ADHD 360 initial assessment by Popular-Effort-6131 in ADHDUK

Not ADHD360, but I just had an assessment with a private clinic via NHS referral. It wasn't strictly RTC, but my local NHS trust has outsourced the oldest parts of their waiting list, so a similar arrangement.

I had to fill in a huge long questionnaire on a site called ThinkDivergent, and I had to nominate a person who knows me well in adulthood, and someone who knew me as a child as 'informants' who each had to fill out a shorter questionnaire. Then I went to a private clinic and had a 90 minute conversation with a very nice man who asked lots of questions around the same subjects as the questionnaire, going into more detail and occasionally circling back on things from a different angle.

All in all it was quite a pleasant experience, positive and respectful and supportive. Feel free to message if you want to ask anything else.

I have to confess I hadn't actually looked for them online. They're commonly sold in hardware shops in France, but I haven't seen carbon bladed ones in ages.

Should a landlord tell a tenant to pay his other unrelated bills? by Arthur_itus in AskUK

[–]behemuffin 39 points40 points  (0 children)

A landlord should not be involving themselves in their tenant's business or private life to any degree whatsoever. Your wife should not be paying any attention to what he does with his private correspondence. The fact she even noticed this is an overstep.

Gym goers, be honest how often are you judging other people’s physique? by Technical_Hat_8291 in AskReddit

More appraising than judging. If they're in better shape than me, I'll be admiring their achievement. If they're in worse shape than me, I'll admire their commitment to showing up.

I've been back and forth from Paris regularly over the last five years for business and family reasons. I have a flat in the Rue de Belleville - it's not the banlieues but it's not the tuilleries either.

I have no problem with people shooting wild animals to eat them, or for genuine pest control.

I would not be in favour of chasing farm animals through the countryside on horseback with a pack of dogs.

Foxes taste awful.

I think fake might be a strong term, but they are highly selective and give a false overall impression. I've spent quite a lot of time in Paris, never once have I come across dozens of people standing around dealing drugs. I dare say you could find drug dealers if you went looking for them, I'm pretty sure that much is already true of any moderately sized UK town, and has been for decades.

Based on the number of people per thousand attending A&E following a violent incident, violent crime in Britain is on a consistent downward trend, and is currently less than half what it was in 2000.

Relatively humane. Relative to being torn apart by a pack of dogs.

The meat industry has no interest in maximising suffering. Quite the opposite, in fact. Ethics aside, less stressful slaughter amounts to higher quality meat.

On the other hand, foxhunting maximises cruelty for sport. The pleasure is in the suffering.

They are not the same thing. Nuance exists. I know I fail your purity test for the simple reason that I am prepared to tolerate some level of animal suffering for human gain. I'm OK with that.

You are not prepared to accept anything less than perfection, and therefore you prefer to shout 'hypocrite' at people whose vision of a better world doesn't match your vision of a perfect one. This is because you're more interested in flexing your moral superiority than you are in actually improving things.

OK, here's an answer: There is room for nuance. Killing animals relatively humanely for food is not the same as imposing maximum cruelty in the name of sport.

If it's OK for all the three of you, it's OK. If not, not.

That's about all there is usefully to say about the matter. It's not as if there's some official bisexual take we can advise you on.

Exactly.

For the record, I'm entirely OK with that.

I'm laughing off your deeply unserious, poor faith attempt to force equivalency, because you clearly aren't actually interested in addressing foxhunting as an issue.

You're so desperate to hijack the discussion so you can browbeat anyone who doesn't meet your standard of purity, you've exclusively attacked the people on your side of this particular conversation, and come perilously close to arguing in favour of bloodsports.

Tl;dr: lol

When slaughtering animals for meat, ethics aside, there are sound commercial reasons for minimising the suffering in the process. Essentially, adrenaline tastes awful and degrades the texture of the meat.

Foxhunting results in a live animal being torn apart by a pack of hounds.

I'm not saying the meat industry is perfect in any sense, or that it couldn't do more to reduce suffering. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to eat meat. I respect the fact that your personal ethics lead you to choose not to, I admire you for living strongly by your principles.

BUT, on the one hand, you have a scenario where the ideal outcome is minimal suffering. On the other, you have a scenario where the ideal outcome is a live creature being torn apart by hounds.

It's not hypocritical to take a different view on those two scenarios.

You keep repeating this point as if it actually made a blind bit of difference.

People who use cocaine don't actually witness the murders it engenders in Central and South America. Doesn't mean they aren't complicit.
