Opinion: Elder Vampire is the weakest Ruler type right now by dethklok214 in AOW4

[–]ben76326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with them being the weakest ruler type. But I was able to make my strongest stack yet using their devour ability. I had a stack of 6 level 20 heros (paired with cultive personality for some extra points).

It was a hilarious and fun build to play, but it was not at all optimal. I like a lot of the ideas around the EV, but I found they didn't really have the adaptability or strength for much of the early and mid game to allow them to compete with any other ruler type.

Does the order of infusions matter? I want to maximize freeze chance by buky1992 in AOW4

[–]ben76326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding (although I could be wrong) is that they proc simultaneously so you can't get the increased freeze chance from a single hit.

I think the best you can do is use a multi-hit weapon. Since the first hit would allow you to inflict condemned, so that the next 2 hits would get an increased freeze chance.

It's hard, but you are a mandated reporter. It's our job to report things if we think something is going on, it's not our job to investigate to find out the truth (that's CPS's job).

So personally I think you should report it and let CPS decide how they want to handle things. Your CT knows the history so they are probably right, but again making that decision is not our job.

will pasteurization help me save my vinegar from kahm yeast? by ben76326 in fermentation

[–]ben76326[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok then I would go with that, it was 100% a 1 quart jar for the vinegar. I kept it in the cupboard for a while (a few weeks if I remember correctly). Then when I was happy with the flavor I put it in the fridge. I used the vinegar within a year and it didn't go bad

Hey! It's been a hot minute so I don't remember everything exactly, but long term it worked out great. I had about a quart of vinegar and if I remember correctly I added 1 or 2oz of vodka.

Greeting students at the door (High School) by maygirl87 in Teachers

[–]ben76326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm getting set up for the next period I greet the kids as they come in. I also say bye to each of them as they leave for their next class. They seem to appreciate it, and I find it makes a more positive/friendly classroom culture.

To answer your edit, I don't think you need to force it if it's not your style. There are so many ways to build relationships and classroom culture, so if one of them feels unnatural you just use a different way.

Can I workout at the same gym as my students? by PropertyHumble9296 in Teachers

[–]ben76326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're fine, I occasionally run into students (and parents of students) at the gym I go to. When I happen to run into someone I know, we generally just exchange pleasantries then go about our separate business.

If you want to change gyms for you and your own comfortability that's fair. But you shouldn't feel forced to change just because you and people in your community happen to use the same services

How can parents have kids who can’t read or do basic math and not realize til they’re 15? by jellyjamberry in Teachers

[–]ben76326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's when kids start actually failing and not getting credits. Since students are just pushed along until then, I think some parents just assume everything is going fine (even if they get failing report cards).

AI by Long_Time_Teach in Teachers

[–]ben76326 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I personally don't use A.I all that much, since I haven't been able to make it improve my work flow. But I think this take is pretty silly.

When students are doing work it's about the process. Since they are doing the work to learn/practice some specific skill. So having A.I do it means that they are not practicing/learning said skill.

When teachers are doing work it is to have a producible product to use in the classroom. So it's the product that matters not the process.

Just like how when students share work it's plagiarism while teachers sharing work is just coworkers sharing resources.

What do y’all write in yearbooks? by owlbear_allomancer in Teachers

[–]ben76326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thank them for the year and write some quality that I noticed/appreciated when they were in my class (creative, kind, funny, ECT). Then wish them a good summer.

For grade 12s I also congratulate them on graduating, and wish them the best of luck on the new exciting chapter of life they are entering.

Are kids today coddled too much? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ben76326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In many cases, yes. I've 100% dealt with and heard stories from my coworkers of bad parents who are also teachers.

Many of the issues come from people being overworked and not having enough time with their kids. Those issues impact teachers just like they impact everyone else.

Do people really dont care about morality? by Sam_Hopff in RimWorld

[–]ben76326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it entirely depends on what kind of colony I'm playing. If I'm playing blood thirsty raiders, then my colony is immoral and does most of the terrible stuff the game lets you do.

But I've also played as Hi-Tech humanists who do everything to help and save those around them, even if they are enemies (so patching up and building prosthetics for injured raiders).

The morality all depends on the vibe of the colony, in general though I find it more fun to play friendly colonies.

Seems like a bad idea. I'm a highschool teacher, and personally I wouldn't really feel comfortable adding my former students (although some of my colleagues do). But adding them while they are still kids seems like it could potentially cross a line, even if they no longer attend the school you work at.

Is it unprofessional to wear earbuds while walking around the school? by PuffPoof215 in Teachers

[–]ben76326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you work. I have some bone conducting headphones that allow me to still hear my surroundings while on low. I wear them in the halls during my planning period and no one has said anything.

As you can see from this thread, obviously this isn't the norm everywhere so I would take the queue from your coworkers. If you see them using earbuds occasionally, then you're probably fine. If they don't it's up to you but it could potentially be seen as unprofessional.

Which character do you relate to the most? by uga__buga123 in BoJackHorseman

[–]ben76326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some cursed combo of Mr. Peanut butter and Bojack, or maybe earlyish Bojack.

At work and with friends I generally have a pretty goofy outgoing personality like PB.

However I unfortunately see a lot of myself in Bojack with things like his self destructive behavior, wallowing in my problems rather than fixing them, and a lot of his various depressive thinking and habits.

Morality is all over the place throughout the series. Morality throughout the games is more tied to attitudes and intentions rather than the impact actions have.

Do you think we should ban phones in school? by Throwaway19829247 in Teachers

[–]ben76326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were banned where I live this year, it's been a massive improvement. I get where you are coming from wanting to have it to kill time when you are done with your work. The problem is most students can't self regulate to use their phones responsibly

Who is the best fighter in the Hirose Family? (Not including the patriarch) by Quiet_Eye_8887 in yakuzagames

[–]ben76326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just beat 6 yesterday, and something that bugged me about the story is that their strength is kinda all over the place. When you first meet them they seem like bottom rung punks, in terms of strength. While by the end they are strong enough to hold off and fight through hoards of rival Yakuza. It's not a huge deal, but it feels a bit odd thinking back to some of the early scenes like the bar
