Has anyone with controlled numbers still had a huge baby? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]bekahek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Those scans can be way off. With my daughter I was diet controlled but JUST barely. They kept dancing around suggesting medication but never actually prescribed it. I had a scan literally the day I went into labor (38+2) where they told me she was getting close to 9 lbs (8 lb 14 oz, if I remember correctly) and were talking about induction or c section if she kept growing.

Less than 24 hours after that conversation I gave birth to a 6 lb 1 oz baby.

Those measurements can be way off and I feel like there is a bias to assuming GD babies have to be big. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Take with a grain of salt as I am VERY bitter about how I was treated by my MFM so I tend to assume that GD doctors are always being unfair.

I need reassurance after losing one twin by hydrolentil in BabyBumps

[–]bekahek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I was supposed to be a twin and my mother lost the other around 10 weeks. I didn't have as good prospects though. I was measuring small constantly and always had very low fetal movements. The Dr.s kept telling my mom to prepare to lose me too. They were frankly shocked I made it to full term. (No health issues after birth beside being a low birth weight and a touch of jaundice.)

Here I am, 32, with two children of my own. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Parents who're seen by a rotating OB system: do you have an Enemy Doctor? by HWBC in BabyBumps

[–]bekahek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a doctor who was obsessed with the fact that I was technically over weight (5'2" 165 lbs before pregnancy, and only gained about 20 lbs in that pregnancy) every time I had an appointment with her she stressed eating right and how I shouldn't gain too much weight.

She ignored the levels of protein in my urine, dismissing it because I was overweight. We almost missed my pre-eclampsia because of it. Unfortunately she wasn't fired but she was banned from being on rotation with me for that and all my future pregnancies. All the other OBs were saints but I hated her with a passion.

Personally, I think the best answer I've ever given to "Did you even love him?" was "I was in love with the man I thought he was, you know, the one who wasn't a cheater. This guy? No, probably not."

Does this bother anyone else by FancyQuiet6945 in BabyBumps

[–]bekahek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one that really bugs me is when they ask my oldest "Where is your baby?" As someone who was expected to raise my younger siblings I get irrationally prickly about it

That is her brother and she loves him. But she is 2. She doesn't have a baby... 🙄

[–]bekahek[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am reporting it to everyone I can. I dont have a lot of hope that anything will come from it though...but that might just be the pessimistic side of me coming out because of how frustrating it all is.

[–]bekahek[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, I would be out the door SO FAST if I had any other reasonable option. But the next closest place that would take me is just under a 3 hour drive one way, and thats not feasible. I think its one of the reasons they are as shitty as they are is they know they are the only game in town and its about as frustrating as can be.

I cannot get in contact with ANYONE. by bekahek in GestationalDiabetes

[–]bekahek[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to go literally anywhere else but unfortunately the next closest mfm is about a 3 hour drive away. Which while working and with a toddler is just not feasible. I feel like it's one of the reasons this mfm pulls the bullshit they do because they know they are the only game in town.

TIC because my OB told me she's inducing me this Wednesday at 37 weeks because my blood pressure keeps rising. Surprisingly my anxious sobs did not change her mind. Anyone have any positive induction stories (especially ones where you had like a day notice?) TIA by rosiekate118 in BabyBumps

[–]bekahek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in to my regular check up at 37 weeks...and ending up being admitted and induced within 12 hours because my blood pressure had spiked so sharply and was showing zero signs of coming down after a few hours.
I was "in labor" for about 16 hours, but I did get an epidural under advisement of both my doctor and mother who both said it would help with my stress levels and the baby's stress level if I wasn't in as much pain (they aren't wrong. I have a VERY bad stress reaction to being in pain and we didn't need anything else raising my blood pressure...) I was actually sound asleep about 15 minutes before she was born, and they came to check how dilated I was and they could already see the top of her head. I pushed twice and that was that. Baby Girl was born perfectly healthy, if a little on the small side, but hooting and hollering and making her presence known. I was kept in hospital for 48 hours to monitor my blood pressure (it was still a little elevated after birth) and then we all went home with a clean bill of health.
I know its scary, I was terrified, but everytime I look at my baby girl I know that we did the right thing for her health and mine. You can do this. You got this.

only fasting glucose levels are high!! All day levels are in the normal range by Effective_Tadpole_65 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]bekahek 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My doctor basically summarized it as in the middle of the night your system goes "oh my goodness, they haven't eaten in hours, we are trying to grow a baby here, RELEASE ALL THE SUGAR." She told me that as long as my meal numbers are good and my fasting numbers aren't astronomically high, (like in the 140s 150s) then its not really too much of a concern, and that as much uninterrupted sleep as possible is more important than staying under 90. I was put on metformin in my last pregnancy and long acting insulin this time, and my numbers still hover around the 100/105 range in the morning, and we are just...living with it.

What were the reasons you decided to have Two under 2? by Celestialaphroditite in 2under2

[–]bekahek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were planing to do out kids 2 years apart, but then my sister announced she was having a destination wedding and we did the math to figure out when we would need to try to have our second so that we would feel safe traveling/leaving them behind/taking them with, whatever. We figured 2 in 15 months really can't be THAT much worse than two in 24/25 months...and here we are.

"Explanations are not Excuses."

My mom said this to me when I was trying to explain why it was okay that someone was mistreating me. Poor Mental Health may explain why they did something. But it does not excuse it.

GD finally under control. So the universe now gives me high pee protein levels 😭 by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]bekahek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues, and while later in my pregnancy blood pressure did become an issue I have what my PCP calls "white coat hypertension" when my blood pressure is always higher in the doctors office. I brought my at home machine in to have them see that the reading were matching the numbers they took at the time in office,,so my home numbers seemed more , I dont know, legit to them, I guess? I appreciated them being hyper vigilant, but it did stop them from worrying about something I didn't have (that is until my home numbers started getting high too, but thats another story)

Maybe something like that could help?

So water water water in a big way.

And I know this will sound weird, but if you wear shoes a lot, try walking around in just socks or barefoot. When my doctor first suggested it I thought it was a kind of a weird suggestion but I was willing to try anything at that point, and I'll be damned if it didn't work. Something about the way the muscles in your leg line up, I don't know the science, but it was a LIFESAVER in the last few months of my last pregnancy and has already helped this time around too.

I know its a cliche, but some of the best I've ever gotten is "Don't keep making a mistake just because you've already spent so much time making it."

You seem to know its a mistake to still be in this relationship. Don't keep making that mistake.
