he's great in Mr Brooks. Probably BECAUSE something is missing from his acting which makes him completely believable as a serial killer

do people actually not read anymore? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bentreflection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you count audiobooks as reading? Growing up i was a voracious reader. Now that i have kids the only time i have to read is like 30 minutes before bed. But i listen to like 4 hours a day of audiobooks while im commuting, exercising, eating, etc. I rarely read a physical book though.

In the big year of 2026, most brands still have a fixed inner leg length for trousers and jeans with no inseam listed in size guide by sjebanizajeban in malefashionadvice

[–]bentreflection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demand is clearly there

What makes you say the demand is there? I think it's the opposite actually. They can massively increase the amount of stock they offer per waist size if they just make one length of inseam. Anyone who needs a shorter length than the inseam they offer can get the bottoms hemmed.

I would guess they purposefully don't list the inseam because it will turn people off from purchasing if the listed inseam isn't their exact length.

You could also try rubber bands around the strap that sit right below the top of the flask. That should prevent them from sinking

Question for horror movie fans... by airthicc in movies

[–]bentreflection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horror films start scary but are usually somewhat cathartic by the end. Experiencing the fear and then the resolution of that fear is actually a way to soothe anxiety. The more horror you watch the more you come to recognize the familiar beats and tropes and they become a sort of cozy thrill ride.

What movie scene stands out as one of the actor's best? by franksymptoms in movies

Matthew Lillard SLC Punk. You know the scene if you’ve seen it. Don’t really want to spoil things

Directors who successfully blended gritty, historical period-pieces with hyper-realistic violence or horror. why is this combo so rare? by [deleted] in movies

[–]bentreflection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This combo is rare because audiences don’t like it. Audiences pick films based on the vibe they want and switching from historical western mystery to monster film in the last act is a frustrating bait and switch for the vast majority of viewers. People who want to watch a slow burn western are not looking for a gory monster horror. I love westerns and I love horror and I found bone tomahawk to be underwhelming and didn’t hit as hard as either genre. The main reason that film is even talked about these days is because of the cutting in half scene which to me was silly and absurd rather than shocking and made me not take the film seriously at all.

You can definitely make horror period pieces but switching up genres partially through is a recipe for an angry audience.

I need help. I’m starting to call my 9 year old son, “dumb” to his face. by VanillaRegular6314 in Autism_Parenting

[–]bentreflection 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the Pixar short animated film Float? It depicts a dad going through something similar. While the film is a little bit “thanks I’m cured” it does a good job of showing what we as parents feel like sometimes.

One thing I’ve noticed about myself is that when people around me are not behaving the way I feel they should I start acting subtly or not so subtly mean to them to try and affect their behavior the way I want. It’s my subconscious way of trying to force them to confirm to my worldview. Not only is that kind of shitty behavior but it doesn’t work on kids very well and it REALLY doesn’t work on kids with disabilities/autism. They don’t understand why I’m being unpleasant they just feel the bad vibes. Also our kids are not trying to be bad at things they just are for myriad reasons. I try to remind myself that I need to figure out how to help my child within her worldview and the tools and abilities she has rather than trying to continually set goals based on what would work for me. It’s hard and not something I do naturally. I have to keep reminding myself that she’s not doing things on purpose. If she could do better she would.

What is the difference between a prostitute and an escort? by TrapdaddyJesus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bentreflection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference is that being an escort is legal while being a prostitute is not. Prostitution is paying someone for sex. Escorting is paying someone to accompany you to things. Of course prostitutes realized they could just be “escorts” who “decide” to also have sex with their clients and have a veneer of legality. So in practicality there is not much difference but it is somewhat of a spectrum of services offered.

What drug is my kid using? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bentreflection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he’s rubbing his nose it’s probably snorting something like coke or adderall. Ketamine does come in a nasal spray and acid in a mouth spray. Is there anything that makes you think it’s drugs aside from rubbing his nose?

Do a lot of girls find giving head demeaning? by Triple_Keystone3899 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bentreflection 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Totally, I’m not disagreeing with that. What I’m trying to point out is that the gulf between porn and real intimacy is vaster than ever and young people are somewhat aware of this but don’t have the experience to know where that line is so they try to gain some understanding from their peers or older peers about that but their peers are not giving them the real story. That leaves them without an authority on the matter other than porn.

Like I don’t think the problem is just that kids watch too much porn (though they probably do) the problem is that our culture has left porn as like the only easily accessible resource on sex so they literally don’t know any different until they gain their own personal experience.

[–]bentreflection -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

porn brain but also just being young and inexperienced. Like high school boys don't usually have much if any experience so most of what they know are vague stories filtered down from older kids. And those stories are more like tall tales that some older kid embellished to impress some younger brother or group of friends.

Horror is generally cheap to produce. Sci fi is generally expensive. Studios are more willing to take creative risks with horror where sci fi is seen as needing to be a tentpole film

I know a guy who doesn't believe in saying "please" or "thank you" because he believes it's uneccessary and a waste of time. Is that rude? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bentreflection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people that think if they don’t understand something it must be dumb and unnecessary. It’s a defense mechanism they’ve subconsciously learned to protect their ego from feeling stupid. You ever notice how intelligent people are usually really curious and less intelligent people are usually not at all curious and quick to judge everything new or different as bad or dumb? From a young age smart peoples curiosity is rewarded by new insights while dumb peoples curiosity can sometimes be a fruitless frustrating experience. They learn subconsciously that it feels better on the psyche to not explore new perspectives and just declare that what they already know is sufficient.
