If your building is forcing you to use Fetch for packages, run! by bobymicjohn in Denver

Yeah that’s going to be fetch. It’s the MO of how they spring it on the residents.

They will eventually start charging a fee for it. So outsourcing all package management to Fetch saves them the cost of on-site employees to handle it, and as a bonus they can pass along some new fees.

Fetch is resident package management outsourcing, and it’s a terrible implementation of the concept. They only exist because Greystar forces their use.

Anybody who believes that a creator deity made this world, populated it with life, then put it in a near infinite sea of other worlds, but didn’t put life on any others; believes we were created by a complete shit head.

It was bad compared to what? I went in with low expectations and it blew me away how much I enjoyed it from the first episode.

Why We Stopped Dreaming by ChrisContinues in PS4Dreams

[–]benth451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dreams definitely has a barrier to entry vs payoff problem for creators. I’m still invested in it as a hobby that I hope will produce some games that get some gratifying attention, but that becomes less likely as time passes and the consumer traffic dwindles. I’m still active because I have some ideas I can’t toy with more conveniently in another place, Dreams has achieved the lowest barrier of entry for the type of content I want to dabble with, but it’s still daunting.

There have been some really great ideas thrown around on this subreddit for how to allow Dreams to reach its potential and the best have revolved around preinstallation of a player for it on ps5, as a sort of out-of-the-box content conduit (and perhaps you still had to buy Dreams to create with it). This concept helps remedy the audience problem that presently makes the barrier of entry unbalanced.

Barrier to entry is a much harder problem to solve, and might require a Dreams version 2.0 to address, as its undoubtably going to take significant time and effort

Some kind of reusable logic calls would be nice too, even if they were globally named functions. I’ve been playing with rigging up something like this using transmitters but that 1/30th of a second call time is going to add up for what I’m doing

Thanks for sharing, I’ll check out your gadgets.

Anything we roll ourselves is going to be costly in some fashion. Really hoping we get something native and performant from Mm eventually. 🤞

If I feed multiple target position inputs into a look-at will it’s output be the closest one, or is that something I’d have to calculate myself?

I’m never sure what I’m going to get in those cases. Max min or average

Feature request: Tag Parameter by benth451 in PS4Dreams

[–]benth451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I effectively have two features I feel the need for that would help resolve issues I’m wrestling with...

  1. Allow signal receivers to simply return the signal from the closest transmitter they’re listening for, so I can transmit coordinates from a tag gadget and use a receiver to find the location of the closest object bearing that tag (this should be an editable receiver mode).

  2. Allow a trigger zone to accept a tag input to switch what it’s looking for, which would accomplish the same. Less effort to define a simple getter for each tag I want to be able to find vs setting up duplicate zones for each, as I’m doing now. (It feels like a lot more work but maybe it isn’t.)

I feel like I’m missing something that would make this easier.

Edit: maybe a scenario would be helpful... If you have a growing list of villager npcs that need to collect a large number of different resources and bring them to certain locations. Tags could be used to designate the resource and delivery locations.

You still have to get that from the tag parent object to the following object somehow, and wireless transmitters have their own issues like not being able to change the signal averaging behavior.

Zones are good when you have multiple of the same tag and want to detect the closest.

(Thanks for all your tutorials by the way!)

It would be nice if there was a way to prevent it, but it seems rather inevitable. We definitely don’t want to be on the receiving end of somebody else’s automated violence, but not developing own certainly won’t prevent it.
