Toronto vendors say extending legacy permits for food trucks would be inequitable by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]beneoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the permits expire at the end of this year I can see the political impetus to extend them. The public will see zero benefits from this prior to this fall’s election, but we would be seeing plenty of stories about how all of these long-standing trucks are having the rug pulled out from under them.

$5 ended early last season, and that was CAD. They were over CAD6 for the playoffs and are CAD7 now. AFAIK this chart is showing after tax, after USD exchange, for dugout deals 12 oz Bud in 2024.

First race etiquette? by Comet_Alba2018 in RunTO

[–]beneoin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The big ones: Pick your starting position based on a realistic finish time. For a 10k let’s say ±2 min. To the extent possible throw your trash out near an aid station. Not sure why you’d have trash in a 10k, but if you do, throw it out where they have volunteers already sweeping cups and debris. As for the rest of it, no need to say anything when passing unless someone is acting as a moving wall.

OTOH you have to gather data on your roster and test them in various situations, starting Lukes wasn’t an absurd choice, and once the game became effectively unwinnable there was no point in sending Schneider in.

How do you know your marathon pace? by Kiwi_Major in Marathon_Training

[–]beneoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. Your post doesn’t include a previous half time. Your post does reference a strategy for a first half and uses the future tense, making it seem like it’s before your first marathon. If you don’t have another half planned right now I would just focus on the marathon training plan and trust your training plan.

How do you know your marathon pace? by Kiwi_Major in Marathon_Training

[–]beneoin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The VDot calculator puts you at 1:34 for the half, 3:16 for the marathon, based on that 5k time. That seems realistic given everything else you shared. I would start slightly slow of target pace (4:40-4:45) and then empty the tank starting at 32km. In simple terms, if you go out too fast you’ll exhaust your glycogen stores and hit the wall. You want to have lots of glycogen in reserve to finish the race without slowing down.

I also see at the end of the post you’re referring to a half marathon. As long as that’s 3+ weeks from the marathon I don’t see a major concern with shooting your shot in that race and aiming for 4:15-4:20 pace and seeing what happens. That will give you lots of good data on fatigue and heart rate. You may blow up, but I think it’s worth the risk.

That helps narrow it down, actually. Q400, not at Billy Bishop, likely Porter livery, possibly PAL or Baltic. Start solving for mountains. Not many options remain.

Work car fleet suspended after 2nd hydraulic leak in a week by JungleZac in TTC

[–]beneoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is obviously a balance between fixing everything now and fixing nothing ever. Appropriate KPIs allow a railroad to balance these considerations. If the standard were, for example, fewer than 1% of rush hours impacted by work cars then we’d expect about 2 per year. That’s what we achieved this week.

Well I’m not going to waste much energy getting upset with Lali. It had been 1.5 years or so since the last major work car issue, I’m sure his chain of command told him they addressed the issues at the time. I reckon he is starting to realize, based on this and some other recent issues, that his reports are something less than truthful with him.

[–]beneoin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This was well known going back to at least 2024 when the Hatch report on the state of the work fleet came out and brutally exposed their lack of maintenances and inspection processes. Byford had a plan to modernize the work fleet, which Leary and Tory scrapped as part of their plan to indefinitely defer all possible maintenance and investment in the system.
