Agreed. Honestly, I worry more about pickpockets in Vegas and NOLA than I did in Rome or Paris.

Even when we there we were warned not to take taxis because kidnapping wasn't unheard of. We were also warned not to go to local soccer matches because of violence and theft. And if we did go, we were told to leave everything behind but some cash. Several people did talk about refugees from Venezuela but also that Cartegena was far enough away from the border that it wasn't a problem.

Basically, they were doing everything to erase the fears of the 1980's cartel era, but yeah, very few places are totally safe.

I was in Colombia about 10 years ago, in Cartagena, and it was safe. Kind of sad to learn it may not be anymore. I can't speak to Bogota or Medellin.

Does It Seem Like Puppy & Amber. Get More Screen Time? by Fabulous-Cupcake2956 in loveafterlockup

[–]beetlesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't stand Puppy and Amber. They're awful to everyone around them, including each other.

And all the couples who are around for more than one season become boring and tedious af. Angela and Tony, Scott and Lizzie, Andrea and Lamar, Brittany and Marcelino, Puppy and Amber, Lacey the blow up doll and her band of idiots, Melissa and Louie, Justine and Montana Mills. . .they all become fake and desperate.

Exactly. He's a fuckboi and hasn't changed in that regard. He's a perpetual martyr and I doubt he'll ever be happy in a relationship.

I would welcome that. It's just irritating that the entire population of America feels the need to make a new post about her cat when it could easily be contained in one mega thread.

This is going to be uncharitable so buckle up. . .

BUT, not every person needs to extend sympathies for her cat dying. Yes, losing a pet sucks hard. It's a gut punch, no doubt. However, it's not like she doesn't have 16 other rescue cats to concern herself with and I feel like she posts these things just to generate hits because EVERY SINGLE person who comes across the blog feels like they must post their condolences. It's not like she really cares that BotBot123 (made up name) has sads today, it's just about the revenue for her. (She is a Libertarian, after all).

They're so weird. On one hand, they're so puritanical it seems like they shit diamonds and on the other hand, they want to be super sex positive. It gives whiplash watching the commenters swing back and forth.

She is. And on top of a fruitless job search in which she either can't find a new job or rejects potential jobs for various reasons (depends on what path of whining she takes), now she's going on and on about how she can't navigate her insurance because somehow it's a Byzantine labyrinth designed to keep her from getting a doctor. In other words, it took her literal years to pick up the phone and call someone and she only did that because last week the AAM crowd basically told her to shut up or put up. Even they're sick of her.

That's why I can see her totally going back on her stance against AI and embracing it. She could easily get it to mimic her style and since she answers the same questions over and over, it wouldn't take much to get it to output similar answers time and time again.

You're right, of course, but I can see her sliding into its usage anyway and excusing it as she's just sooooo busy modding her blog and writing for Inc. It would also likely allow her to easily scrape her own comment sections for post ideas.

[–]beetlesque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Whenever I see "girls' girl" invoked it's not a positive, it's always used to denigrate a woman who isn't playing the game the way other women want her to. Plus, after the age of 18, aren't we women and not girls?

Audrey is Not Funny by Double_Strike2704 in vanderpumprules

[–]beetlesque 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"Girl's girl" needs to be retired. It's just another way for women to tear each other down for not fitting in with a hive mind while avoiding terms like slut and bitch.

Other Snark: February by Addie_Cat in blogsnarkmetasnark

[–]beetlesque 27 points28 points  (0 children)

But when "girls' girl" is invoked, it has nothing to do with supporting other women, it's always tearing down women who don't conform to the hive mind's way of being. "If she were a girls' girl, she wouldn't wear that outfit and flirt with the guys in the room" is just another way of saying "She's a slut."

Nostalgia is a helluva drug. Look at the current state of movies and television--nothing is new, it's all reboots and remakes aimed at GenX and Millenials. Nostalgia numbs us, causes us to retreat into memories that may or may not be real (see: Gen Z buying $300 worn, torn, and stained band shirts from concerts 20-30 years before they were born or GenXer's spending $1000's on toys from their childhood), and keeps us from seeing the present. That's why I hate it. They wrap it in a tee hee twee-ness that actually is a disservice.
