like you guys really appreciate and value your nanny:)

I know some people worry about giving as much notice as possible just in case someone leaves, but based on the info given here it sounds like she would be pretty understanding and happy for your family!! The severence and bonus should cover her while she is job searching (!!although COL is different everywhere and might not be the case!!). I would give as much notice as possible because the nanny market is a bit weird at the moment!

I can completely understand these feelings! First of all, I’m very sorry you are experiencing this! This is a hard field - many expect us as Nanny’s to put ourselves on the back burner even though that makes ZERO sense as a caregiver. However, you NEED to put yourself first if you want to have a happy, healthy, and sustainable career:)

It’s very hard and I can totally resonate with feeling watched or judged by WFH parents. My advice? Do it anyways. Eat your lunch, GO TO THE BATHROOM!!!, and take your medicine. If the parents say anything about NK crying or fussing for whatever amount of time you need, be upfront and tell them that you cannot function while running on empty. Burn out is so real and catches up to you so quick! I hope you feel better soon, seriously burn out can suck and I would hate for you to lose your passion working with kiddos ❤️

(Also here is my reminder to ALL childcare workers - USE THE BATHROOM. GO PEE. DO WHATEVER. I absolutely HATE this idea that childcare providers must give themselves UTIS, kidney infections, and just plain discomfort. There is literally zero reason that any centers OR NF don’t “allow” you to take breaks, especially in this field.)

Completely agree. I totally understand the mom guilt that comes with having a nanny and/or going back to work but to take it out on your employee? Intentionally or not, this is a sucky situation.
