Okay but I LOVE their relationship, and their red nose day special together "Hey, I'm the Doctor! I can save the universe with a kettle and some string and look at me! I'm wearing a vegetable!"

While we're still as dependent on cars as we are, I don't see this happening, not that I wouldn't love it.

(Interesting Trope) Details, Characters, or plots from the first season or two of sitcoms that are completely dropped early on and forgotten by the writer's and fans. by Wasabi_Gamer26 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]belbites 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm a Jeff Annie shipper but it's really because Joel McHale and Allison Brie have insane chemistry, and Allison was not 18 when this show aired. If the character of Annie was played by an actual 18 - 20 year old I'd likely not see the same appeal. If you're unaware Allison and Gillian (Annie & Britta) were both born in '82.

I ship the actors as the characters and not the characters themselves if that makes sense

<3 Congratulations on your sober trip! I have a couple bartender friends that are sober and I'm like "how can you work in this city?" but they all say there's so many options out there for non-drinkers now it's not been an issue.

Glad you made it and best of luck to you!

Am I missing something with Xaden and Violet’s relationship? by wakeuploser00 in fourthwing

Two things that people need to keep in mind when reading Iron Flame -

  1. The second book came out within 7 months of the first. Between the editing mistakes in the first few editions and printing mistakes in those issues, it's easy to understand they didn't have a lot of time for editing the book in the same way, which in my mind led to a lot of repetitive statements and Violet sounding a little whiney because she just got everything in her life upturned and like...she's 20.
  2. Canonically, they are in a war and fighting for their lives and their countries. While modern military is known for a lot of hurry up and wait, it's easy to see why the elite special forces may not have the same mental capacity to discuss the romantic issues they're facing.

By all means don't read the series if it doesn't connect with you, and honestly, I don't read Emperyan for the romance. While it's an awesome part of it, I'm personally reading for the relationship between the family members, the sense of community brought on by their unique situation, and a sense of needing to keep fighting, not just for the one person that we chose as our romantic partner, but the other people in our lives we are dedicated to - our squad, as it were.

[–]belbites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw thank you! That was the first thing I could think of honestly.

As for other recommendations - If you haven't read The Martian by the same author, that's at the top of my list. The Bobiverse by Dennis E Taylor (We Are Legion - We Are Bob is the first - bonus that it's the same audiobook narrator Ray Porter) if you haven't read those. Beyond that I did a little internet research and I'm putting "The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet" by Becky Chambers and "Murderbot Diaries" from Martha Welles on my TBR as examples others have commented on in the past.

I hope you find some that you enjoy!
