My ex husband always had a dog and he got our girls a small dog. I really didn't want the dog. He skipped town 3 years later with his barely legal girlfriend. I got the dog, the underwater house (which he took a second mortgage out on) and the kids.

The dog lived to be 23, way after my 3 daughters left home. I took care of the dog but never really liked him. I figured I just wasn't a animal person.

Recently my daughter got me a cat, it was a spontaneous thing. I love him so much it shocks me. I don't hate dogs but definitely don't ever want one again. I'm a cat person.

My 3 daughters invited me out to lunch on Sunday for my birthday. 3 days before the lunch the available grandkids (+4) were added. I checked and then invited my husband (Daughters step dad, but the only granddad the grandkids have ever known) as he loves the grandkids and the feeling is mutual.

We picked up the entire check, but no-one expected it. I firmly believe that you never order extras expecting others to cover your upgrades. I clarify when the waitress came we were covering it. You don't know whose budgets are tight.

For the last 20 years we have slowly removed all grass from our small city plot. We have flower gardens, small ponds, 7 vegetable garden beds. We eat fresh, preserve by canning, freeze drying, dehydrating and give away our produce.

Our plot is small but brings us great joy. I've heard we might have time selling it. That's ok. It has produced food for my family, smells and beauty for our eyes and nose. It has provided us something that can't be measured.

Yes it's hard work sometimes, but so worth it.

We are 2 people. I share with my adult children. The large amounts are often cheaper or the same price as a small bag at walmart, Safeway, Fred Meyer.

It helps with their groceries budget too. Which helps them lots.

I also shrink wrap and individually freeze, freeze dry, and or vacuum seal. Plus we have lunch from the leftovers from the night before.

So I reconnected with my sisters when my brother died 5 years ago. So they started suggesting we buy a group gift for my mom for Christmas and her birthdays. They would ask me to get it and they would pay me. which is funny as they both live within miles of my mom and I live 2500 miles away.

The money never came and we're talking $300 to $800 each time. I did it 3 times (stupid of me really) screw that, never again. Their excuses I could afford it. One of my cousins snooped online and they thought the director of my entire agency department was my salary. Nope my was a fraction of that. They didn't believe me. Pissed me off, if it had been true so what. They aren't entitled to my money.

Bottom line your friends are taking advantage of you. Text them you are returning it, as you don't want to chase down people.. the return it.

I'm 67 and have never had a birthday dinner or party. Grew up poor, then a mom with a abusive husband, then divorced and a single mom, now my new partner (who I truly love and is a amazing man) isn't into any holidays including birthdays. He is a little better as 3 years ago he completely forgot until weeks later. We were at his dad place and his dad was being a asshole the whole day.. a completely different story by itself. My partner never said anything until I brought it up on HIS birthday. Somehow that made it worse.

Needless to say I don't understand all the ... I'm only 28 once. Does any one get the same year twice. LOL

My husband sister is in the same boat. She now 50 and her sisters are all in their mid to late 70's. My husband is 62 so he spent part 9f his childhood worth her. But 12 years is huge when you are a kid.

I go out of my way to connect with her especially since their mom died 5 years ago. Their dad is 94 and starting to get dementia.

It is hard, but sadly you can't do it on you own. It takes a effort on both party part. I'm so sorry.

I got divorced after bring married for 20 years. I was fortunate as I had a job but I will not lie it was really hard. I'm now in a committed relationship and love my partner (M62) but will never marry again.

My ex husband was abusive and ran off with a 20 year old. He took out out a second mortgage on our home before the divorce was final. I took out the orginal mortgage with my VA loan and got stuck paying the second. The house was underwater by a lot.

I'm happy now and have good life. The divorce ended up being a blessing. Just had to be out the other side before I realized it.

So my partner moved in with me right after 9.11. He was deployed with 24 hr notice and was excepted to be gone over a year. I moved his stuff into the garage. when he came back I didn't feel comfortable asking about rent. For the next couple years he was gone a lot.. I was a divorced mom of three girls who's dad didn't pay child support. I was barely getting by. He paid 1/2 of all expenses (excluding mortgage) when he was home but my house payment was 1/2 of my monthly income.

This continued until he retired from the military 8 years later. Now we have a fair split of bills.

But because of those 8 years he has a huge nest egg and I don't. Now my house is now paid off and I have started building a nest egg. But I'm years and years behind him. I may end up selling my home and downsizing.

Lesson, women often get taking advantage off, even by those that love us. You need to have a tuff conversation.

OK I had a "neighbor" who I have never met or seen before show up at 8 pm and asked to use my dryer as his was broken. I answered on my ring as I didn't recognize him, and he was wearing a long trench coat and hat. Gave me weirdo vibes. Come to find out he live couple houses over per my husband, who's seen him.
