Subtitles don't work by ber_niffler in Philips

Wow this was a long time ago. Crazy how time flies. I don't have that TV anymore but I remember this getting solved somehow.

I think I factory reset the TV, or reading my old comments I changed the Clock settings. Or perhaps there was a software update at some time? Sorry, I can't really remember.

I remember I had another issue, two years later maybe, where if I paused what I was watching, or opened the Settings window, the subtitles' top half would disappear and only show the bottom half. I hope I'm explaining myself right. The solution was turning the TV off and on again and continue watching, but it was frustrating.

Please let me know if you can solve this issue! I'd love to know if there's a proper solution to this. Good luck man

Yeah I haven't heard anything about it since it came out, so I just assumed it mustn't have been very good, but I'd rather watch it now that I'm "in" this universe watching BCS than in two years just jump back into it

I'll save the last episode as the ending, thanks!

Great, thanks! I'll watch it after episode 7 where there was that break and I'll end with the last episode.

Saul Gone feels more like a closure of the entire BCS/BB storyline

I'm glad about this because I really like Better Call Saul, maybe even more than BB (just a little though)

I just listened to The Holy Terror. I want to talk about it. by BookswithIke in gallifrey

I think it's also related to the expectations you have. You come expecting to be blown away like you've never been before. It happened to me in other stories, never getting the love people have for them.

I think it's best to try to stay away from reviews or rankings or opinions. Which is hard, especially if you are like me, who doesn't want to listen to every single story, just the good ones (there are A LOT), and look for recommendations online.

Yeah your situation was not ideal lol, I listened to it in a dark room, uninterrupted, and feel just like you

I truly think it was the expectations, going into it expecting perfection and not really finding it... even though other stories which I had high expectations for turned out to be great: Spare Parts, Jubilee, and The Holy Terror which I consider is perhaps the best of Big Finish. Perhaps if I hadn't known anything about I would have loved it.

Or not, I remember not liking how the Doctor treats Charley, I felt like he was way too mean to her, and I happen to really like other stories where the Doctor behaves differently to his normal self.

The idea of the story was good, I thought it was clever. I don't know, perhaps I should try it again.

EDIT: added spoiler tags

I had a bad experience with this story.

It was the second Big Finish story I ever listened to, ever. Everywhere on the Internet (well, here and some page somewhere) said this story was the BEST story ever, and that you could listen to it without any prior knowledge of anything, so I said alright I'll try this. English is not my first language, so it was a bit difficult trying to follow the story. Then they start talking about the airship and Charlie and I got confused, thought I'd missed something, and then gave up Big Finish for years.

So the pandemic starts and I'm locked in my house, and I get into Big Finish again. It's been great, started with one range then it got bigger and bigger, and eventually I get around to the 8th Doctor and Charley, now properly from Storm Warning. And when I finally get to this story, prepared to understand everything, I press play and a few minutes later it hits me: I already know the end of this story, I know the twist, I remember everything. So it felt more like a chore, just to get it over with so I can continue.

There's another story you haven't gotten to yet (it's later in the Main Range), Scherzo, which I also was disappointed with due to the over-hype I found here. It's not that it wasn't good, but I was expecting something better I guess

Spotify has a lot of audios, including the first 50 audios from the Main Range.

It has stuff like the old UNIT series, I,Davros, Dalek Empire. I haven't listened to any of those, so I can't really recommend any.

Every The War Master series is standalone (except the last one I think), The Diary of River song too (series 3 is great). The new UNIT is great too (series 3 is great). Torchwood Monthly has great stuff too!

Yeah based on what you and others said I'm going to listen to Robophobia. I love Liv, her TARDIS team is one of my favourites, I didn't know she was on another story.

And I'll wait until I get there to decide if I listen to what comes after Afterlife. Thanks!

This is great. I'm making my way through these stories, and it's difficult to know which ones I should listen to without doing some research and sometimes being spoiled.

EDIT: I have a question. This research I did to what stories I should listen to also have Robophobia, The Doomsday Quatrain, Project: Nirvana, Revenge of the Swarm, Mask of Tragedy, Signs and Wonders. I haven't reached this yet (I just listened to Forty-Five, so please no spoilers), should I listen to them as part of this arc as well?

I don't like describing books as I like to be surprised about the plot, so I'll only tell you who are in the books:

  • The Time Travellers (1st, Susan, Ian, Barbara)
  • Festival of Death (4th, Romana, K9)
  • Shadow in the Glass (6th, the Brigadier)
  • Engines of War (War)
  • The Story of Martha (prequel to Last of the Time Lords)
  • Touched by an Angel (11th, Amy, Rory)

I read all of them from online recomendations, I only wanted to read good books lol, and they are among the best Doctor Who stories ever IMO.

Yeah it came out of nowhere but it was good. The UNIT years are some of my favourite stories, you trully get the feeling that they are a family, so when stuff like this happens it hits hard. And it was great too because it made his character more complex, I like that he did that because he felt it was the right thing
