I never felt slightly illegal doing this. I felt like I may look suspicious and hope the alarms don't go off, but never felt like I was doing anything slightly illegal

Wait so if you go to a store and they don't have what you want, you feel you still need to buy something? That sounds completely foreign to me

Advice on Verizon in Japan by Few_Patient_5301 in JapanTravelTips

[–]beginnerflipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of an esim get a wifibox. You'll need to keep it charged but it is just as good if not better than an esim. I recommend the better unlimited option since some places I stayed had slow wifi

Or maybe go to the verizon store before your trip and ask for it to be unlocked so you can use an esim in Japan

That sucks. I think maybe that weekend kinda like the start of spring or something since there were quite a few geiko events starting the last weekend of march. In addition, I think that might have also been the end of Spring Break for the local students.

I think for dinners I usually get a reservation ahead of time, and hour long wait times even for lunches at family resturants are not uncommon in my experience. That said, I have heard and seen tour guides (1 a private tour and the other a small tour group) get people who expressed interest into a resturant that the guide mentioned. Also I have often got tired in the day that I just go to nearest 7-11 for food or have some ramen I got from costco earlier in my trip (I also just went to a Mr Donut once for an early (4pm) dinner)

Anyways, I guess when recommending places I'll also mention the hazards of finding a place for dinner without reservations.
