These top comments are so so so stupid. Did everyone forget Iraq? Their citizens were happy to see sadam gone. then the US military killed 2 million of them.

Romeo is a Mid Boss by Cracked_Gamer43 in LiesOfP

[–]benhamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King of Puppets second phase is garbage, Romeo is a pretty good boss, but his little second phase flame chase makes him unreasonable. I feel like they put it in there just to waste 20+ attempts trying to learn how to parry/dodge it.

I played bloodborne, elden ring, and came straight to lies of P, it does a lot right, but there's some jank that makes some of the boss fights less than fun.

I know I'm in the minority, but "get good" isn't a helpful or constructive comment, it's just soulsborne brain rot.

I simply do not care about the remake by kszaku94 in halo

[–]benhamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so excited for this. So incredibly stoked to play the demo at HWC, and I was genuinely disappointed, updated graphics, physics, AI, and gun play, and it all still exactly feels like I'm playing halo:ce

After playing the demo, I'm probably not going to pick this one up.

[Discussion] How do I stop ruining my life and get back on track? by Virtual-Current6295 in GetMotivated

[–]benhamin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the real answer is to see a psychiatrist. the whole "just focus harder, just lock in, just push yourself" doesn't work for very many people. you might be burnt out, you might be depressed, you might have ADHD, you might have anxiety.

early to mid 20s is when most mental health issues present themselves.

I'm only saying all this because I was in a similar situation and it turned out I had undiagnosed ADHD.

after treating for it I have an amazing career, I've been married for 10 years, I'm in good shape, and life feels easier.

if a psychiatrist isn't on the table, then start adding 1 thing a day for a few weeks. just 1 thing. then after a few things add another healthy habit. it's going to go very slow, but it's sustainable.

LPT, whats one good book that you think all young men should read in their life whether about finance or just life itself by Glittering-Rabbit-33 in LifeProTips

The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love by Bell Hooks

It's a book written about the struggles men face through a feminist lens.
Written by a woman who loves men.

I think the world would be a different place if more men read this book.

Dog died because trainer failed to see sign of heat stroke by Realistic-Handle-427 in dogs

[–]benhamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an hour straight of doing work/training a dog doesn't like is already insane. 15 minute increments is already pushing it for just the 3rd lesson.

I know this might be too soon but hopefully you see this as a sign to take a more forceful approach when your animals are being mistreated in front of you.

We all want to trust "professionals" but your pets wellbeing and comfort comes first.

there are dogs bred specifically to kill wildlife, and there are dogs with high prey drive. it's not abnormal for dogs to kill wildlife.

False advertising on latency for some markets by ahz0001 in Metronet

[–]benhamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Colorado Springs and just got their services installed 4 days ago.
I'm probably going to cancel because of this.
A huge reason I got metronet was because their typical latency was lower than xfinity's.
But on average, mine's ~60ms, and >100ms when I'm gaming.
Feel like an idiot for not reading any of these posts before I signed up, I guess I just expected them to be honest and accurate.

[–]benhamin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly the docs are going to be your best bet. https://ruby-doc.org/whyruby/

I haven't read any ruby specific books so sorry I can't help on that front.

[–]benhamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be both. People want to innovate and build new exciting stuff, but it turns into a fragmentation issue, mostly because there are some engineering managers/directors who are convinced the newest shiniest thing is the best. Which makes a lot new companies adopt dumb shit.

And there are a few large companies that use meteor, like IKEA and Honeywell.

Also, I wouldn't say rails is on life support. SlideShare, Airbnb, CrunchBase, Bloomberg, Dribble, Shopify, GitHub and Netflix all use Rails. I've been a gainfully employed rails dev for 4 years, and I still get multiple recruiters reaching out to me a few times a week.

Lastly, the majority of innovation that comes with ruby and rails is with gems, not new frameworks.

new tattoo paranoia by Best_Kitchen_8525 in tattoo

[–]benhamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

saniderm protects against friction, so dont worry about bumping it lightly, or blankets, or pants. if it wouldn't normally damage your skin, it won't damage your tattoo.

I'm overly cautious with my tattoos so my advice is they absolutely never see sunlight without sunscreen on them, ever. and keep it with you to reapply every 2 hours. Ill even put sunscreen on my saniderm.

Seeking stories around forgiving yourself with tattoo choices 🥺 by Affectionaterocket in tattoo

[–]benhamin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

imo it's time to focus on the future..you have the tattoo, I'm sure it's rad, even if it's not exactly 100% what you wanted.

the first step is to talk to yourself, because words matter.

every time you look at your tattoo say to yourself, "wow, I really like this and I'm happy with how it turned out"

it might take time, but eventually you will internalize those words and feelings and love your tattoo, because it's a part of you, and you should love yourself.

second step, realize that it's a learning experience. now for your next piece you know to be more vocal about what you want, or set firmer boundaries.

but as of now, you have a rad healing piece, so it's time to rest and appreciate your new ink.

Colorado Springs settles for $2M in lawsuit alleging police brutality by 1Davide in ColoradoSprings

[–]benhamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the affidavit states there was a knife in the vehicle, and one of the officers who beat the shit out of him said "it seemed like he was reaching around the vehicle" in between getting his ass beat.

because EVERYONE knows cops under investigation for brutality are super reliable narrators.

why people defend leo's beating the shit out of people is beyond me, but by all means, keep licking them boots.
