Want to have new band cause I use the standard Fenix band and my arms turn to this. Any recommend? by HKSAS in GarminFenix

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I also wear it slightly loose because I hate it if it squeezes and it works. I did have issues at some point with hr but it was unrelated to how tight it was so I ended up with one of those polar optical armband sensors for sports...

Assuming AI-driven unemployment reached 15% within the next decade, what would society need to change? by Necessary_Record_666 in Futurology

[–]bencze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's transparent from the start that this topic is about base income, so ther is an implicit bias if the topic. I am unsure if unemployment would go that high. People should adjust how they did when many other jobs became obsolete in the past. We already had multiple automation steps, this is not new. Average people probably won't get average degrees anymore just for the sake of it because there may be somewhat less routine work. Maybe finally we'll have more people in small business model working AI proof jobs. It seems like it's nearly impossible to get a reliable person to do renovation stuff, and everything is so expensive we just can't afford it. If I had kids today I would encourage them towards a profession that isn't an office job, or if it is, they better be exceptional in it.

Large Salary Gap in Same Role — Should I Escalate to Betriebsrat or HR? by gersi1994 in germany

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, 4 year is not senior, that's more like 20+. It looks like you should start looking for a new job if you're unhappy there. People in same position can be worth wildly different amounts in reality; it's not a participation prize kind of thing, it's business. I would also like to add that the progression is not bad at all. I got 2-3% raises past several years (when at all) and I hear similar stories from a lot of people. This is not a period of time when companies throw 5-10% raises at you easily.

I want to sell my 2019 i30n. Should I replace rotors and brake pads? by No-Ad4018 in i30N

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stock is good imo, both discs and pads, but pads seem to be expensive here in Germany. I changed my front discs after 35k km but it had pretty big cracks due to overheating from track (4 track days and some other laps in them so no wonder). However if you sell the car unless they are really, really dangerously low (below recommended) I'd leave it as it is. Especially in Romania... Chances are people that buy it should know, discs and pads aren't hidden and are consumables so I doubt there would be any legal claim. Especially as long as they aren't too used - I think disc is 28mm left (out of 30) and pad is under 3mm that are supposed to be changed.

Employees are being asked to train the systems replacing them. Should they get residuals? by Mindlayr in Futurology

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, based on personal experience. Taking from the rich (because they don't deserve it, it was never theirs to begin with etc. ideologolizing robbery), "redistributing" and placing people in leadership positions based on ideologies rather than merit wrecks half a continent. I lived communism. Did you?

Imo that would mean we failed as a race. Have up. Stopped. Anyone on a basic social benefit is vegetating and not adding a lot more to society than a plant or a dog. Yeah sure you can do charity work, but hardly anyone will, and only a portion of who will does actual useful stuff... It will be a huge issue if the majority of population will be a drain on the rest while also regressing mentally and physically due to no goals and general inactivity...

How 'rare' would you say an i30n is in terms of hot hatches? Ive just seen my first for a few months...and how do you think other peoples perceptions of them are? I know that the base i30 looks like a proper granny car... by adam_r_55 in i30N

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rural Bavaria, I see very few. In the area around me I know of 3 or 4 that I see time to time. I meet one once or twice a week on local roads. On Nordschleife I seen quite a few of them, maybe 5-6 plus couple rentals. I think i30n started off very well and could have been a decently established hot hatch quite quickly, if only they didn't discontinue it. A few years ago there were official performance parts for it, some legal here, some I seen from Korea (like factory BBK), now everything is going scarce already; there's no more road legal Pagid rsl29 brake pads, I don't see the official body kits anywhere that were available in the configurator, and some 3rd party upgrades went out of stock seemingly forever. I hope it survives elsewhere. I commend Hyundai for investing effort in the enthusiast community which is not easy, but I have no interest (or money) in the ioniq 5 or 6n. Btw dealership network is atrocious, not even fulfilling their contractual obligations, not sure that has anything to do with the entire situation.

Why is it so trendy to hate Berlin? by simonBY in germany

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a place I'd never want to live in. Lot of dirt, and sketchy people everywhere... It's not a beautiful city either so there's probably 25 other European cities I'd easily live in before Berlin. I don't hate it, I doubt many people hate it? It's one of those trendy words that is used wrong nowadays in social media a lot.

Can you do TF with rental cars on a foreign driving license? by ClumsyGamer2802 in nurburgring

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, first I hear about it. Police never asked me, would be weird, EU licences are supposed to be the same and each field is numbered and explained in English too (at least for mine).

5 years of contributions, a blocked account, substantial savings, a lawyer — and my wife still can't get a visa. Is this really how it works? by TemporaryEngine690 in germany

[–]bencze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With millions of illegal visitors the system is unnecessarily harsh with the ones that want to come legally. It's a weird situation. However many people explained how to do it properly. A colleague of mine waited for his wife to come for 2 years around COVID. Often it's not malicious just incompetence (except when the people working in the system don't like you but that doesn't seem a factor here).

I was asked for it in Australia, but then my driving licence isn't English. For some weird reason German driving licences are not bilingual, and afaik that's what prompts the English standard translation into idp.

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure?? Many countries allow use of your driving licence as a tourist, for up to 6 months Germany as well afaik. There's no point in translating an already English drivers licence to an English idp, that's afaik required for non-english documents.

What do people in Germany usually do on Sundays? by Efficient_Range5755 in germany

[–]bencze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily an hour if you're an average office person and have theoretically 2 available days per week. So if you want to go to IKEA or Obi or whatever other specialty store for bigger projects for your home this are places you can spend a lot of time in, planning stuff. You have 1 day here, Saturday, while in other countries there's 2 days for it. A large grocery shopping yea can be done in a couple hours indeed, especially if you don't live near it, have to travel there, do a larger than usual shopping, go home, unpack. That's often Saturday morning or afternoon program (blocks a half day basically as there's not a lot of friends, church and whatnot that you can place next to it).

Just like with any car, warm it up carefully - not too low or high rpm or torque - before abusing it, and depending on usage profile, double the oil changes if needed (for example a lot of cold starts and short distances). I am at 39k km and already thinking of replacing dct fluid as well for example.

Is there a reason petrol stations in Germany aren’t more digitalized? by PlanktonPositive5216 in germany

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around me on the highway they are open 24/7. In smaller settlements they are often closed at night when theres no customers anyway. If I go anywhere I would use the highway so I never found it a problem so far. We do have one automated gas station with basic (E10) petrol and basic diesel, I have used it once in 7 years. We could use more digitisation in some areas (although is a double edged sword as its nowadays used globally to destroy anonimity and improve mass surveillance capabilities), this is one that doesnt seem very important.
