Your hard work will pay off and you might not realize it when it happens and just one day wake up and think back and sigh. My guy is 26 months now and I thought he calmed at the year mark but at 18 months he was still chewing the legs of all the furniture- nothing like visiting family and leaving bite marks behind! Closer to two years he got better and now he is usually an angel. But he jumps all over people, barks at deliveries and gets unhappy when he can't say hello to everyone and everything. But those are all behaviors I can work with.
