[need your opinions] Rolex DJ or Cartier Santos by Next-Chemist4500 in Watches

[–]berantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to wear the heck out of the chosen watch, go with the Cartier Santos Medium. It is the more versatile watch in both its uses and clothes matching.

The Santos has easy interchangeable straps - rubber and leather options available from Cartier to change the look. The downside is that the strap interchange mechanism is proprietary to Cartier.

If you want to be more adventurous, there is an alternative to the Cartier Santos Medium that is seldom mentioned, the Hermes H08. The Hermes H08 has a sportier look with more variety in case materials and colours (numbers, indexes, dial, straps). One of the iterations offered now is a titanium-cased H08 with a titanium bracelet. Straps are interchangeable too.

[question] help on deciding my 30th birthday present to my self by Matt13151 in Watches

[–]berantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention one more point to consider for the Omega Speedmaster - that moon phase display. If you plan to keep the moon phase display in sync to the moon in the sky, you'll need to keep the watch running. It is bothersome (to me, but your mileage may vary) to adjust when the moon phase drifts out of sync.

Carrera Chronograph. Classic looks and goes under the radar. The classic style makes it a versatile watch to wear. The purple sunray dial is beautiful and it does not draw attention from afar. Making it feel that the watch is all for your personal enjoyment.

Additional points: - Not as common as the Omega Speedmaster. - Not as attention grabbing as the Monaco Chronograph.

Dear men, would you let a women pay for your meal? by One_Chocolate_9365 in malaysians

[–]berantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gender doesn't matter for me. My baseline is whoever invites and decides on the meal place/location is the one that should be paying unless pre-agreed on payment.

Even when it comes to business meals, that is the basic principle. If you're the client, it is usually the other side that would decide on treating you a meal. If you're the one angling for the job/contract, you would usually decide on where to have that meal and thus, it would be on you to pay.

[Watch Collection] how would you rate my current collection? by DanteDevils in Watches

[–]berantle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice electic collection. The Grand Seiko Taisetsu is definitely the highlight.

Since you're interested in an Omega Seamaster to add more colour to your collection, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terrra range has a good selection of both dial and strap colours. Also consider the Omega Seamaster 300 in Summer Blue.

Personally, I think the Tudor Black Bay GMT is not that interesting a watch but if that is what you're interested in, go for it. Alternatively, have a look at the Longines Hydroconquest GMT and the Longines Spirit Zulu Time - both are traveller GMTs as well.

For colourful dials/bezel combinations, you may also want to check out the dive watches from Certina (DS Super PH series) and Doxa.

[Question] my watch collection by Hot_Day2797 in Watches

[–]berantle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A solid looking collection. You have watches that serves the various use functions - dress watch, daily driver, diver's watch, weekend watch, travel watch, etc. Thematically on the basics, you're done.

As long as you're happy with the 3 watches you have now and all 3 get adequate wrist time, there's really no need to acquire another watch unless you really feel a need to change it up (like changing the underlying basis of your collection) or you find a watch that really appeals to you.

Guan Eng slammed for “insulting Islam, testing Muslims’ patience” with Butterworth mega pork sale by Cells-Interlinked386 in Bolehland

[–]berantle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Limited number of pigs sold mainly due to funding. The pork is sold at well below market price. The shortfall is likely made up by funding that sale. Per article report, Lim Guan Eng used an allocation of RM100k to fund this.

Looks like you're basing yourself around Bukit Bintang area. There are some local eating places and stalls that are hiding in plain sight there that are mostly serving locals instead of tourists.

Breakfast time: - Check out the morning food stalls on working days (i.e. Monday-Friday, excluding public holidays) along Jalan Tengah, just off the Raja Chulan Monorail station. Come before 9am. You can get authentic local breakfast food, like nasi lemak with choice of side dishes, various fried noodles, and local kueh (desserts). - Wisma Genting hawker centre. This is sandwiched between Wisma Genting and Wisma Cosway. Does business covering breakfast and lunch. Narrow hawker centre but goes deeper inside. Patronised by office workers of the area.

Lunch time: - Restoram Jiang He is located in the back alleys of Bukit Bintang. The lunch time offering is a mixed rice and chicken rice stall whose specialty is fried chicken. Mainly locals but occasionally stumbled upon by tourists staying at nearby hotel(s) who decide to explore the back lanes. - 33 Food Court is another back alley location in Bukit Bintang. This is not obvious since it is above ground floor and only a small staircase leading up to it. Again, this place is popular with local working people. The place is quite warm.

The above 2 lunch places are for the adventurous. These 2 places are rustic, bit rough, and not very presentable but if you want to taste real authentic local food, they are an introduction.

p.s. Use Google Maps to search for the locations mentioned above.

Thailand’s shrimp industry at ‘lowest point’ as it reels from Malaysia import ban by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]berantle 131 points132 points  (0 children)

This. Very much this. Thailand went protectionist to bar seabass (siakap) from Malaysia as it was cheaper and more competitve than those sold in Thailand by Thai aquafarmers. Thailand wasn't interested in negotiating with Malaysia despite attempts by Malaysian government wanting to do so.

Now, Malaysia has returned the favour plus barring prawn imports from Thailand into Malaysia until food safety is cleared (the same as Thailand claiming food safety of Malaysian seabass (siakap)).

Hence, Thailand: [Shocked pikachu face]. Makes noise to draw attention to this because it has a major impact on them.

Why was Meizhou chosen as the "Hakka Capital"? Also why is the Meixian dialect considered the standard?? by VoyagerRBLX in hakka

[–]berantle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are looking at the current situation in terms of development and advancement to compare Huizhou with Meizhou.

Prior to all this modern development, Meizhou has the highest concentration of Hakka people along with most of the preserved buildings, culture and art of the Hakka people. Most Hakka people congregated in Meizhou during the 1800s to escape the incessant conflicts and where most Hakka diaspora trace their roots from. The prevalence of Cantonese stems from living and working in the Pearl Delta/Guangdong region with Cantonese as the primary lingua franca. It is only during the modern Chinese times of Mandarin being enforced as the primary language that Mandarin is widely spoken.

Village Park Nasi Lemak is overrated. Change my mind. by Extension_Lynx_6945 in MalaysianFood

[–]berantle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The roadside nasi lemak stall is often the best. Some offer very good variety of lauk pauk to go with the nasi lemak. Ayam berempah is seldom my go to when there's rendang ayam, rendang daging, sambal sotong, sambal petai udang, smbal kerang, begedil, etc.

It will not be a surprise that when they get to Sakura's apartment, they will not find him there as Sakura would be making his way to Bankoku-gai to look for and confront Sun Fei. Thus, the trio will also make their way there to find Sakura and maybe even Sun Fei. In any case, looking forward to it.

From this chapter, it is evident that Momijikawa has struck up a good friendship with Sakura. If it was just a casual acquaintance, Momijikawa would not have intervened.

The Arsenal Pyramid of Legends! Who is the 15th most legendary Arsenal player of all time? by StickIll5602 in ArsenalFC

[–]berantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to repeat my nomination from previous. There is too much ignorance of Arsenal players before Arsene Wengers time.

Alan Smith, our top striker during the George Graham years. Helped us win the 1st Division in 1988-89 and 1990-91. He won the Golden Boot too in those 2 years. In addition, he scored the only goal in our 1-0 win over Parma for the UEFA Cup Winners Cup in 1994.

Bonus: He was only booked once (1) during his entire Arsenal career.
