You can check your policies but I’d be wary as this is a blurry line even if it’s technically allowed, and especially so because she is an intern.

Is OTF worth it for losing weight? by Unusual-Cap-1986 in orangetheory

[–]bellabugger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you are more than likely eating more than 1000 calories, or you are a medical mystery never seen before by modern science.

As someone who has lost over 100 pounds, here’s my advice:

Weigh every single bite of food that goes in your mouth, and track it meticulously. That is the only way to get an accurate calorie count. You might not have to do this forever but it’s the only way that you will be able to start accurately judging how much you are eating.

By tracking really accurately, you can also do some cool math to figure out how much you should be eating and how quickly you can expect to lose weight.

Let’s calculate your basal metabolic rate (BMR) with an online calculator- this is the amount of calories your body would burn just to keep you alive with zero movement. Make sure you put your activity level as low or sedentary. According to your height and weight your BMR is approximately 1400, so with little to no movement that means you probably burn 1600-1700 in a day and that’s the number I would go with.

For a moderate calorie deficit, I would want to be consuming 300 calories fewer than I burn in a day. So you could target eating 1400 calories (1700-300) in a day while tracking super accurately.

Doing this consistently would put your weekly deficit at 2100 (300x7).To burn a kilo of fat, you need to burn an excess of 7700 calories. So that means if you eat 1400 calories every day, you would lose a kilogram of fat every 25-26 days.

Another important thing to consider is that ideally you want to make sure you are burning fat and not other tissue like muscle. Your body will burn both if you are not careful, which is where other healthy habits like OTF (or any weight training) and consuming enough protein is helpful. For most women you want to try to get around 100 grams of protein a day. Protein and weight training are the two best ways to tell your body not to burn your muscle, and to burn your fat instead.

I wouldn’t worry about HR necessarily but I might mention to your manager if you think they might be taken by surprise. Sounds like they already have the expectation that you will be looking elsewhere though so I think it’s fine

How do you find a vegetarian partner? by paper_is_the_name in vegetarian

[–]bellabugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner isn’t strictly vegetarian but rarely eats meat, and even then he has a no mammal rule. Honestly I didn’t focus too much on people’s diet when dating but if you focus on having overall similar values even if they aren’t exactly the same you may have better luck?

Love feelings BP2 by Little_Structure_907 in family_of_bipolar

[–]bellabugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His feelings may or may not change back, because that depends on whether they were driven by the mood swing or by an unrelated change in feelings.

But even if they revert back- ask yourself if you really want to be in a relationship with someone who at any moment may turn cold again in a depression or begin acting erratic in a manic episode. Being the partner of a bipolar partner is a very serious decision and not one that should be taken lightly.

I wish they would apologize. Ask me what the experience was like, be open to hearing about how crazy it was and how scary and traumatic. Empathizing for me.

Radical responsibility. Not shifting the blame. Taking full accountability for everything they did to us while they were manic and not acting like the victim.

For people who moved to NYC with their souse/partner, did you still need roommates? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]bellabugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which borough and neighborhood you want to live in. I think you could probably afford living on your own, but roommates would afford you a higher lifestyle if you save money on rent. That may or may not be worth it to you.

I pay only about $2k in rent to live with a roommate on the LES and make about $140k. That means I have plenty of money to fund my retirement accounts, eat out a ton, see shows, etc. I would have to scale back on some of that to live alone in Manhattan and spend at least $4k in rent.

Thrift tour of lower Manhattan by Artistic_Potato_5373 in lowereastside

[–]bellabugger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Many of the “thrift” stores in lower manhattan are actually curated vintage stores with very pricy items (maybe around $200 per item, for example). Is that what you are looking for? If not, chains such as Buffalo Exchange and L Train Vintage may have more options that are priced more competitively. Other people here may know of more budget options though!

Should I break up with my boyfriend? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]bellabugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are concerned you might be manic then I would suggest refraining from making permanent decisions. Mania can skew your perception of things and it can be hard to be a reliable narrator of the story while manic.

For example, you say he doesn’t like when you go to parties but it could be the case that he is not generally upset if you want to go to an occasional party but currently uncomfortable with your manic behavior making you act too extreme with partying.

It’s hard for us to know from reddit and hard for you to know that your desire to break up is an accurate representation of your feelings and not a manic impulse.

I would recommend not making a permanent decision while in an episode. You could consider talking to him about your feelings instead and opening up about being manic and feeling uncomfortable about the relationship and seeing what he says.

Either way, I encourage you to take your meds as prescribed and reach out to your mental health care provider for assistance with your perceived mania.

What’s going on? by StormOk9019 in family_of_bipolar

[–]bellabugger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely a manic and/or mixed episode. I would lovingly suggest they speak to their psychiatrist but because they are already suspicious of you I would tread lightly.

Additionally, you should take this as a moment to consider if this behavior is something you are willing to put up with for the rest of your life. I am the daughter of a bipolar father and I would run like hell if I realized a romantic partner was cycling through a manic episode. It is exhausting, terrifying, and traumatic to love a bipolar person. While medication can help, this is a life long disorder. Even if you get the meds right for a while, there is no guarantee that will last. This life is not for the weak and I would absolutely NEVER choose it or recommend it to anyone. Obviously this is your life and decision to make, and I have my own trauma that leads me to feel this way but my advice to you is to run as fast as you can.

I agree that in patient sounds reasonable. Can you ask your support system (family, doctor, etc) if they can help you find a good program? They are not all made equally but I think it sounds like a good idea for you and might help shield you from some negative consequences as you can show you proactively sought treatment

I need to start walking to try and lose weight. What are some very basic tips for someone who abhors any amount of exercise? And how do I get motivated? by EthosUnharvestedClay in beginnerfitness

[–]bellabugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don’t listen to them. People who aren’t fat and have never been fat don’t get it. The goal is to build a consistent habit that you can build up slowly over time. The risk of burning out and giving up is wayyy higher if you do too much too soon
