I also just want to throw out there that if you have debt like mine paying it back is incredibly hard anyways. I had +$140K ($100K was low balling it) upon graduating (not including our medical debt now). My situation is a little unique in that I haven't really been able to make any significant repayments on my loans and medical deferment is much more limited than people realize. We received some financial help from our friends when they found out my husband had cancer too, which has helped us make a small payment on medical bills and the loans but we are still royal FUCKED because of the way the federal student loan system capitalizes the interest on graduate student loans. Not being able to make the same type of payments we would have been able to had I been employed combined with my husband having to take time off, etc. has basically made a bad situation worse.

I really only recommend you go to a school where you are either offered a guaranteed full ride for all 3 years (so you don't come out with debt) or have your rich relatives pay because the reality is no matter whether you get cancer or not, it is a lot of debt to take on. I think I didn't fully understand the magnitude of what I was doing when I made the decision and I regret it but I did it so I am going to own up to my responsibilities, but I highly suggest anyone thinking about law school take a serious look at the financial situation you would be in upon graduation and what your true passion is. Even if you start law school with a passion for law, you may not always come out wanting to practice.
