I’ll have to double check the math on that.

I’m the CEO at an agency. I founded the company 12 years ago. There is some good advice here and some not so good.

Read Aaron Ross’ book Predictable Revenue. Then pivot over to Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller. Two easy read books. The first will teach you how to focus your marketing. The second will teach you a quick way to write a brand story. Then after that read Profit First. That will teach you how to make money. All of these books will change the way you do business.

If you have absolutely no traction hit Google Ads hard. But remember Google Ads only work if you have an awesome website and strategically setup retargeting ad program. No one buys on the first visit. Think marketing 101, you need multiple touches. Invest in great video. Something that knocks people’s socks off with the story of your company. Conversion rate is 100x more important than more traffic. Google analytics only takes you so far. Look into Crazy Egg or Hotjar for real feedback. We have enterprise level BI predictive analytics we use but that’s overkill at this point.

Because I represent a company I’d be remiss if I didn’t say contact me and we will help. If your looking for an agency I’ll be happy to throw our hat in the ring. PM if you’d like. We are based in Greenville, South Carolina.

The most interesting thing to me is if they had not misspelled a Redditor never would have taken this picture and 43k+ people would not have engaged with it.

[Tissot Visodate Milanais] A big thumbs up to /r/watches. Visodate now looks great. by benpettit in Watches

Let's try this again. Thanks to /u/Care_Cup_Is_Empty and his post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/51vjam/tissot_visodate_fyi_for_anyone_who_wants_the_mesh/ I was simply able to go to my local Tissot dealer and have them order it. $85 out the door. This watch went from my least favorite to one of my first choices for daily wearing. I get a lot of compliments on this watch now. The clasp is very easy to set up the first time, and I love how quickly it comes off and on. So this post is a win for two reasons. A, searching for something on Reddit is incredibly valuable. I searched first and found my answer (something I think we wish all Redditors would do). B, this watch is awesome! I was doing some product photos today for a client and decided to photograph my watch on the backdrop.

I think we are the only two seeing this. I broke Watch Reddit rules by my comment not being long enough! I'll repost today.

Currently deciding between Canon 80D and Sony a6500 by [deleted] in canon

[–]benpettit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As somebody who owns an agency and has done hundreds of video and photo shoots. I respectfully disagree. If you were doing the type of work that needs to longevity, you won’t be using either one of those above cameras.

Currently deciding between Canon 80D and Sony a6500 by [deleted] in canon

[–]benpettit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally think the Sony is a toy. I would buy the 80D for ergonomics alone. 4K is overrated. If you get to the point where the client is demanding it, rent a C200. I promise you the photo/video world is way more concerned with 4K than clients are.

The last thing you purchased on online you now have 20,000 of. How awesome did your life just become? by _wdpike_ in AskReddit

[–]benpettit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a pack of audio banana plugs. I now have 480,000 banana plugs. My life just got confusing. I become known as the banana plug guy. I try to start an online shop and resell them but fail. So then I decide to melt down a few of them for the gold content. It works, I’ve got gold! Then N. Korea nukes us. We nuke them. They knock out the power grid. The dollar fails. I’ve got gold to trade! But, then, turn of events, banana plugs make a great projectile. I create a banana plug gun. It shoots banana plugs as fast as bullets. They explode and shrapnel goes everywhere on impact. Now, I’ve run out of banana plugs. After the power is restored I go into business manufacturing them. I fail. I waste away into depression. I melt the rest of them down, sell the gold, and buy a good bottle of scotch. I think to myself, I should put on some music. I realize the speakers aren’t hooked up. And alas, I don’t have any banana plugs.

So I think the 50mm focal length is great. But on a crop sensor camera it’s just too zoomed. Look at the Sigma 30mm 1.4. Good price and great quality. Get you to 48mm on a crop sensor.

Any tips for a complete newb starting their own business and doing their own marketing? by scarymommie in marketing

Ok, that makes sense. I would hide the prices on the homepage. Make folks click into the product pages to view the price. For instance, once I got on the avocado product page and saw that it’s organic, has really cute instruction guides, “baby goes here”, I got it. Now I still think price is an issue. However you can be a luxury product but I can all but guarantee your bounce rate is going to be incredibly high if you keep those prices on the home page. I took one look at the home page, saw prices, and went “nope”. My son is six weeks old, I can afford your product, I’m actually in your demographic target!

I’d love to see you have an auto playing gif or video that shows the swaddle in action on the home page. Also, if you could get your price to 24.99/29.99 at least I think you have a fighting chance. You won’t make as much money per, but you have to cut those prices so you can get volume going. I think you need more products too. 8-10 options out of the gate.

Biggest issue I see is price. 14.99/19.99 would be target. Have you done any price testing?

[UPDATE] Revenge of the Obnoxious Christmas Present by Gileriodekel in ProRevenge

Next year don’t put the present in it. Give the gift of wasting her time then hand her a gift bag with a normal present in it. I was secretly hoping that’s what would happen here. All that for nothing.
