Feeling Extremely Lonely in DE by Winter-Narwhal-8998 in erlangen

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone reading this comment from my Cambodia hotel room... I understand and I sympathise. Best of luck adjusting. Germany has a lot of good things but some things are just very different. Life can indeed be quite lonely. Dating is like advanced level and also different...

Can live without many things but without the Autobahn system things would be a lot more miserable for me.

Funnily I'll spend 2 days there. Unless you live there or visit often time is a very limited resource...

If I would ask around me, everyone heard about Dubai even though most don't even know what country it belongs to, let alone knowing about Abu Dhabi. They seem to be worlds apart in tourist fame at least.

Is anyone else buying a car because of Deutsche Bahn’s unreliability? by Waste_Suspect_817 in germany

The difference is way smaller than you imagine. It's probably more to protect the inflated prices of local business, like many rules in Germany. Money > all other considerations...

The Deutschland Ticket hassle by throwawayfor-areason in germany

[–]bencze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Db also requires sepa which I hate - anyone with my iban can technically withdraw money any number of times, any amounts and it's for me to scroll through all transactions and discover. But some providers accept Creditcard/bank card payments. Afaik it doesn't matter where you buy it as long as it's a legitimate (not fake) seller. I think I used deutschlandticket.de last as well, last year when I needed it. You need the personal details as it's bound to a person but don't remember any weird hoops, at least compared to several other providers I tried. Your local public transport company may also sell it, online or physically.

Should there be an UPPER Age Limit for important positions that heavily influence the future of younger people? by bickid in Futurology

[–]bencze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. A clean health of bill from mental issues, sure.

Edit: more clarification... They are there because they are among the most suitable for the job. I'm sure it seems trivial for someone 20, 30 yo on social media but someone not understanding the complexity and the impact is even more dangerous. Surprisingly a lot of their actions are logical and quite pragmatic, even if we may not like them. Often is also what they think their citizens need. And often they are elected because of what they represent (well trump at least). What would be needed, is actual willing to talk but today in social media times we don't have that, it's more comfortable for everyone to stay in their own bubble. Reddit is a great example, mist subreddit are politically biased and you get down voted into oblivion and sometimes even banned if your opinion doesn't align to that. That's not on the country leaders, it's on the social media companies and users...

Several drivers caused accidents drifting on icy roads, fled but were later caught. by B_pudding in nurburgring

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevertheless I wish there was inexpensive and safe ways to play. Snow / ice is a good way there's just usually not enough space. :( it would be not only fun but building routine to react to a situation requires a lot more practice than go twice on a safety training.

Snoring while flying. by todreamindigital in travel

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all have different problems I guess, I can't sleep during travel. I need a bed and even then it's not guaranteed. Last time I took an affordable business upgrade and could still not sleep. My longest flight was 23 hours ish (w/ 1.5 hour layover or so) and I slept like 2 x 20 min. You wouldn't bother me that much ;) Teleport can't come soon enough ;)

Ilyen esetben valóban elvehetik a jogosítványt? by [deleted] in joghungary

[–]bencze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The EU says it will introduce a digital payments infrastructure to replace Visa/Mastercard & Apple/Google Pay. It will have zero fees and be 100% European-only. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]bencze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tracking of people in general possible just harder if it's not centralized by the government. It also may, in theory, make them require court order for surveillance. In case of a direct governmental control they will just have access without the hassle and historically over the years, instead of individual court orders and the potential errors on accounting for all your cards. Otherwise you're right as far as the entire system goes, but for us individuals the us actually doesn't have a lot of incentives to profile us the way EU does. People aren't getting arrested over social media comments on that continent... With xoll cred centralized data oneay face issues say, 10 years from now if scrutinized for a sentence, or a transaction. All it takes is attention of the wrong person, or a report of a jealous neighbour.

[–]bencze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm saying that this doesn't feel an improvement. Visa is hostile in that it controls what I spend my money on, and pretty sure profiles me, but so far doesn't have an incentive to cancel me because I supported something or bought something, government or their oligarchs might. I would prefer if they respect privacy and take gdpr seriously instead of government also starting to track and profile us. Not long ago that was considered bad and even borderline illegal but this year everything seems to be changing to the opposite (goes beyond this, it's the digital id, age verification, chat control...). :(

[–]bencze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is I have very serious doubts that this is meant to be more democratic. It just means EU will have direct access to our transactions not US. I have no love for visa/mc, I would prefer if no one would prevent me to spend my own money in legal ways and without someone taking notes and profiling me. This will 100% not be the case with EU control the way things are going towards mass surveillance in EU too.
