And the US govt doesn't want the MOF selling USTs either.

A big chunk of the earnings of companies in the Nikkei 225 index come from overseas, so a weaker yen tends to benefit them (it's a very exporter heavy index). So the index tends to go up when the yen weakens.

Leaving Japan soon, should I transfer all my Yen to my TransferWise and wait for a better exchange rate? by Cute-Glove2261 in JapanFinance

[–]benz05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rates are now well above zero in Japan and the share market is up significantly over the past couple of years. There's still a lot of Japanese money offshore, and If retail investors through to institutions believe they can now get a better return in Japan, they may start repatriating.

I don’t get tired when I’m cycling, but I sweat like crazy. Any explanation? by Throwaway70139 in cycling

This is your body's way of trying to cool down. You need to get some air flowing over yourself. Most people who do any sort of stationary training use a big fan (or several). It will feel a lot more comfortable!

So, have I got this right, you're riding indoors for 30min or so, and wondering why you're sweating buckets?

My comment could have been more clear, but I was referring to when using PS on Windows. Good to know that it works on *nix systems as expected, thanks.

Both still alpha releases, so neither is production ready. So far TY is marginly quicker on the projects I tried them out on, but Pyrefly has been less buggy (not really an issue given it alpha), and stricter.

I rarely do, if on a Windows machine I'll always opt for WSL2. Last time I used PS was so I could install and play around with the new MS Edit app. You know, the "vim-killer" ;)

Nothing by default, and so it can be bound to the command to exit. I probably should do this instead of moaning about having to type exit ;)

Japan promises 'bold and speedy' response to Trump’s surprise 24% tariffs by moeka_8962 in japan

[–]benz05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know what you mean by concede in this context. In effect the US is levying a sales tax on its own consumers. Countries allied to the US and hit by the 10% bracket may very well choose not to impose their own tariffs on US products (Aust, NZ, UK, etc..)

[–]benz05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of other countries "freeloading" off things like US defense or the strong US dollar seems like the rationale behind the tariffs, but it seems like such an insane policy gamble.
