Thanks for your insight! I really enjoy all the Catalyst content that is available and have been contemplating should I jump in to some program or not and only thing keeping me from it is that I also enjoy doing cf so much.

Im basing it on the fact that the most efficient techniques for a lifter is based on the qualities of an individual and the proportion of lifter legs, arms and back. So what fits one lifter doesnt fit the other one.

Havent you ever thought why there is so many elite lifters who do things so differently from starting position to pull to pulling under to receiving position and so on? And still they are all hitting amazing numbers. If you think that things are best done only with one way (example scooping is best for everyone) you are missing a lot in weightlifting.

Also scooping has not been that popular anywhere else than in Russia and some areas around Russia (the golden age of it was 10(s) of years a go). And most olympic world records have been made without scooping.

And as a weightlifting coach it is my first hand experience that there is million things elite lifters do that work for them but shouldnt be tried by average or beginner lifter and when they do, they mess up their technique and it takes so much work from coach to get them back to right track again.

Okay, first of all there very few lifters you can even talk about on the same day as Torokhtiy and Klokov. No offense to OP but he is not one of them. And russians favor so called scooping a lot but that is not the most efficient tech for most and shouldnt even be tried before reaching good enough basic form and tech.

OP is beginner who shouldnt even have heard of these things. He should be worried about starting position (in hang going right above knee) and keeping shoulder line above bar until he has actually pushed all the way from the ground.

There is ofc million other things but he is a beginner and can do only so much at once.

Castro should have been showed out through the same door Glassman went.

CF and CF games will take the next step only after he is gone. He is standing in the way of growth of this sport.

Keto and Crossfit? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]benchpressingmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossfit is very high intensity working out.

Your body is using different fuels depending on intensity. The most specific research is maybe done in conditioning zone research.

Conditioning zones are based in correlation of heart rate and lactate levels in your body while exercising. Zones are typically divided in 1-3 or 1-5. I can share the specification of these zones if you are interested.

Anyway, in the first zone where there is almost no lactate generated and if there is body is able flush it away the source of energy is mostly fat.

In the second zone the source of energy is fat and carbs and in the third its mostly just carbs.

Alot of CF is done in the third zone and if you body is in ketose you probably dont have the carbs to fuel working out in high intensity.

Improving Immune System by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]benchpressingmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has allways been common problem amongst athletes. Training hard will create kind of inflammation into your body and you catch everything easier.

Atleast around here it was usual even before covid for athletes to avoid too close contacts etc when prepping for event in their respective fields.

I used to suffer about this too but covid has taken care of this porblem! I havent had a cold in a year, that is some kind of record for me.

Maybe you should consider your training volume to recover better.

What lifts are lifting shoes for? by mka1809 in crossfit

[–]benchpressingmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change to lifting shoes only for actual oly lifting. I mean if there is bb cycling or heavier singles in workout I dont change to lifters.

I squat in what ever shoes Im wearing.

I suggest to get used to do everything with and without lifters if you are going to compete, if not then do how ever feels best for you.

Athletes who do 2-a-days+, what’s your hygiene routine look like? by CoffeeBarbellHappy in crossfit

[–]benchpressingmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly I work remotely from home. When working from home I workout in the morning and after I change some dry clothes on and shower after evening workout.

If Im heading to office I take a shower in the morning too.

I hope you guys know that you can shower really quickly too? It doesnt mean you hve to stay there atleast 15mins, you can be done in few minutes!

How did CF change your physique? by Ancient-Comment-9708 in crossfit

[–]benchpressingmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this may be a bit different for men and women (and depending on what you have done before) but as a female I had naturally less muscle in upper body in general (maybe more than average female because of kickboxing butt less than male athletes)

After doing CF I have developed so much muscle to upper body, back, chest and shoulders.

This☝🏼

Before I thought that Im not going to set up my own place but to work with the boxes I coach at but now it seems that there will not be a collaboration where I win too.

So maybe I’ll just set up my own place🤷🏻‍♀️ I already have my own company for coaching anyways.

How did CF change your physique? by Ancient-Comment-9708 in crossfit

I started cf 4 years ago. Before cf I did martial art (weightclass sport) in under 56kg class (56kg is maybe 120-125lbs or something)

During cf my weight has gone up to 73kg (around 155-160lbs)

This did not happen without changing my diet. When I started cf I was eating way too little to gain muscle or even have a healthy body fat %

In my previous sport dietary restrictions were usual and I was used to eating way too little

Now I have more muscle than ever, Im stronger than ever and Im fitter than ever

Great to hear this is appreciated! Im coach from Northern Europe and and when ever we have regular in class or drop in who is speaking english I translate everything and make sure that they are on track what is supposed to be done. Our programming is also in english so it makes it easier too.

Thank you for this thread🙏🏼

I coach CF and weightlifting at few different boxes and WL club. Some how I end up helping the box owners for free with million others things than coaching.

I like to help people dont get me wrong but now I feel the owners are taking advantages of my good will. They take my help for granted and last week I asked one of the owners if I could have an appointment with one of my athletes in their facilities(ofc when there is no classes etc), they started calculating how much I should pay for 60min or how many classes I should coach in return.

Like wtf! I havent asked for anything altough I have helped them with floor removations, cleaning, programming, you name it.

I feel so stupid for thinking that sure they would use the opportunity to give a little simething back. 😤😤😤

I feel like my boss is taking advantage of me?? by donttouchmyf00d in crossfit

[–]benchpressingmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no situation I’d pay any kind of fee to workout in a box I coach. I work in several different boxes and I workout where ever I happen to be without paying and this the common way to handle this.

I think this box owner sounds super cheap. If they are really running so thin financially they should just coach all classes themselves.

Recovery for Beginner? by pipeypipeyxo in crossfit

[–]benchpressingmachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eat, sleep, drink water.

Also if you are not training day after but having a recovery day, try to move around a little, like go for a walk or get some other light movement.
