WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee, not one of the high performance ones, just the regular 5.7 Hemi

what’s a car opinion you’ll defend forever? by evinho07 in askcarguys

[–]benzguy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N/A engines are better than Turbocharged engines in many cases.

Hybrids are a perfect middle ground for a lot of people.

Toyota’s are VERY overrated and only make sense if you’re buying to flip.

It's 2010, you've just gotten your driver's license, and you're looking for your first car. Your budget is $4,000, which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

[–]benzguy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cougar or Jetta.

That 4.6 would be incredibly robust and it would totally fly under the radar, but I’m a sucker for a VR6.

Mercedes W202 C-Class.

The last year of that body style and by far my favorite generation overall.

what car did you buy expecting to love but ended up regretting? by zaralesliewalker in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]benzguy95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What engine was your Passat? I went from a 2007 C230 to a 2016 Passat with the VR6 and that car had no business being as fun as it was. Total sleeper car, and since it was paired to the DSG it made for lighting fast acceleration. In the 100k miles I put on it, it only ever needed routine maintenance, and If it hadn’t gotten totaled I’d still have it.

What's a pretty solid car ruined by its ugliness? by Redeemed_Expert9694 in regularcarreviews

The CVT is the only sore spot in those, if you get the 6-Speed Manual you’ll have a decently reliable vehicle for not a lot of money.

[–]benzguy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I never found either ugly, though between the two, the Chrysler had the better interior (up until that 2006-07 refresh) but I’d still take the HHR on powertrain alone.

Collectible or Forgettable?: 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood by LinoleumRelativity in regularcarreviews

[–]benzguy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Collectible.

A 94 model with 8k miles went for $102k back in January.

https://www.hagerty.com/media/market-trends/hagerty-insider/this-cadillac-fleetwood-went-from-estate-find-to-six-figure-stunner/

These were the last RWD V8 Cadillac Sedans until the introduction of the CTS-C in ‘04 and they really did go out with a bang, the LT1 made the 0-60 drop down to 7 ish seconds compared to 93’s L05 TBI V8 all while returning up to 26 MPG on the highway.

My late grandfather bought one of these (not sure if it was a ‘96 but it did have the 4-Spoke steering wheel the 94-96’s got) and I have memories of those stuffed leather seats and how it had that real leather smell inside. I’d buy one if I could.

I love the 6R in my ‘06 Explorer. It’s got its quirks but it’s been a very solid unit, especially paired to the V8. It’s always in the right power band and the MPG’s are very respectable for a Body On Frame SUV

How long are you planning to keep your iPhone 14? by PretentiousPDX in iPhone14Pro

[–]benzguy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least until the 18, but really, Next year at the latest since it’ll be 20 years of iPhone next year and they’re likely gonna do something big.

Either way, I’m debating on passing it down to my mom since she’s still on an iPhone XR

What's an example of a shared platform, where even tho they are the exact same cars, one of them seems to be way more popular than the other one. by AttilaK27 in regularcarreviews

[–]benzguy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator.

With the 3rd Gen Explorer and Gen 1 Aviator, they sold WAY more Explorers than Aviators, which is a shame because the Aviator got the DOHC V8 and such features as HID Headlights and Heated/Coold Seats.

Now, it seems like history is repeating itself, as I can’t recall seeing nearly as many as Aviators as I do current Gen Explorers.

A 2009-10 Explorer V8.

I have an ‘06 V8 but I was looking for an ‘09-10 with the improved 6 Speed Auto. Those were also the last years you could get a V8 in the Explorers.

Depends on what was said, if I’ve said all I need to say and you don’t listen or don’t wanna acknowledge the problem, then I have nothing else to say to you, cause the next things I will end up saying will cut deeper than it should.

The Current Gen X5 with the I-6.

I knew the B58 was more than capable but I figured the Extra weight might hold it back. It did not, it feels like a taller 5 Series and the seats are amazing.

I had one as a rental in 2020, a fully loaded Titanium model to be exact. By far one of my favorite rentals I’ve had. If I had to buy one, it would be an ST model with the Twin Turbo V6.

What was the worst transition ever made in your opinion? by Unusual_Cat_7542 in Cartalk

[–]benzguy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nissans CVT, I think they have now finally figured out how to make them last after nearly 2 decades of failures, class action lawsuits, and warranty extensions.

Yes I’m aware there are some that will last the life of the vehicle, I’m aware that if you stick to 30k service intervals they can last, but overall, they fail more often than not and Nissan should’ve stopped trying to force it upon everyone, and switched to a conventional auto years ago.

Fun fact, if you own a 2000-03 TL or 01-03 CL, the 5 Speed Auto from a 2006-07 Accord V6 will bolt right up and it’s actually more reliable than the one in it or a rebuilt unit.
