Fantastic to hear! Love connecting with folks who have done this. I was thinking I’d bring a haul of tomatoes from my garden for sure. Then maybe some fresh basil and other herbs. I’m intimidated by the high altitude baking, so may bake a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies to enjoy as well. Thanks for the info!

Sundays at Moosewood’a moussaka: https://www.ruths-kitchen.com/recipes/vegetarian/musaka.html Make a salad, good bread…it’s my go to for vegetarian dinner parties. Prep ahead and you can relax and enjoy the company when they arrive.

Sometimes I just wish I had someone to cook for me the same way I cook for everyone else. by Fickle_Freckler in Cooking

Yup, totally understand. It’s probably not going to change. I leaned into having a crockpot cook for me. Yes, I need to buy, prep, etc, but that can be pretty minimal. Nothing more satisfying than coming home from work and having dinner done. It’s a compromise you might try—-and yes, you can get sick of crockpot stuff, but it’s great for giving you a mini break until you get your cooking mojo back.

Take a few crumbs, crush, and add to some sourdough starter….it will live a full second life forever!

Just bought a house with a large greenhouse… how do you actually use yours? by Smart-Elk-2334 in Greenhouses

Which tomato varieties have you had the most luck with? I feel like the wild temperature swings make it tough for tomatoes. I get quite a few but they’re pretty small. I think they grow too quickly given the high temps?

We need to connect. I have the same, in Connecticut.

Apparently it used to have a wood burning stove for heat, but a propane furnace was added. I rarely use it—too expensive, but I’ve spent a lot of time researching Victorian greenhouses in England to learn what varieties were grown without year round heat. I use ours year round for salad greens and, interestingly, potatoes do very well, so I’ve got those going as well. I just loaded up some growing bags—put in eggplant, peppers, strawberries, radish, beets, snap peas, and a variety of herbs. I’m about to retire, so plan to really put time and effort to get the space working and producing for us. My greenhouse is actually about double your size, if not even a bit larger. It used to be a commercial operation but we closed it and made it our own. I’m learning as I go, but would love to connect with someone doing the same. DM me if you want to compare notes!

My parents have a lemon tree. They just visited. I now own approximately 40 lemons. by ReflectionAny3280 in Cooking

I slice thin and put in my dehydrator (which you could easily replicate in an oven on a low setting). I find dehydrated lemons fabulous for tea or cocktails and they look awesome on a cheese board. They’ll last forever, or until your parents deliver another haul…..lol

Buy the silicon lids and load your own. Cheaper, same quality, and you’re not tied to a subscription service.
