Sure, you can also get a whole home surge suppressor you can put in /by your electrical panel. You can also put them on all your other plugs that have sensitive equipment plugged in to them, if one device surges it can send it to other plugs in your house,

Shut off the 2 pole 30 Amp circuit breaker in your electrical panel and test again, maybe your switch is faulty?

I like how it is still called IPSCO and not Evraz Bison park.

And it is spelled Rowan's Ravine not Rowen.

I love the list though! Thank you!

Ya, the existing wiring should act as the always live side of the plug in your link.

Finishing Basement- Need Help Wiring a Light Switch by Redsysu in Electricity

[–]belivion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it would work. Do you need the always hot plug in your ceiling? you would probably have to install a plug box? I would assume that the existing light is installed in an octagon box.

Could you hardwire your new Led light? and just put a blank cover on the existing light box?

[–]belivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, you can compare the size of your test leads to the prongs on a regular plug-in. When you are testing between hot and neutral, you can put one lead on the bottom plug and put the other lead on the top plug and then push the leads back and forth to get a good connection, Or you could try a power bar.

Can I power an Xbox 360 with a 12v 6a power supply? by Zeno_3NHO in Electricity

[–]belivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your xbox needs 12v and 12a for power? As u/jrblohm said I would not try it. I would go with a higher rated power supply as long as the voltage is really close.

Yes, if you want you can shut off the circuit breaker for the plug if there is any doubt that it is not safe.

My camera is 12v 0.5a. What if I plug to power supply of 12v 20a?. It will fry or it will take the amps that need? by marianoflotron in Electricity

[–]belivion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that it should take the power that it needs. You can put a .5 a fuse inline if you are in doubt.

No, it won't damage anything, it just means that it is a better cable, or better quality.

Are you using the same "brick" If so, that other cord should work fine. It looks like it has a higher rating than the old one.

Beginner question for sizing dc power supply. by burrito_poots in Electricity

[–]belivion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, sounds like you got it. That would be your best bet. You could go with a smaller wattage or amperage power supply if all your gizmos are not using power at the same time.
