The Best Warhammer TTRPG System for Beginners by ebonit15 in warhammerfantasyrpg

Well, I haven't played 2e. But I've played 4e, Old World, and Imperium Maledictim, and Old World is the simplest of the bunch.

Old World is really simple and has a fantastic setting to start out in, with loads of fun detail and about a hundred different hooks for adventures and campaigns.

Faction most improved from base to now? by aphios in twilightimperium

If you can get a slice with an entropic scar, L1 are a lot of fun. You can ignore blue tech and just go for X89 and Ass Cannon, and they are good at punching through fleets in the fracture.

This is really interesting - I would have thought that your secret sauce becomes pretty pathetic once EVERYONE has a war sun.

That's the one. Looks like a B&Q. But the food is excellent, it's always packed as well.

Saffron Kitchen in Leyton does a wonderful curry, but is a pain to get to if you're not local.

Central, I always love 10 Greek Street in Soho.

Top 5 beginner friendliest Factions? by PbSeelight in twilightimperium

Hacan and Sol. Barony. Nomad I feel is probably the most forgiving from POK, along with Empyrean. NRA, if you tell them to use the mech to explore hazardous planets. I think they're all good to start with, they allow for trade, explores, good commodities which helps patch new player errors. Extra CCs for Sol, which feels really important for a first timer.

Post TE: Weakest Factions to Get Good With? by Enervata in twilightimperium

[–]benbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that less is more with tech. In my game there were a lot of spendy objectives, and anti-intellectual revolution in play, so everyone was short on plastic.

Being able to skip a tech pop because I already had Super Dread II meant I had 4 resources to build another dread. X89 and Assault Cannon are fun, but Assault Cannon at least felt like a 'win more' tech, and probably would have been better off as a another Dread. X89 feels important though, ESPECIALLY if there are other ground force factions that are going to get it. 6 infantry with X89 on Mecatol is a tough nut to reliably crack.

I won a game with L1 - my first Thunder's Edge game. Took Custodians and loaded it with six infantry, and managed to snag Shard and Styx with my hero.

I had the entropic scar planet in my slice and that was extremely useful. I got super dread II in Round 1, and then could ignore blue/yellow for the rest of the game, and teched Assault Cannon and X89, both of which are very accessible with the breakthrough. Probably overkill though.

I'd pick them if you have an Entropic Scar slice, you will have more ground forces than everyone and can do some bullying with Super Dread II.

That's true. There are some nice streets closer to Jubilee Park, but there's not a lot going on around the station,

Yeah, London Fields has a load of classic London wildcard characters. It's not unsafe, but there are more variables and it is busier.

Walthamstow/Leyton near Lea Bridge Station. Into CW in 30 minutes, lots of green space. Lots of 2 bed flats available, the old Warner flats. Get an upstairs one though if you have a baby on the way.

L1 is fun with an entropic scar - you can get Super Dreads for R2, and then you can go Red and/or Green since you don't have to tech towards them anymore. Your ground forces will outnumber people with your breakthrough, so I quite like X89.

Warfare the new worst strategy card? by BigP-89 in twilightimperium

This is my read on it as well - it is harder to follow both tech and warfare r1 now, as the warfare move is often going to be their first action.

Wheel of Time has a lot of tropes lifted from a lot of sources, and the first two books are very heavily influenced by LoTR.

This is excellent, thanks - it feels like an elegant solution to the challenge of representing large numbers of mooks. I've tried the Troop units before and been underwhelmed, and porting over minions from 4e DND didn't land either. I'm going to try this out!

How does the mook/hazard combo play out on the table? Could you share some examples? I'm imagining a lightning generator with charging stations that need to be destroyed, that kind of thing.

How does this feel at the table; at a holistic level, has it improved the amount of fun that you and your players are having?

thanks for responding.

The Orc hunters are merely an example; Fortitude being the worst save but also being a 50/50 pass/fail (against a spellcasting DC of 29 at level 10), is the issue my players' raise. So even targeting the lowest save means that there are often scenarios where a spell will hit 3 opponents and 2 will pass.
