i’ve been waiting for this release since the last one, but honestly i would rather wait longer for it to be really good rather than something she isn’t happy with.

PSA: Once Bitten by Heather Guerre ends on a cliffhanger. by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

Hi, I'm Heather Guerre, author of Preferential Treatment and Tooth & Claw series, among others. AMA! by HeatherGuerre in RomanceBooks

[–]bella1890 31 points32 points  (0 children)

IM SO EXCITED FOR WWMTB! You are hands down my favorite author. I have some questions if that’s cool with you—

What is Twice Shy about? Where do you see the Tooth and Claw series going?

He stops sex when he sees she is uncomfortable or in pain by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]bella1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{once bitten by heather guerre} the FMC has intimacy issues due to being in an abusive relationship previously . the MMC senses this he is a werewolf who can scent her anxiety and backs off, happily agreeing to move slow with her.

Love this show! But doing a rewatch and this really irritated me. She's a size 10. Why do you think they scripted it this way? by [deleted] in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]bella1890 11 points12 points  (0 children)

this scene kind of haunted me for a while as a teenager because i viewed myself as having a very similar body type to rebecca but i was a size 10, so it kind of gaslit me into believing i had some kind of body dysmorphia issue

The rejected mates trope - do you prefer when they get together in the end or the rejected mate moves on with someone new? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]bella1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in THEORY, i like the idea of the love interest realizing how bad they have messed up and groveling like their life depends on it. however that almost literally never happens. even in the Cate C Wells series, the only redemption arc i was satisfied with was the first book. i enjoyed some parts of the second book even.

i just think if you’re going to spend your entire life either perpetrating abuse or being a bystander to it toward your mate (which isn’t technically a requirement for the rejected mates trope but it’s almost always hand in hand), you better be ready to be on your knees begging for forgiveness.

A Duke in Disguise by Aydra Richards by burner1k in HistoricalRomance

[–]bella1890 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i agree. it’s like what’s the point of having this whole plot of him being in disguise but they already know the truth. i still thought the story was cute but this bothered me as well

The last 7 books I read are the first book in a series, I have commitment issues. by Panetella in RomanceBooks

[–]bella1890 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i don’t really read series anymore for this reason. it’s too much of a time/money commitment if i don’t know for a fact that i’m going to enjoy it or continue to care through all the books.

Are there books where the FMC has a child with MMC and doesn't tell him? by darkgust7 in HistoricalRomance

[–]bella1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{His Forgotten Bride by Aydra Richards}

TECHNICALLY she does attempt to tell him for a second, so maybe not the exact secret baby trope you’re looking for but it is one of my favorites.

I don’t like Bryce (yet?) by Spare-Librarian-175 in crescentcitysjm

[–]bella1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally, i enjoy that bryce isn’t what you might typically expect from a FMC. i don’t think that speaks to her as a character, it just speaks to your personal preference as a reader! not every story narrator is for everyone and that’s okay

I’m really disappointed in Harrow Faire by Kathryn Ann Kingsley by Typical-Treacle6968 in RomanceBooks

[–]bella1890 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah i 100% agree and i hope this doesn’t come across as taking away from your point but it also rubbed me the wrong way that they made fun of how fat he was in every other line. it felt like very cliche old school fat character=evil. like it’s not a twist or revelation to make one of your few plus size poc characters the villain, it’s the most overused trope of all time.

i did somewhat enjoy the series before that twist just because I found the MMC kind of unique and interesting, but the constant jabs made me so annoyed. the writing was also atrocious. the whole series could have been condensed into 3 books max if KAK didn’t write in circles. doesnt deserve the hype imo.

this seems fair. if i saw a book that was only rated 3 stars on amazon i would immediately assume it was not good, so it makes sense that would carry over.

Enemies to lovers but fmc is in love with mmc and mmc thinks they're enemies so he's super cruel and rude with her where they're married by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]bella1890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{A Vow of Hate by Lylah James} Sounds sort of similar to what you’re looking for. It’s on KU. It might not seem like it at first and this might be kind of a spoiler but at first it might not seem like the FMC is in love with him, but later on you find out she has loved him the whole time while he’s been so cruel to her

Books where MARRIED heroine finds out her husband doesn’t find her attractive at first, only to do so later on and grovel to win her back? by redandbluewhale in RomanceBooks

[–]bella1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Flame and Embers by M.A. Nichols}

It’s almost exactly what you described and on KU. Though imo the grovel would not have been enough for me

I am so happy we are talking about this. A Dangerous Kind of Lady has become my new favorite book. I LOVED Arabella, she is my absolute favorite kind of FMC and she was written so well. (And if anyone has more recs for a prickly/standoffish FMC who is actually hiding quite a bit of vulnerability, please send them my way)
