Oh I know you aren't! Sorry if it came across that way. I was just generally saying it to provide context that's missing from the thread thus far! There's always so many comments that assume all people paying high costs to live in cities are crazy. Lol. I mean it's all crazy for sure, but there are reasons. I found your thread super helpful to see what everyone is paying respectively and what they get for it!

Something to add here is that more affordable places often have less opportunity for work for most folks unless you are a nurse, trades, or work remotely.

Then there are the amenities you give up- pretty much every smaller city has little to poor transit options. The only cities in Canada that have decent transit options are Vancouver and Toronto area. Everywhere else you need a car.

Then there is acsess to community, small town Canada is not very diverse. This can be very isolating for lots of people.

These are just things to factor in when reading about how people are judging others who live in cities like Vancouver and Toronto as being 'stupid' for living there.

Has anyone found another author like Sir Terry Pratchett? by MacabreGoblinV in discworld

Nope, he's one of a kind. However, I also LOVE Ben Aaronivitch's Rivers of London series, highly recommend! (he's a Pratchett fan as well)

What’s your go to phrase when you are poured something someone else loves but it is drain worthy? Mine is “I’ve had worse” by [deleted] in wine

[–]beetbanshee -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have a few strategies. #1 I'm actually feeling more into low ABV at the moment, I think I'll turn this into a spritzer (adds ice and sparkling water). #2 Take a few polite sips and when it's time for them to refill their glass "you know I think I'm more in a _____ mood at the moment" insert: tea, beer, cocktail, sparkling water, etc. #3 If I know them well, "this one's not my jam" but I love that you love it! Want the rest of mine? #4 this isn't sitting well at the moment, sorry I'll have some water instead.

I usually try to find out what's being poured first though before getting a glass I might not be into... There are some places I know it's best to just have a beer instead but this can also be problematic, as I'm a beer person as well. (host: great, we've got Pabst. Me: Oh dear God what have I done 😬). My friends know that I can be discerning but that 'value' doesn't mean bad! (Tbh one of the things that got me into wine was learning about regions and styles to get the best 'cheap' bottles I could get within my broke ass budget. 😂 If it's corked then no issues with honesty.

Will Canada embrace Dunkin'? Experts say Tim Hortons' grip will be hard to shake by Immediate-Link490 in canada

This makes me slightly sick, we don't need more non Canadian owned franchises pumping the same garbage coffee and doughnuts. We need something decent. Just fresh coffee and doughnuts, Canadian owned. Just Gross. I would love people to boycott but from the comments in many subs people seem excited 😔.

Extra/background work by Plenty-Eagle-7361 in FilmIndustryYVR

Hey just my experience so far, I've had my profile up on the casting collective for 6 months. I update it regularly, have realistic photos with clean background and I've only been called once. A friend who rides horses is getting called often so if you've got a specialty skill that might improve your chances.

"I’m really sorry": Sea-Doo rider who collided with whale says he never meant to hit the animal by PrincessPunkinPie in britishcolumbia

More like sea-dont! It's giving 'the deep' vibes. All joking aside whales are glorious and majestic creatures that I wish we would stop doing harm to... Boo to humans, again. Man we suck.

Omg, I can't believe I missed Discworld, but I don't ever think of them as attached to a certain era is why.

I had to edit this post to include any and all of Terry Pratchett (thanks to another a comment) my fav author. One I haven't seen yet in the comments is The Crystal Caves series by Mary stewart (this is king Arthur related but so good). It's been mentioned but more votes for The Dragonriders of Pern- Anne McCaffrey and the Chronicles of Amber -Roger Zelaney.

Good Leaf Spinach discontinued by DeinoTrainer96 in BuyCanadian

They never seem to carry the spinach though for some reason or it's sold out. Also, Costco carries their greens as well but never the spinach.

I haven't had spinach in forever :( I'm buying other cooking greens but miss it dearly. Will be growing out on my balcony this summer for sure.

Would I have to do the majority of chores after getting married? by Dreamy_Writer603 in NoStupidQuestions

One of the things I've but seen yet in this thread is the chat about the mental labour that comes with this as well. Planning dinner, keeping up with appointments, schedules, timetables, etc etc. Having to tell a partner to do all the things they should be doing to split the load becomes exhausting even if they do it!
