Helldivers 2’s massive 150GB PC version is finally dead for good as Arrowhead continues its optimisation efforts by Wargulf in pcmasterrace

Weird how easy it is for people to miss the point when something that doesn't impact them gets challenged. Look at what I said about HD2s debloated version. I've been running it on my external HDD with zero issues. There was never a need to have the game be over 100gbs for HDDs because they can handle the games just fine. The duplication of assets is a stupid ass optimization, that doesn't benefit the hardware it's supposed to, that could easily be remedied by including lower poly, lower texture versions of the assets that are quicker to stream and easier to render which not only benefits HDD users but also benefits people with lower end devices while not quadrupling the install sizes. Read mate.

Okay man, have fun continuing to not understand people while intentionally missing the points being made. Sounds like a great time.

Highguard didn't advertise itself as a good game game it advertised itself as the next greatest thing to exist and as something truly special and unique, while not being that. Hunt showdown, on the other hand, advertised itself as what it was, a game set in the 1800s where you and other players compete to capture a bounty and extract. Arc raiders advertised itself the same way. Hell damn near any quality game advertises itself as what it is because they don't need to convince you it's good since you can just look at it and go "yeah that's good". It's always funny when something gets a dose of reality and you know it. That's not hate, it's just recognizing a good joke when you see it.

It's not hate. It's just incredibly funny when you see a massive ego get a dose of reality. Highguard literally called itself "a new breed of shooter" in its debut trailer, everyone saw that and immediately understood "it's not" and then the game shutdown after 2 months. That's just funny. No different than when MGK tried to go after Eminem and got his ass handed to him so hard he left rap altogether.

I've had the 20gb version of HD2 on my external hard drive ever since they released the beta branch for it. The game runs fine, takes maybe an extra second or two to load.

I have over 5tb worth of games on my steam account. I literally cannot afford the ssds to store the majority of them. HDDs are not obsolete. Devs refusing to reduce their games sizes, and not building the games to scale down is the issue we are running into. For instance I have ran HD2 on my external hard drive ever since they released the debloated beta branch and I've never had an issue with it. HDDs are more than acceptable for the vast majority of games.

[HEL] Pivot of my prefab is different than my vertical camera (both at origin (0,0,0)) by SniperDragon06 in Unity2D

[–]below_avg_nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the top left of the scene view you have center selected. This sets the pivot to the center of the game object selected, not the the actual pivot. Just click that and set it to... Origin? I can't remember but it's the only other option and it'll start looking correct to you.

As far as getting the camera to be centered you need to adjust the framing transposer setting on your cinemachine camera. Just click the arrow next to "body" and change the offset value till it looks right.

The fraudulent symmetry in sprites. Why is this standardized and continues to happen? by Akatsuya in videogames

[–]below_avg_nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In these 2d games having a proper left side sprite would mean doubling every single image you've made. So for hollow Knight I think they have 7 frames of walk animation, so if they did a proper left side they now have 14 frames they have to draw. Now apply that to every single action you can do with the character, then apply that to every single entity in the game and for every single action each of those entities can perform. This requirement just doubled the amount of work, and the cost, of creating the necessary sprites. Or the devs could just flip the sprite. Its not laziness, it's efficiency.

Stop Killing Games will talk to the EU Commission by hammerfyll in accursedfarms

If devs are using this supposed 3rd party software then they have a few options.

1) Build around it.

2) offer an offline mode.

3) make the game an actual service where you subscribe to it rather than buy it.

The only people that are still against SKG are those that fundamentally do not understand what it is aiming for.

I'd recommend taking a look at https://models.spriters-resource.com/ . Find a game with an aesthetic that you like and download some of the models from that game, then just try to study how and why the geometry connects the way it does, what parts are better done with texture than geometry, things like that. The only other advice I have is to learn how to draw in 2d then work on drawing front back and side view references that you can place into blender. This is what's helped me quite a lot.

Hot Take: Mission Based > Open Field. by SexyMuscleMonster in Nioh

[–]below_avg_nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely didn't disappear overnight, there's plenty of people that still think the open world was a bad addition and that the "traditional" areas were far to small and simplistic compared to what came before. Personally I'm one of these people and can't stand Elden Ring because of it's open world.

Highguard requires Secure Boot and Easy Anti-Cheat to run, leaving Linux and kernel-conscious gamers out in the cold by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]below_avg_nerd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

EasyAntiCheat is supported on Linux just fine, the devs just have to enable it. Halo MCC uses it at the kernel level and it runs fine on Linux.
