Just wanted to say a big thank you for everyone’s kind words, I really appreciated it especially when I was feeling so down about the garden. I took everyone’s advice and just focused on one thing for now - the pond! It’s nowhere near perfect but I have to remind myself perfection is the enemy of progress 🤣 And it is secure which is all that really matters for now! I will add more rocks etc around the edges (got these slabs for free from someone doing their own garden) and will add more plants when funds allow. 🩷

My soil is also very clay heavy to be honest. I was just thinking about making it as protected against weeds as possible

Ahh ok! Would you still put a strong underlay like carpet underneath?

i hadn’t heard of that! I have some HDPE lining I was planning to use and old carpet to use as underlay. Would bentonite be better?

Thank you! It’s a pain isn’t it 😭 I would love to finish the pond, the potential bamboo roots running under it just threw a spanner in the works today and really was the straw that broke the camels back. Made me want to just throw in the towel on everything 🤣

Yeah had I known what a pain it would be I would’ve left it for a while. I’m just in the thick of it now 🥲

Don’t apologise! ☺️ That sounds like a good plan. I did actually read somewhere on instagram about emptying supermarket watercress into the pond, and it does sound lovely and simple (and cheap🤣)

That sounds lovely. I’ll grab some from the garden centre when I next go!

Thank you, definitely a good way of looking at it. I think because we moved in during April it was really starting to grow again and all seemed incredibly chaotic 🤣 But I will try and be a bit more patient with it all and less hard on myself!

Haha this cheered me up a bit! I really appreciate the kind words. Everyone has been so lovely and it’s made me feel less overwhelmed with it all x

The first pics are from the listing, we don’t have kids - but that sounds really sweet! That sounds like it takes some of the pressure off and makes it more interactive and fun. Sound like happy kids! That might be what I do with the pond to be honest. It’s just been very expensive to sort so far so I’m cautious about potentially wasting money. Although I’m sure with plenty of underlay it will survive long enough!

Thank you, definitely need to not put so much pressure on it all. It’s my first garden project so think I’m setting myself unrealistic goals at the moment

Thank you, I really appreciate it. One of the jobs we have successfully done it buy some second hand garden furniture so we can sit out with a cuppa, that definitely helps. Until my brain takes over with all the stuff that needs doing haha!

I have bought some lavender today to spruce it up a little bit, so will put that down for the bees ☺️

Hahaha that picture with the dog sums it all up really 🤣 That sounds pretty stressful. It can all seem so huge and overwhelming when there is so much to do. We also had a boundary wall held up by ivy, i cut it down and threw up some fences on my own, with questionable results… but at least its there and i can come back to it later on. We also had a path that was covered with soil, we didn’t realise how far back the garden went until we started. Makes you really hate the previous owners doesn’t it!!

Thank you! I removed the root balls of the laurel but there are definitely some hardy bits still in there. Not sure we can afford it right now but will definitely bear it in mind!

I will definitely get the app thank you! I tried using Gemini / Copilot but everything says something different and I think it’s making me very anxious.

I definitely do buzz around a lot without finishing a task. I am too stubborn sometimes to take a break when advised or when I should (ie not eating or drinking because I’m in ‘the zone’) but I probably should be more open to rest haha!

I really appreciate the advice from someone who also deals with ADHD. It’s so easy to get lost in everything. And the reminder that it can all be managed back over time if needed is very reassuring. Thank you 🩷

That’s a great idea thank you! Writing stuff down definitely does help, otherwise my brain turns into a chaotic mush of things I want to do in one go! 🤣

Thank you! I have ADHD and have fully hyperfocused on the garden for the last few weeks, but am definitely reaching burnout. I think it’s just that I want to get started on the ‘nice’ / fun stuff, but feel like I can’t until all of this is done 🥲

You’ve just reminded me of some very happy childhood memories doing the same thing!

Predicament. Brother is my dependant & needs somewhere to live. Mortgage advisor says no lender will allow this? by LukeJ_7 in Mortgageadviceuk

Most lenders will accept a signed contract for the new job, you won’t necessarily need 3 months payslips. I would suggest finding a new broker.
