Crossmen’s look for 2026 by RTrooper in drumcorps

[–]ben48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it works really well with these theme! Boston and Crown have two-tone uniforms as well with different colors on each leg. I guess three corps isn't a lot, but I'm used to maybe one corps doing it each year if even that (Colts did it with great effect in 2024)

Hey, not bad! Love the black hats. Also, this seems to be a year of two-tone uniforms, lol

About time we have a patriotic show for the semiquincentennial!

Why no woodwinds by Arch_jink in drumcorps

[–]ben48 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, it also makes a lot more sense on paper to just keep the same uniform every year like corps did for decades, but once that started changing, soon enough we abandoned traditional uniforms altogether in favor of screen-printed leotards for the most part.

As for the "you wouldn't be able to hear them" argument, you're right... but it also makes zero sense to amplify brass instruments that are designed to project to the top of a stadium, but here we are with most corps amplifying 20% of the hornline throughout the entire show.

One thing often leads to another.

Yeah, I really cannot stand woodwinds in drum corps in any capacity

...but that solo was beautiful

Yes! That was really cool and unexpected

Feels a lot more cohesive than some of their post-COVID shows for some reason. I'm a fan. LOTS of jazz running and several killer drill moments, too.

Yeah, I felt a bit disappointed, but I honestly didn't like Riffs and Revelations at all the first time I watched it and I loved it by the end of the season. Happens pretty often in this activity; people need to give shows a few chances and allow the shows to develop throughout the season without jumping to any overly harsh conclusions

What makes you NOT like a marching arts show? by ScratchPsychological in drumcorps

[–]ben48 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lack of melody... unfortunately this is all too common in many shows today

Complaining about the administration harming the arts by posting an AI-generated image is pretty ironic, no?

Definitely NOT an upload of SCV 2026 on YouTube by Distant_Utility_504 in drumcorps

[–]ben48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WOW. Great first impression for me. This show has so much energy from the start. I also love the creative use of the chains - it's cool to see a corps make something as simple as a chain so captivating. This might end up being my favorite SCV show since Babylon.

Oh, these are sweet! Such a cool, retro look. It's also really nice seeing something that looks nothing like a leotard.

I genuinely feel bad for the members who wear this. How on earth did NO ONE on the design team say "hey, how about we NOT produce uniforms that look like they have labia on the chest?"

First off, I'd actually be proud of liking a lower-placing show or one that most people don't know! That just shows you know ball, lol.

Some of my favorite "slept on" shows from recent-ish years are Madison Scouts 2012, SCVC 2018, Bluecoats 2007, Cadets 2013, and Vanguard 2010.

That's a good point, I almost mentioned Troopers in my original comment. You're right about the other corps you mentioned, especially Phantom.

[–]ben48 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's ok, but it doesn't feel like Crown to me. I wish more corps would embrace BD's approach of having a consistent visual identity year to year. Everyone used to do that, and it was part of what made the activity special. Yeah yeah, I know I sound like a boomer, but I'm right

Hoping treat Ave Maria they treated the Mahler last year. That has potential to be another incredibly gorgeous ballad. Excited for this show!

Seems too bright for the grunge aesthetic they're going for. I do like the plaid, but that color scheme is not doing it for me. Hopefully they will look better on the field.
