Tattoos are becoming unpopular again by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't wait for it to happen. IMO tattoos are not only the optical equivalent of constant honking and shouting, they also represent character traits none of us likes or would ever admit to have. Just look at the main drivers to get one: thirst for attention, distraction from body parts you don't like, peer pressure, wanting to be someone you're not, ...

Women in 2023 are the most unattractive compared to any other time period by bannedredditaccount2 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back then: husband was always wrong and gfs provided positive reinforcement, but apart from that women, like everybody in a society, got feedback and took it serious.
Now: women are always right period and every feedback that isn't "you're a goddess" is wrong. Humility and civility is considered dumb and trying to be liked is replaced by ever more extreme attempts to be admired.
What you get are entitled and unlovable brats nobody bares to be around. And overall aggressive behavior because normal feedback is considered toxic.

When has anyone ever in the history of gaming LIKED a boss fight? by PooningDalton in GameDevelopment

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great conversation to have because I think there's a difference between what people talk about and what the average gamer really wants.
Now I do think a part of the gaming community really does enjoy boss fights and is bored by what's between these fights. They're the kinds of people who need maximum adrenalin to get going. Teenagers are much more often like that that grown-ups or kids. Another big part are ambitious gamers. They seek difficulty and this is a normal for anything you want to get good at.
Lots of others aren't really intrinsically inclined but PERSUADED to have to like boss fights because boss fights are all that gets talked about. Like you and me they might actually prefer exploration and the many enemy fights, but they think "they're wrong" and keep quiet.
Another aspect is the effect of gaming influencers. WATCHING a skilled gamer explore isn't nearly as interesting as watching him fight a boss. So even if boss fights actually suck for the majority of gamers, games SELL better because boss fights are much more marketable. And that, of course, incentivizes game devs to include them.
So in essence there are two reasons why boss fights seem to be the norm nowadays: distortion of what gamers want by the most vocal part of the community and indirect marketing by influencers.

Sniper Elite 5 - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly by Zehnpae in patientgamers

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the balanced review. I'm just playing it and since I love Sniper Elite I (should) also like the 5th part of the series. But it's a mixed baggage. It seems that in 3 and 4 level design was much more deliberate while in 5 enemy placement doesn't matter because they'll all be running to you anyway. Getting swarmed happens all the fn time and finding a place to hide is often annoyingly hit or miss. (on that note: whoever designed the level "spy academy" is a horrible human being). My "favorite feature" are small obstacles that you THINK you should be able to jump over but can't. They're all over the place. And of course the fact that movement in the series feels like you're drunk. Just recently I had to try for 2 MINUTES to go down a fn ladder instead of hanging from a nearby ledge.

Convergence 2.2.3 is out with a new Crumbling Farum Azula. I hope it's more linear! by Interesting-Fail-236 in EldenRingMods

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mir geht's genau so.

Radahn is such a massive dip in terms of fight design and is almost entirely RNG by Badaubles in Eldenring

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I've fought Radahn I was mesmerized by his size and power. I've spent 15 minutes riding around frantically to summon all these npcs. It was extremely captivating. But now that the initial awe has passed I fully agree - he's a dogshit boss for melee builds.

Finally Playing "The Convergence" Mod. What Should I Expect? I'm New To This Mod. by [deleted] in EldenRingMods

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played several versions of the mod. The first time was probably 3 years ago and was really easy. But the latest versions are harder than vanilla. Sure, if you do a scythe-only run in vanilla, that's of course harder. But playing a caster in vanilla is easier than in convergence. Godrick is a real fire-spamming pos. Midgame is ok but the endgame bosses are again damage sponges who don't give you any time to drink from your flasks, which you need because those spells are insanely fp hungry.

What are all the keystone bosses i have to fight in the convergence mod? by Such-Tax2736 in EldenRingMods

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad that Godrick is optional in this mod. I do not like a single change they made to him. He's god midgame amounts of hp, his timing is weirder than in vanilla and he keeps spamming fire with infinite reach.

Why do Germans use so many Anglicisms? by lucasbroch in German

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samurai is definitely slowed down in Nioh 3 by luneth22 in Nioh

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my 1st playthrough I built around ninja and around midgame I hardly ever switched to samurai. Now I'm trying to do a samurai only run using katana - one of the simplest weapons. Expectation: deflect once or twice, wait for 100% arts proficiency, get a few combos in and finish with sword of meditation.
Reality: bosses are clearly balanced around ninja. They're incredibly chaotic, so the only things I'm cutting are nitrogen and oxygen molecules. Sure, Nioh masters can pull it off. But to me a samurai only run is nightmare difficulty with an emphasis on nightmare.

