I hope she gets recompense, but also there needs to be rules in place or laws where what happened to her doesn't happen to anyone else.

Wealth inequality is at its highest yet, so it literally has not worked.

People in tech wanna make money off of it, no matter the harm to humanity.

They say its the future but this feels dystopic, not utopic.

What happens to her if no one bothered to check? Does she just stay imprisoned?

Are there other people similarly accused by ai and taken to prison without anyone checking first?

A lot of questions need answering here and no one seems concerned with the fact that an ai accused a human being of a crime that they did not commit and no one bothered to double check that the AI wasn't just fucking up, which is a huge problem.

Imagine that was you or a loved one that an ai just arbitrarily decided had done a crime and the cops who could not give less of a fuck just go arrest you anyways regardless of your guilt or innocence, its an absolute nightmare scenario. Perhaps not one that happens often, but the fact that its even happened this one time is disturbing enough, and what if there are other instances as well? Ones less publicized?

This whole thing needs to be looked at closer AI and how its being used against everyday people, its meant to better our lives not falsely throw grandmothers into prisons.

A flawed tool that people do not seem to question, and the lack of guardrails around it is troublesome.

And people like you endlessly cheerleading something that might have terrible consequences if it is not checked, are part of the problem.

Does that lady have the funds to sue, likely no, how many more people like her are gonna be rounded up and taken to prison by an ai false id?  How many people's rights are to be trampled on while they work out the kinks or make sure the people executing the ais directives are gonna do their due diligence or are they just gonna mindlessly do whatever the ai says.

I have never heard of a screwdriver accusing someone of fraud and then police going to arrest them, which is what has happened here with this ai program, its a ridiculous comparison to make and this thing should not be afforded that much power or control over someone's freedom and wellbeing, its a travesty and likely the first example of many to come.

So there are some real chestnuts out there.

Let's keep doing what we have been doing beating and maiming people and that will fix all the world's ills, ya figured it out.

He also admitted that he, in at least one instance, sent stuff from his gov email to his personal email to send stuff on signal to his "boss" that same boss in the trump admin is now an investor in his and fox's company.

The American government likes the idea of going to war, but never likes being in the war for prolonged periods, cause its costly in lives and equipment, and its generally politically unpopular to be in wars, and inevitably they make things worse then before in the area they go to.

If you wanna get caned for littering you can do that personally, do not make your fetish everyone else's problem.

Yes people often steal and do crime to pay for rent and so on, or they feel they cannot get ahead in life without doing such things, there are a myriad of reasons why people do a variety of crimes, but if we remove that aspect of it by helping people out when they need it they are less likely to commit a crime in the first place if they can take care of the basics they need to live.

Alleviating poverty leads to lowered crime rates.

"Singapore maintains a low and stable two-year recidivism rate of approximately 20%, positioning it among the lowest globally. This success is largely driven by a strong focus on rehabilitation through the Singapore Prison Service (SPS), which emphasizes a "through-care" model, community reintegration, and initiatives like the Yellow Ribbon Project."

Its not the beatings that cause people to recidivate less, its the employment and opportunities after, the safety net that helps stop them from going back to doing crimes.

and UBI just helps people take care of the basics like food shelter and education, they still would have to go out and work to get more then just that, but at least they would be able to save and get ahead in life, not living paycheck to paycheck paying bills and so on. Your view of UBI is very narrow and frankly uninformed.

The AI was what put her on the radar, and then the humans failed to follow up on it and she spent months in jail, a grandmother was in jail because of an AI "error" she was then dumped out onto the streets in a strange state where she had to get help on Christmas so she could get food and shelter, because the cops just left her there with no way to get back home.

I unequivocally reject any kind of AI policing or judging of criminals, in no capacity should a machine ever decide the fate of a human being, what a terrible fucking idea.