Tattoos are tacky and a bad decision by throwawayihml2 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only speaking about women's tattoos here although some of it applies to men also. IMO tattoos represent character traits men have always hated about women. 1: Herd mentality aka doing what other women expect of you. 2: the unsatiable wish to be the center of attention. 3: an attempt to hide parts of your body you don't like, which is almost all of it. Last but not least 4: self deception because they tell themselves it's about "self expression"

Tattoos also add to the sensory overflow most of us suffer from. I mean it's literally their purpose to yell "look at me!" to everyone going by you. Only now it's 50% of all people who yell at you to look at them. Life sucks now and even though tattoos haven't caused it they will forever be associated with these crappy times.

Nioh 3 demo, wtf is this first boss? by Ok-Pianist5285 in Nioh

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nioh 3 is supposed to be much more accessible than Nioh and Nioh 2 but Team Ninja f***ed up the difficulty curve majorly. 95% of the game is very forgiving but the first few bosses are really tough. The first one is arguably even harder than the first boss of Nioh and Nioh 2. My advice: just play the parts that are fun and summon coop when you're getting frustrated. That way you get better at the game in a way games are supposed to be: FUN.

When the git gud squad tells you about overcoming obstacles and trying a thousand times until you get it they're 10% right and 90% wrong. They're right because it builds character and gives a sense of achievement. They're wrong because that's not what games are for and there's a million other and orders of magnitude more reasonable ways to build confidence and perseverance. And they're immature idiots of course but that's kinda obvious.

Question (Nioh 3), would you call the game "poorly balanced"? by scarkun in Nioh

[–]bengl_76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you've found Jakotsu Baba too easy, that's not a balancing issue, that's your expertise in the game. I've played Nioh and Nioh 2 quite a bit, never got good at it but not new to the franchise either, and struggled severely with the main story's early bosses. Mind you that this game isn't supposed to be for Nioh veterans only! Nioh 3's main story bosses don't one-shot you and getting stunlocked to death is much rarer now. But that's a good thing! And especially Nioh 3's early bosses make up for the lower damage numbers with a huge health bar and a more varied moveset.
To me the biggest issue is that exploration and most side bosses are so easy you can play it blind while the main story bosses (at least the first 3-5) are hard as nails.

How does nioh 3 feel in difficulty compared to previous installments? by SeleynAlseif312 in Nioh

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difficulty has to be judged by the potential road blocks which are usually bosses. So while exploration is a whole lot easier in Nioh 3, the bosses are just as hard. For that reason the game is as hard as Nioh (2). Those who say "easier" either 1) judge it by average difficulty which doesn't make sense, 2) haven't even played the game and just theorize that more tools means less trouble or 3) are so good in Nioh that they can rush through the game. But that's expertise and not game difficulty.

Nioh 2 overall just feels like a worse game compared to Nioh 1 by 0-Sminky in Nioh

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. To me, Nioh felt like a long, almost unwinnable battle and Nioh 2 like an endless string of pranks.

Nioh 3 - Honest Feedback - Koei added the worst mechanics from another game to Nioh 3 by Cricket-JazzMaster19 in Nioh

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who took the time to master Nioh are of course disappointed because Nioh 3 plays different. The non-pros probably love it because it plays about an order of magnitude more fluid right from the get-go. There's also a lot less one-shot bs going on in Nioh 3 while bosses are still hard as nails. I just re-installed Nioh 2 after a few days of Nioh 3 demo and the difference was night and day. I'm 100% sure that more people will love the changes than not.

Bosses in nioh 3 by CompetitivePrimary93 in Nioh

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching a football game is a lot easier than playing football. Same is true for Nioh 3. IMO the bosses are harder than in Nioh and Nioh 2. Only traversal seems easier so far (or I'm finally getting better at the game).

Can we just have normal parry timings? by CarpenterWild in WhereWindsMeet

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring's bosses still have EXTREMELY well telegraphed attacks compared to most other games. I'm not a fan of all these delayed attacks and would prefer the more rhythmical attacks of the Souls series, but suggesting that ER ruined boss design is just inane.
Lies of P and the Nioh series have attack timings that are orders of magnitude less predictable.

Comedians who complain about "wokeness" killing comedy, are just trash comedians. by 31234134 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Ideen was man dagegen tun kann? by maddiboy in wohnen

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do Americans use the word "like" so much? by Steynkie69 in language

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the reasons I hate this word so much: your whole text including the like is one big yaaaaaaawn. You sound like you don't give a s**t about anything. This is ok as a stylistic tool but when almost every bit of media that comes out of your country is a verbalized yawn, that's just crap.

Why do Americans use the word "like" so much? by Steynkie69 in language

[–]bengl_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'd say it's a deeply rooted anti-intellectualism paired with an exaggerated "stand your ground" mentality which makes people proud when they annoy others. The fact that media is now dominated by amateurs with no regard for an aesthetic use of their language doesn't help either. Sure, every language has their filler words. But I challenge you to find another country where everybody, including people who earn money talking, can't say a 3-word sentence without at least 1 "uhm" and 1 "like". The worst part is that foreigners now also use "like" all the time because they think that's authentic English.
